The tone in Horae's voice and the look on her face was terrifying- she didn't look just angry, she looked downright hateful. And Laelia couldn't stand the thought of her sister hating her, but now she was in a tricky spot. The truth would make things worse, Horae didn't understand there was a reason Laelia was so secretive and distressed. She wouldn't understand the mistake she and Badiri had both made.
And, unless Horae was stupid, her chance to blame Yareha was gone.
"Mazin," she said, saying the first stupid, horrible thing that came to her mind. Immediately she regret it but it would have been a lie to say she hadn't thought about this, however foolishly. She had seen him around, and all of his brothers, she had been hanging around the slave dens for so long now.. but he looked so much like his father and, as a former romantic interest of Selene, he had a reason to be secret.
"It- it's Mazin."

Horae stopped in her tracks, still looking over her shoulder at Laelia. The anger was still there, but instead of nearly bubbling over, it was simmering, deep in her chest. The anger was still there, the rawness of being evaded. She didn't believe that Laelia was lying to her, but avoiding something and hiding it from your own sister was nearly as bad as lying in Horae's mind.
"Fine." Her voice was oddly calm, but it was hard to ignore the fact she could lose her anger at any moment. "Let's go find him, then." And she turned to leave again, except she was aiming for the slave dens instead of the rogue lands.

Laelia was stunned at how easily accepted her answer was-- until Horae said they should go find him. It could only be an effort to verify her claim, though Laelia could see how her sister had lost patience with the whole situation. The thought of Horae taking change was infuriating but there were bigger things to worry about.
"Horae- Horae wait!" she called, jogging to catch up to her sister, "He doesn't- he doesn't know yet, it was an accident, it was stupid- what would Selene say?"

Horae wanted to roll her eyes until they fell out. "She has Fuu now, why should we worry about what Selene said?" Still, Horae couldn't believe that she held back on telling Mazin. How cruel did she intend to be to everyone around her, family or not?
"Fine. You should be the one to tell him, not me. But remember that we're a family, and you need to stop hiding things."

"Fuu was not her choice, Mazin was."
It wasn't fun, speculating on the happiness of her recently married aunt but it was the truth- one that was perhaps more thought about by someone who had been so familiar with a malcontent like Yareha.
She was in so much trouble now but at least Horae had stopped.
"OK," she said quietly, frowning at Horae.

To be honest, Horae didn't care. Selene was married to Fuu, and thus Mazin was out of the picture. It was harsh, but it was hard for someone who had never been in love before to understand.
"Fine, fine. Go. I won't tell anyone, but still. Remember what I said. I'm going to check on Mom and Dad before going out on a patrol. I have some steam to blow off." And with that, she turned to go find her parents, and go kill a tree somewhere.

Laelia watched Horae go, not feeling any better than she had the first time Horae walked off. She was in so much trouble. So, so much trouble. What was going to happen in the almost inevitable event that Mazin refused to play along?
She glanced away from where Horae had gone to where she had last seen Mazin and his brothers around. The sooner she dealt with this, the better.
Fin!
