"But you've grown now, haven't you?" Xiu's voice still hadn't lost that firm edge to it, "Our experiences shape who we are, and so you've learned from what you've done. You're acknowledging it right now."
No, she had not been happy about the kiss, nor about the whole chase in general...but Xiu herself had come away with a great deal of experience. Looking back on how she had acted then, the baku could only grimace and blush in embarrassment. "Whether you meant to or not, you helped teach me some things--things like how I'm supposed to deal with this kind of stuff. I was immature too, you know. I was just a kid." There was a pause, and then she crossed her arms over her chest.
"I'm still a kid. And frankly, so are you. You're supposed to look forward, Roch, not behind you."

"You just said our experiences shape who we are," he pointed after a long moment of "......". Then he snorted, looking at the emblem. "Look," he said after a moment. "Instead of giving this back, I want you to..."
He hesitated, then gave her a crooked grin. "Hold onto it for me. One of these days I'm going to be big. I'm gonna be a jackdamn good reaper--one of the best. One that I'll be proud to claim to be. If at that point we're still pals, give it back to me," he said, holding it out to her.
Yes, he said "if." Cynical b*****d, wasn't he?

Xiu sighed, propping her hands up on her hips. "What I mean to say is that you should let your experiences change you for the better, but not to constantly dwell on the bad parts. There's no point in dragging along luggage--that's just counter-productive."
She lifted her brows in surprise at his request, her gaze darting down to the emblem and then back up at him. There was a moment of pause, and she nodded, taking her pin and sliding it into her obi. When she looked back up, she offered him a smile.
"Alright then. I'll be waiting until that day comes."

"Yeah," he said, "me too. And good luck with your boilfriend and all that," he added before walking away, his hands in his pockets, a burden off of his shoulder--only to be replaced with another.
But he could handle the burden of getting stronger just fine. He hoped.
