Rio was about to assure Léonce that he was indeed telling the truth, at least until he fainted, leaving the god to blink owlishly at him. That had most definitely not been anywhere on his list of possible reactions, and not one he was at all prepared for. The last time he'd seen anyone faint was when Alex had met Crispin!
Oh, dear. Now what was he supposed to do? He briefly considered the possibility of carrying the man, but quickly ruled it out. The potential for mishap was a little too high for his tastes, so he simply sighed and waited for him to wake up again, trying to place the distantly familiar feeling of that name.

Eventually Léonce did wake up, sighing again when he felt the touch of grass against his skin rather than the sheets of his bed. So, he really was here, wherever this Pantheon was. It took a few moments before he actually sat up again, once he realized Rio was still there he shifted himself so he knelt abeyante. Head bowed, hands clasped in his lap; it was one of the first things he had been taught and the best way to show respect that he knew.
I apologize, that was...improper. Improper was too mild a word for it really, but the last thing he wanted to do was to offend more than he no doubt already had.

There's nothing to apologize for. All of this is a lot to take in. Rio, for his part, wasn't the least bit offended, only concerned. Poor Léonce had hit his head, woken up far from home, come face to face with a god, and fainted...it was probably not the best of days for him. Please, you needn't kneel. I am not so formal.

Léonce glanced up at Rio tentatively but didn't raise his head so he could actually meet the god's gaze. He moved after a moment, settling cross legged instead, hands still clasped and head still bowed. Even with all the training he had in his life, he wasn't prepared for this at all. Then again, who would be? How often did one get to meet their patron god? How does one behave before Namaah? He wondered silently and clasped his hands a little tighter, not noticing they were trembling again. This was no mere patron whose whims he could discern easily enough.

Léonce might not have noticed his hands were trembling, but Rio did, and he frowned. He rose enough to lean forward and clasp the other's hands in his own, and tried to catch his gaze. You have nothing to fear from me, Leo. Please, I didn't mean to startle you so, especially so soon. I should have waited.

Léonce's eyes widened and he flushed deeply when Rio touched him. His trembling stilled at the touch though, soothed like spreading balm over a wound. The young man's voice was surprisingly steady, if quiet, when he spoke. It is not fear I feel. He swallowed and took a deep breath. If you are truly Love, then you are Namaah, my patron god. Hopefully that would help Rio understand how deep a meaning this meeting had.
Finally he lifted his head, daring to look Rio in the eye. I am your servant, my lord.

Ah. Yes, now he understood, at least in part. While there was the ring of familiarity to the name, he lacked true recognition of it. The Fading had cost them all so many memories...
My servant? You may want to wait before making such declarations. You may find I am not what you expect. Much here is so. Still...if that is your wish, I would be honored. Love pressed a soft kiss to the man's forehead. But please, do call me Rio - or Naamah, or whatever name you choose. I do not feel especially lordly, most days.

If it was possible he blushed a bit deeper, making a small contented noise, his eyes closing. It seemed Rio didn't understand the implications of what he said. It has been my wish, since I was thirteen years old and was dedicated to your service. It is not a choice taken lightly. His eyes opened again, only to find himself staring into Rio's. To be a Servant of Namaah, means to surrender oneself to a patron's whims. Namaah blesses us with desire for each each patron.
He turned his hand enough to grasp one of Love's gently. Love making a sacred act in Terre D'Ange, as much to pay homage to you as it is to express desire. All children of Terre D'Ange are raised with the precept 'Love as thou wilt.', choosing to be a Servant of Namaah is but one way express that. It wasn't a full explanation, but was always difficult to explain what it was to be a Servant of Namaah to one who wasn't familiar with the concept.

A courtesan, of a sort, but also much more. Somehow, he suspected Khiviance's hand in this as much as his own, but it had not been uncommon for them to share followers. They had been of a pair, once. A long time ago.
I apologize. It must seem odd, that I need an explanation, but there is much I do not yet remember...may never remember, of who I have been. There are so many names, so much that is lost... He closed his eyes a moment, but when he opened them, smiled despite his words. As I said, much here is not what you might expect it to be, and I do not exclude myself or any of the other gods from that statement.

Much is already different from what I was told growing up, but I bear it all with an open heart and mind. I would honor my vow still, despite that. He raised Rio's hand to his lips and pressed a soft kiss to the back of it, then another to his wrist where he had fallen on it, the tip of his tongue slipping past his lips to lightly tease the sensitive skin. It was a small trick he liked to use gauge a patron's reaction. A lot could be determined about someone from a response to such a simple thing.
Léonce paused afterward to look up at Rio again, wondering if he was being too forward with his actions or if he would appreciate it given who he was. I would give you back what knowledge I can, if you wish it. He smiled at the god in return, expression very soft and playful. There are stories about you, that you might enjoy hearing.

If the slight widening of his eyes and twitch of his wings was any indication, Rio had not expected that, but he also didn't object; while it wasn't every day that a near-stranger was so forward with him, he certainly wouldn't have minded if it were! He was quick to grin, and turn his hand to catch Leo's chin in his fingers...and let it go, leaving whatever gesture might have followed incomplete. Two could tease.
I would enjoy learning more of myself, and of you.

It seemed the attention was well received then! Léonce's grin widened, drawing in a breath when Rio caught his chin and letting it go when his hand slid away. Well now, that wasn't entirely fair. It was rare that someone would be just as teasing in return. A little flicker of disappointment showed his eyes, wondering what the god had in mind before his hand pulled away, but it disappeared just as quickly as it had come.
Well, where should we begin?

Though it didn't linger long, Rio couldn't miss that look of a disappointment, and savored it with a glimmer of mischief in his own eyes. This was a game he hadn't played in a long time; while he and his aoidei often teased each other, they also knew each other very well.
He considered the question, drawing back slightly. There was no need to rush. Who is Naamah, as you knew them?

Mm..that's a vast question. He paused, dropped back onto the grass again, while he considered the best way to explain it. Stories tell of Namaah as a woman, but I prefer to think of it as one who embodies your desire best. She was one of the angels, the Companions, who came down from Heaven when Elua was imprisoned by the King of Persis. She offered herself to the King for a night in exchange to Elua's freedom.
There was much debate why and how she did such a thing, but he would get to that eventually. Once he was free Elua and his Companion's journeyed across the lands seeking a place they might call home. Namaah bestowed her gifts on others along the way, so they might have food and a roof over their heads. It wasn't until they came to Terre D'Ange that they saw the beauty of the land and decided to remain there. Each founded a province, save Elua who preferred to wander and Cassiel his Perfect Companion, their blood runs down the ages even now.
It is how come we are regarded as such an extraordinary people. He looked over at Rio, wondering what he thought so far. That was the short version of his people's history.

Love listened carefully, having returned to a sit and propping his chin in one hand. He didn't speak immediately after, instead taking time to absorb and think over what he was told. If the story at its root was true, it was likely that the Companions had been aoidei, and Elua a god, that the original Naamah had been neither him nor his counterpart...but perhaps she had been one of theirs, whether at that time or before. It wasn't completely unheard of for aoidei to go into the service of other gods, whether as gifts or of their own volition.
Rather than voice such speculations, however, he would leave them for later, when he had done some explaining of his own. That sounds fitting. I am, as it happens, not the only Love - there is a goddess as well, called Khiviance now.
Even as he spoke of her, he brushed away the thoughts that always followed. Where was she, and why... Who is Elua?
