Too bad Cosine's amusement was more or less lost on the Spirit Guide. Nope, no funny here. None at all.

This was just.... ugh. How did the mortals do this ?!?

"Thank you." He did manage to say, as he moved to follow. Really, the sooner they were done with this, the better he'd be.

The girl took them to the steps of the temple and paused.
"You should remove your shoes." She nodded to their feet.

Cosine slipped her slippers off and stepped up onto the wooden steps. She liked the feel of the smooth wood on her bare feet. She could feel the tension in Ankou and decided it would be best not to say anything.

The girl waited for them and then continued up and into the temple. They were in a hall of carved wood, faded painting depicted crows and geometric mandala like designs. Cosine raised an eyebrow and glanced around. She took a deep breath. Now she was finding it hard to keep her shifted form.

"I will go and find him." The girl wandered off, leaving them alone.

Cosine glanced to Ankou.
"soon." she promised, clenching her fists a little. "I'm not sure how long I can keep this form up."

Really, he had expected it this time - and bent to unlace his boot before the woman even had time to speak. He wasn't sure what the custom was about, but... oh well.

Even with the headstart, it took him more time than it took Cosine - what had it been with Adrian and those lace-up combat boots, anyway - and then he moved back in step with her, reaching for her hand instinctively with her sharp intake of breath.

Then the woman left, and... Oh. Oh crap. He hadn't even thought about that, to be honest. He never stayed in one form too long, only when he crossed inhabited areas and did not want to be noticed. Through.. he felt fine. Maybe it was the stress... Or being in a place that was so undeniably hers.

"I'll make up a diversion if you need." What kind of diversion ? Well... He'd think about it if the time came. If he just pulled their soul free, they should be confused enough so that he and Cosine could make their escape.

Through, really, it wouldn't be such a good step toward reclaiming the temple... "Focus." He said, softly. squeezing her hand. "Let me do the talking if you need."

Funny how their role seemed to have switched so suddenly.

Cosine nodded and closed her eyes for a moment. She took comfort from his hand it hers, it was cool and relaxing. Slowly she felt herself centre, she imagined it might be a little what he felt when they were in the town watching the man speak. This temple was hers, not some imposter's.

After a few moments the young woman emerged with the old man walking behind her. He eyed them somewhat suspiciously, in his hand he carried Gungnir. As he approached Cosine really hoped that they would both be able to pull this little escapade off.

Pythagoras looked the couple over as he approached, there was something about them that he could not put his finger on ... they seemed familiar to him, yet he was sure he had not seen them before. He would remember such an interesting looking pair.
"Welcome." He smiled in what he imagined to be a warm manner, though his eyes did not show it. He was always mildly paranoid, there were those from the village who did not like him and he had heard tales of the gods renewed.
"What brings you to my halls?"

He felt Cosine calm down and nodded to himself. Good, good. They'd come way too far now to just fail like this, and so far the plan had been perfectly viable, even through he would have probably been more satisfied barging in and taking back what was their.

But he could see that his personal feelings were not the best way to do this, not if Cosine wanted to win these people for herself.

He looked up when the two of then returned, and Ankou's fingers tightened a bit in Cosine's hand in reflex. Of course he would carry the spear with him... He had expected that.

Even now the sight of it nagged at his mind, wanted to bring images of times long gone in the forefront. It was tempting to just give in, to just let it all play out, to learn, to see...

But he did the hardest thing he could do, right now. He shoved that temptation away and ignored Gungnir's silent call the best he could.

"Lord." He said, adverting his gaze - easily mistook for respect, but it was both to hide the unnaturalness of his eyes and... well, not look at Gungnir, really. It did help, to not see it. "We were among the crowd when you went to the village, yesterday, and we would like to seek your wisdom. I know little of numbers, but I am willing to learn."

This was still making him uncomfortable, a fact which Cosine would easily see, as she knew him so well, but might go unnoticed from the two facing them. But that did not matter.

They had to get this done.

Pythagoras watched the pair of them. They seemed innocent enough, but there was something there ... He would welcome them though, keep an eye on them most definitely.
"You are willing to swear yourselves to the true religion of Number." He asked. "We live here in harmony, we share resources and knowledge, posessions."

Cosine tightened her hand in Ankou's once more.
"We have no posessions, sir. Though we are willing to swear alliegence to you and the true religion." Again, it was hard not to be amused. Number swearing belief to Number.

Pythagoras nodded.
"Very well, Laila here will show you to the living quarters. We eat at sundown and we pray shortly after. Tomorrow you will be given the chance to prove yourselves and your dedicaition."

Ankou's fingers gave a gentle squeeze on her own's, a gesture meant to be reassuring. It seemed to be working... Working very well, in fact.

"We appreciate the chance to rest, my lord. We have traveled far and long, years, in fact. It is good to know our journey is finally over."

Ha. As if.

Cosine was rather impressed with Ankou's reply it actually sounded as if he meant it. She gave the man who claimed to be god a once over and turned to follow the spaced out girl.

Soon, very soon he would not be smiling so smugly. she was very sure of that.
