"Tracey likes to say.../things/." He didn't specify these nameless things, simply looked irritable at the memory. "I end up having to just tell him to shut the hell up on a regular basis. He never says anything /useful/. Just tells me I have problems." He rolled his eyes. "Would be nice if he gave helpful tips now and then, rather than trying to make me doubt myself."

He did listen to what Jordan had to say intently though. After the dinner he found himself actually wanting to know what it was that got people so irritated about the things he said. Though he was impressed at the logic that women technically should be strong aswell if they were capable of looking after men. Hmph. If he argued that he undermined the value of manliness. "Fair point. And maybe. But the world would work a bit better if people didn't keep trying to shake off what'd be best for them. My life would have been a lot ******** harder if I hadn't just went the path of least resistance towards being a proper man's man. So I don't have much sympathy for people who take the hard route and complain when they get hassle."

Oh for ******** sake, Tracey was still awake, fantastic. He told the angel to go to sleep or shut the hell up.

He looked almost huffy at his other point about /why/ people got angry at him. "Maybe. But.." he trailed off. "I have no idea why they'd want to do things differently. Not that its much of an issue anyway, I don't ******** care what people do anymore. I'm keeping my mouth shut, let the guys act like homos and the women act like guys, nothing to do with me as long as they keep it away from me."

"Questioning everything is a good way to learn new things," Jordan said, and sipped his coffee, thinking over what Rep had said. "Tracey chose you. He must have had a reason for it. You could ask him what he found in you that he wanted to be your partner."

"Who determines what's best for people?" he asked. "And why is it a bad thing to have challenges? If you'd taken the path of least resistance all the way, you wouldn't be here. You must want to stand up to it and fight it in some way. That's not the easy path." The debate was giving him a bit more insight into Rep's thoughts, the structure of the other man's unexamined assumptions. It explained a fair amount about why the guy behaved the way he did.

The corner of his mouth curled up in a smile that threatened to become a smirk. "So what exactly defines men acting like homos? Or women acting like guys?"

"I think his reasoning for it was that he needed a hopeless case to torment." he smirked. "Maybe I'll ask him sometime, but getting a straight answer out of him is impossible."

He shrugged. "Other people determine what's best for people. You ******** up, other people, at least where I came from would make ******** sure you knew it and then some. Way easier to be the one doing the enforcing s**t than being enforced on if you get my drift." Bully them before they bullied you had got him this far. "And eh. Maybe. I was just drifting along wasting my time, draining my life away, shmoozing at clubs and whatever. Boring friends, even more boring women. It wasn't fun, felt like dying. This, however short my stay here might be, is way more ******** fun, I'm glad I got off that spiral."

He took a sip of his coffee and raised a brow at Jordan. "You don't know? Pft. Women acting like guys are like some of the ones here, fighting and being bossy and dominant and trying to push around men. Wanting to wear the trousers. Bet they even top." he snorted "And for guys, the other way around, submissive, afraid to fight proper, obsessed with appearance like a woman, sensitive, all s**t that's a sure sign of a homo." He was clearly thinking about what he was saying, seeming to be listing off traits from his fingers. "Though I've never met an actual homo of /either/ gender other than the ******** angel in my head. My mates were all normal and like, actually acted like /guys/."

PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2012 3:18 pm

"Other people? That seems pretty vague," Jordan said. "And there is a difference between what other people think you should do and what's best for you. I'm sure you've figured that one out." He leaned his elbows on the table. "You knew you were wasting your life, so you chose to do something else. Sounds like a good decision to me, and nobody told you that that was what you were supposed to do, or that that was what was best for you. You thought about what you wanted to do and did it."

"You seem to have some pretty stereotypical views on what men and women are like," he observed. "Not everybody is the same." That was going to be an uphill battle. "And how do you know you've never met a homo? Seeing as how you have a pretty low opinion of them, maybe they just never told you."

"Yeah there's a difference, but its easier to just go with the flow. Or was. Maybe not so much now that I'm trying to get away from things. Still. I'm a lazy b*****d. I like the easy route most of the time." he smirked

"And stereotypical maybe, but most of the people I've met followed those stereotypes. The guys I knew were guys, lads, hard drinking, hard fighting and s**t. The women were mostly little tarts only out for someone to buy them a drink and take them home or whatever. Not everyone is the same but no one was as /different/ as they are here. It was a big shock to the ******** system." he shrugged "Well I've never been hit on, and what guy'd pass up on this? Even if it landed him in hospital, so nope, I've never met any. I mean I've met a few guys who maybe were, and one of my mates used to order cocktails, that was pretty ******** gay. But never been sure or anything. Probably met a few women too, would explain why they weren't interested." His tone was somewhere between jokey and serious, as if he knew the silliness of what he was saying but that it was probably some sort of mask for his ignorance.

