It certainly didn't look like it was nothing. Whatever it was, it had Alex really upset, but Mitzi still let out a small sigh of relief as he agreed to move on. She really didn't want to get that involved in his personal life right now.
Of course, the subject didn't stray too far away, and she really didn't have much to say that could drive it further away. "Not really, no... Most of the other scarelings around when I was younger were family, and, well, I wasn't really close with any of them. And my parents wanted me to be studying all the time, or working with this tutor or that tutor... I had to sneak out to have any time with friends at all." She'd had fights with friends, but none of them had been close enough for it to leave her upset. That, and normally by the time they could see each other again, they'd just ignored it.

Alex suddenly realised he had probably used the wrong type of wording completely. He and Yin weren't fighting at all. They were still friends, there hadn't been an argument of any kind. Just an agreement to give it a week. An entire seven days to just think about things. This was day one and thoughts of what might be at the end of those seven were tearing Alex apart inside.
I shouldn't have told him. That was stupid. But...but he said he would think about it and that's good, so maybe it was for the best....
He got almost lost in his thoughts as Mitzi rambled on about her family and studying and not having time for friends. All of Alex's friends before attending the academy had been his zombie cousins who were also members of the horde. He supposed he'd gotten into petty fights with them from time to time, but no, that was completely different and not a good comparison at all to what he was going through with Yin right now.
"You know what? Forget I asked. It was a dumb question and isn't really helpful to my current situation anyways."
He decided he wasn't going to get any studying done today, so he suddenly reached out and closed the large and dusty tomb in front of him, leaning back in his chair with a sigh.
"Sorry but I'm really not the best company right now. Maybe we can talk another time?" Ya, he was pretty much trying to tell her politely that he would actually rather be alone after all.

Well, clearly that had not been the sort of answer he was looking for. It was pretty obvious when the zomboil had been lost in his thoughts, and now she was just intruding. Which was fine, she hadn't wanted to stay this long anyway.
"Sure, give me a call sometime. Or we'll probably run into each other," she replied, rising again. With a bit of a wave, she headed out. She was a little surprised to find herself hoping he would give her a call, when he was feeling more social.
