At Luke's offer, Emil's eyes immediately lit up. "You could teach me?" he asked sounding amazed, even if a bit unsure of himself. "Do... do you think I have what it takes?" Could he really become a Pokemon trainer? Or good with the sword like Luke? Could he actually stand up for himself? Not even Emil liked being the way he was, but he couldn't really help it. Maybe.. just maybe... he could actually protect himself and his Pokemon?
Even if the idea of fighting was scary.

"I mean, probably," Luke replied, redirecting his gaze. He'd never really tried to teach someone something before, but that didn't mean he couldn't do it, right? He'd always listened attentively to Van's guidance, so that had to count for something. And he basically knew what he was doing, right? Sure. He could teach, no problem.
The second question was sort of surprising, and Luke responded with a slight shrug, "Really, the only thing it takes is determination. Hardest part's probably the first step. After that, it's all about not stopping." He smirked with a sort of bitter humor, "And if that whole business with the Sharpedo is any indication, you're sure stubborn enough."

Emil nodded at this and frowned, trying to muster up a determined expression... and failing miserably. He just looks silly really. "I-I'll try my best... I guess." His face then melts in an awkward and embarrassed smile at the remembrance of the Sharpedo incident.
Luke just made it sound so easy, and Emil did want to be stronger.. less timid and afraid. He wanted to improve himself. This seemed like the perfect opportunity, if he could actually pull it off.

The attempt at a determined expression drew a short breath of a laugh. Well, it wasn't as though one needed to be good at acting decisive in order to actually be decisive when it mattered. Luke almost reproached the hesitant response but decided against it; making the choice to be bolder did not make one bolder automatically. Ideally, Emil would gain that confidence naturally as he became more sure of his skills. Ideally.
"Well," Luke said, as if to clear the conversational table of all that heavy 'protecting yourself and others' talk, "are you just planning to become a better trainer, or do you wanna give a shot at learning the sword?" He drew the weapon in display, holding the hilt and resting the flat blade against his opposite palm. "It's not like you have to use it to hurt people or anything. Just the process of learning to wield one can help improve stuff like speed and strength, even if you never face an opponent."

Now he had a decision to make, and Emil caught himself staring at the glinting metal of Luke's blade. The words from his friend were definitely appealing, especially when he told Emil that he never actually had to hurt anybody. It almost seemed too good to be true.
"Well... uh..." Emil started hesitantly, trying to make up his mind. "That is... you see..." The boy fidgeted a bit and tilted his gaze up at Luke before looking down again. "Would it be okay to learn both?"
Maybe he was asking too much though.

"Well sure," Luke replied encouragingly. "If that's what you want." He pulled the sword away from his hand and returned it to its sheath, "So you'll need a sword of your own, then. Something that's comfortable to you. You wanna do that now?"

Luke's encouragement certainly helped and Emil smiled and gave a nod. "S-sure," he replied, starting to feel a little bit excited. He was actually going to learn something. He'd never been given the opportunity to learn any new skills back at home, and he could only barely remember some things from.. before. But now the boy's enthusiasm was starting to show. A new light in his green eyes... maybe.. hope?

Luke nodded approvingly, "All right then!" Surprisingly, he still remembered the location of the sword dealer in Camphoreon's shopping mall - certainly not because he had spent so long trying to find it, though. Their direction set, he started moving in the general path of the large department store, "It's not too hard to learn. 'Smostly about form, once you've got a sword you're comfortable with. But first thing's first." And the first thing was to actually acquire the weapon in question.

Emil just continued to follow like the lost puppy he was. Luke was the first person to befriend him and thus he felt most comfortable around the red head. So, he believed everything that Luke said. And this sounded like it would be a lot of fun! "O-okay..." he said, his excitement slowly building as they made their way towards the mall. "How many kinds of swords are there?" And how would they know which was best for him? He would have to trust Luke's judgment on that too.

The question drew a thoughtful folding of his arms and a hum of consideration. "Uhh, well... One-handed and two-handed... broadswords and long swords... stuff like rapiers and sabers... short swords and daggers... Tons of different kinds, really. Like, basically every country in the world has its own style of sword," he explained. "Mine's called a dao, a kind of Chinese saber that's technically considered a broadsword." The automated doors of the department sword drew open to let the pair pass as they arrived. "If you want me to teach you, you'll probably want a broadsword or long sword. That's what I was trained with, so I don't really know about the styles of the others."

As they entered the store, Emil's eyes again went wide as he beheld the selection of swords. Who knew they had this sort of thing in the mall! ... Why did they have this sort of thing in the mall? Seemed kinda like a weird place to have swords. Oh well! The boy did nod at Luke's words though. It made sense. Luke couldn't very well teach him something he didn't know. "O-okay."
The boy then continued to look around in awe, not having any idea where to start. He had no idea what was what, but it was still fun to just look. The glistening blades of the swords were very pleasing to look at.

Where Emil was entranced by the appearance of the sword and was looking for the sake of looking, Luke looked over the array in an effort to pinpoint ones that would suit their needs. "I guess you'll probably want something balanced and easy to hold onto, huh..." That did painfully little to narrow down anything. "Well anyway... Try and find something you like, first of all."

"Okay," he said, putting a finger to his mouth as he looked around. The swords and the categories at least were labeled, and that made things easier. Thus, Emil gravitated to the long and broad swords. The first one he laid eyes on was a broad sword that was probably almost as big as him. He reached out for it to pick it up.. only to have the end of the blade quickly hit the floor.
Emil slightly paniced at this. "Sorry!" he apologized quickly, a bead of sweat rolling down his cheek as he tried to move it with little success. "I-I think this one is a l-little h-heavy." That was putting it mildly.

"Hey-- Careful!" Luke flinched at the sound of the blade clattering against the floor. "I meant balance like against your grip, not against your whole weight!" He moved to take the hilt from Emil, managing to heft it up back into place with some effort. This done, he heaved a sigh, "Try picking something more reasonable, okay?"

"R-right... Sorry" Emil apologized again while continuing to look. Okay.. so the first sword he saw in this group was a bad idea. Maybe the broad swords weren't for him anyway. He instead shifted his attention to the long swords, none of which looked all that exciting until he saw one that stood out. Emil picked this one up, and looked it over. It was certainly much lighter, and had a comfortable weight to it. The grip on it was very different as it wasn't connected just below the blade like Luke's but rather attached to a hand guard that curved outward.
"What about this one?" he asked of Luke, turning to show it to him to see what he thought.