"I mean I think I'd like /know/ if I did."

PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2012 3:46 pm

"It's something to think about, anyway. Everyone here is here because they were offered a choice and they decided that that was the best choice for themselves. Nobody was forced into coming here. We are what we are by our own free will." That could be extrapolated into other situations as well, but Jordan left that point unspoken. Rep would figure it out on his own, or not.

"People who are similar tend to hang out together," he pointed out. "So you've seen the same kinds of people all your life. As you just said, people are different here." He took a mouthful of coffee and continued, "I lived in a college town near the coast, so all sorts of people passed through. I guess I'm a little more used to people with a wide range of differences."

He managed not to outright laugh, but he couldn't contain a smirk. "I'd say the attitude might be a turnoff."

Rep nodded. "Yeah, it was a tough choice and I still don't have a clue if it was the /right/ one since I can't seem to win a ******** fight since I got here, I might have been /better/ staying at the clubs. But still, a choice is a choice, and I can deal with it I guess." He was determined to at least give succeeding here a damn good shot, so sure, he'd live with choices. He'd have to. Or end up ******** dead anyway.

"Yeah maybe, I mean gays and s**t would go to like those clubs they have." Which in Rep's mind were some nightmare land of sugar and sparkles and glitter and men in dresses. "Probably why I didn't see any. And yeah, I guess that's true. I mean you saw people who were different where I lived? You ******** mugged them for money or whatever." he waved a hand vaguely before blinking.

He gave Jordan a "are-you-serious" look for his comment about his attitude. "My attitude a turn off? Pfft. /Anyone/ would be all over me if they were that way inclined. I just turnoff crazy women cause they feel threatened by my masculinity and s**t. But seriously, homos like muscles and stuff, I doubt they'd say no to /this/. Besides, women fall for assholes all the time, don't see why homos would be any different."

PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2012 4:34 pm

Jordan shrugged. "At least here you don't have to pretend to ignore the things most people can't see. If nothing else, that's a plus. Also, being paid to hit things. And set them on fire." He looked far too pleased with that thought for a few moments. He might not have been a particularly destructive person in his previous life, but there was a certain amount of satisfaction in blunt-force problem solving.

He did laugh at the last statement this time. "Man, you talk like women and gay people are a different species or something. I know for a fact you've talked to a gay guy since you got here, man. Possibly also a lesbian, but I don't know that one for sure."

"Yeah, being here is amazing for me. I mean like ignoring the trouble with /people/. God the /fights/. I love fighting, I love breaking s**t apart. I mean even that Yeti!" he got rather animated even at the subject. "And yeah. Not thinking I'm going crazy cause of the drugs is good too, that I wasn't just seeing it in my /head/." He blinked though.

"What?! Seriously?" He utterly wracked his brains for who the hell it could have been, trying to think of anyone who fit his mental idea of what they should be like. "Holy ******** man, I mean. I'd say Jerry right? I mean I /knew/ he was a homo. But..then there's all that s**t with Candace that's going on I don't even know." he rubbed his chin. Maybe that was the source of their problems? "******** I don't even know with the women, they all are totally out of my normal type here, could be any of them."

He shivered. "Man that's creepy. If it was Jerry or whatever. Like." He'd been totally bollock naked in that shower room. He looked outraged. "Gay people aren't /allowed/ to be subtle man, that's not ******** fair at all. That's like ninja style."

PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2012 6:05 pm

Jordan grinned. "Would you believe I'd been in all of one fight my whole life before I got here? Feels natural, though." He absently stroked the band of Ferros's ring with his thumb; the dragon whuffed drowsily at him and subsided once more. "Someone's getting some sleep, anyway," he remarked, looking down at the ring with a wry smile. "Brat."

The expression on Rep's face made him laugh. "No, Jerry's straight," he corrected. "If socially awkward. He was with Candace." He left the rest of that particular past tense out; Rep didn't need to know. "I got details I could have done without hearing, dude." He shook his head, then hid his smirk behind his coffee cup. This was actually pretty hilarious.

Rep looked impressed. "Yeaaah, I'd say that you were a born fighter if that was the case, just grew up in the wrong place. Because I felt like I couldn't even land a hit on you. You fight like a fiend. I've fought a lot, but never like here and usually with more numbers or weapons on my side than the other guy. I /wish/ Tracey would go to sleep. I think he's a light sleeper."

Rep looked relieved at least at the news Jerry was straight. "Phew. That's what I thought, I didn't know for sure though, and he's the most suspicious." he did grit his teeth and look somewhat perturbed at his second comment. "Do I even want to /know/ what sort of details that is?" he rubbed his temples "No ******** kidding he's socially awkward. One minute he's quiet and next minute he's trying to break my nose." He interrupted his train of thought though. "But that means its someone /else/? ********. Then they must be super stealthy because.. I can't think of anyone who'd fit the bill. That guy who stole my seat?"

PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2012 6:52 pm

"Well, I've had almost a year to improve," Jordan said. "And Ferros helped. I hear it's harder if your weapon's not cooperating." Robert was probably an example of that particular situation. "You'll be learning runic weaponry as well at some point," he added as an aside. "If Tracey's possessive, you might need to talk that over with him."

"I don't particularly want to know about my friends' sex lives, is all, beyond knowing they've got someone." He shrugged. "Jerry's a good guy. Weird sometimes, and right now he's got problems he's dealing with, but he's a good friend."

He snickered quietly at Rep's attempt at guessing who the ninja homo could possibly be. "Probably not. Don't think Leon swings that way, but you never know." He briefly debated drawing it out further, letting Rep flail around and guess, but the guy would probably start getting pissed at having information withheld before too long, and that'd undo whatever good the conversation had done. "No, dude, you're talking to him."

Runic weaponry. That sounded pretty interesting. He made note to look into it whenever he got a chance, keen on even more weapons, anything that gave him an advantage. "Nah, I'm the boss, he doesn't get a say in what I do."

"And yeaah. Sharing that kind of s**t can just cause more drama. Last time I got involved in a friend's relationships and s**t got me this." he gestured at his nose.

And then he froze as what Jordan just said sunk in. It took a bit. Rep's mental reaction to things he didn't like the sound of was typically flat out denial. It took quite a bit for the information to filter down through the layers of NO YOU ARE SHITTING ME and possibly misunderstandings on his part to finally realise what he was dealing with. To say he looked shocked was an understatement, he just stared for a few long moments trying to figure out how the ******** his world veiw even wrapped around this information. He /liked/ Jordan. Or he..had? He couldn't /now/ could he? ********. This was complicated. He had to be kidding, it was a joke right? Haha just kidding of course I'm not gay, got you with that one. Oh and ******** hell he'd spent like ten minutes getting the other guy to get changed out of his clothes last mission.

Rep didn't blush often. He did /right now/ though. Giving Jordan what he hoped was a jokey smirk but which looked one hundred percent terror instead.

"You are kidding right?"
PostPosted: Sun Mar 04, 2012 7:19 pm

"The chain I used on the yeti is an example," Jordan explained. "Ferros gets grumpy if I use anything other than him, but some situations just require a different tool."

He couldn't help smirking at the absolutely stunned look on Rep's face - every bit as satisfying as anticipated - but when Rep asked the same thing Robert had, he shook his head, sobering. "Not kidding," he said, and caught Rep's eye, giving him a steady, even look. "It's not something you can tell by looking. Or behavior. Has nothing to do with anything other than who I end up dating, and that means jack s**t to you, as you're straight and I'm not interested. Doesn't change a thing." He smiled again. "Seriously, dude. Talking weapons, fighting for your life against horrible monsters, magic portals to anywhere on Earth and some places that aren't, and you're freaked out by the gay guy?"

Rep just stared. He didn't /want/ to stare but there wasn't much else he could do, his brain was in quiet freefall. This wasn't fair. How could someone be manly /and/ gay? There had to be /rules/. If there wasn't rules then what the hell was there? And why the ******** was he so embarassed? It wasn't him who should be the embarassed one here, he was totally in control.

<*siiiiigh*> He could practically hear the angel rolling his eyes and mentally warned him to keep his comments to himself.

"I.." he was still at a complete loss for words. "But how can you.. I mean. You can fight and everything. You. You." he covered his face with a hand, trying to line up thoughts in a way that made sense. Oh and good god, he'd been sitting here talking about how no man would be able to resist him and all sorts like a complete a**, it threw a lot of the comments into slightly more biting perspective. He felt played but mostly by his own stupidity.

"Yeah well. Monsters and s**t, that's all unreal. That's all "island" stuff. Gays and s**t, that's all stuff from back home too. That's all stuff that I was sure was one way. I thought I could TELL."

Even more angering to him though, for some utterly bizzare reason, was the kick to his pride from that "I'm not interested", the fact he felt stung at all by it made him more angry than he'd thought. It was because he had to win everything, he explained away to himself. What the s**t was wrong with him? He was awesome.

he put down the mug on the table before he broke the handle off in fury at Tracey /still/ talking when he was already told to shut up. "Monsters are easy, you can tell a monster by /looking/ at it. It doesn't /hide/ it to get a laugh at your expense."
