The child brightened considerably when he mentioned he would take her to the movies. She shoved another Oreo into her mouth and wiggled her feet in the air for a minute, then finished her food and looked over to Jett. “What happened to your dad…? Did he die?” She was curious, but didn’t want to upset Jett…but…He didn’t sound happy when he mentioned his dad.

She watched him, waiting for some sort of an answer. “I mean, if he did die and it makes you sad, you don’t have to tell me, but…but I want you to be able to talk to me because you’re my best friend, apart from Minny, Jett. You’re my best friend. I want you to know that.”

He glanced at the girl, eyes half lidded, and flashed a quaint smile. It fell from his lips after only a second, but he had made the effort for the girl, regardless. Speaking about his father left him with only a few emotions; he’d had the majority of his life to resent him and felt only disappointment, disgust, anger, and pure hatred. There was no sadness whatsoever.

“No, he didn’t die. He just.” Jett shrugged slightly, eyes unwavering from the television. He resisted the urge to clench his hand into a fist and instead just drummed his fingers lightly on the arm rest. “Left.”

Millie hesitated, then her lip trembled as the meaning of Jett's words really sunk in. She nodded, then slid off the couch, taking his package of cookies off of his lap and putting them on the floor, before climbing into his lap, hugging him.

"Dads are stupid anyway. You and I don't need them. We have the very best moms in the whole world, and they love us more then any stupid dad ever could. Right?" How mean could you be? To just...leave your child?

Or in Millie's case...to work too much and think that working was more important then your child. If he could just...be nicer, maybe Garethon could get back together with her mom, right? And they could be a real happy family again...Well. A real happy family for once. Well, that was a dream that wouldn't come true any time soon. Her dad hated her mother. And he always would. She wasn't stupid. It wasn't difficult to see.

Another smile flickered onto Jett’s face as he adjusted position so that he was more comfortable. He let Millicent hug him—and returned it a bit, despite not being a fan of physical gestures of comfort (or any gestures of comfort, for that matter). “Yeah, that’s right,” he laughed lightly, forcing himself to relax a bit. “But sometimes it’s not fair.”

He was chewing on the inside of his cheek just a bit—a habit he found himself partaking in when he was either irritated or thoughtful. “Not to Mom. Not easy raising a kid on your own. Especially when all he does is give you hell and you spend all your time working so you can support your family and pay the bills. That's the sort of work load you're supposed to have someone to help you with. Someone to take half the burden. Not fair to make one person do it all alone.”

The girl sighed, nodding. "It's not fair. And she's super lonely and all he does is want to work and then he talks so mean about her when he thinks I'm too busy playing my games. I try to be the best daughter I can for my mom though. That's good, right?"

It had to be good. She always did her best to be good. "Jett, we have to be the best kids ever. Our moms deserve that from us. They really do!"

She glanced back towards the television screen and just stayed laying on Jett. Maybe this was what having a big brother was like. Well...She wished she could have one.

After a long moment of silence, Millie looked at the male. "Hey, Jett? Would you be my brother? Please? I've always wanted one, and you're the best person out there to BE my big brother...so...please?"

Jett was already distressed enough about what sort of son he’d been to his mother of late, so listening to Millie only encouraged him to put more effort into making sure his mother knew how important she was to him and towards making her life easier. He didn’t seem to mind her laying on him; on the contrary, it was rather comfortable, all things considered.

He was still sore, but Millie was warm and didn’t weigh enough to put a painful sort of pressure on any of the injuries he’d received through boxing or running around as a senshi. He tilted his head just slightly with Millicent’s question.

Big brother? Him?

He resorted to his default phrase to buy some time. “You…sure your mom’d be all right with that?” Millicent already knew that his mother had wanted a daughter, so there was no reason to even ask her. Millicent was already calling her Mom, and the two got along just swimmingly. It probably didn’t help that Jett’s mother thought it was just adorable how Jett strained himself to accommodate the girl. Charmaine was used to her son’s miscreant friends, who thankfully no longer came around, though she absolutely loved Millicent—and thought the girl was a lovely addition to her home environment.

Thought Charmaine wouldn’t be a problem, Jett sometimes worried about Bellatrix. He was already sure that the woman thought he was batshit crazy and quite possibly a ***** on top of it all. Not that he wouldn’t make the effort for Millie if she really wanted him to; he liked the girl, for all the trouble and energy she was, and the part of him that had grown up a lonely, only child couldn't help but fondly consider the notion of a surrogate sibling.

The child laughed, closing her eyes. “Yeah. Mom would be okay with that…and…that way we’d both get two moms…so it’ll make the whole having stupid dads hurt less, right?” Millicent adored Jett’s mother, almost as much as she adored her own, she decided. Yes. Making Jett her brother was the best decision in the whole entire world, and she knew that.

“So, you’ll be my brother from now on, and I’ll be your sister. I just decided you don’t get a say in it anymore. That’s what’s going to happen from now on. Okay?” She sat up, looking at him and laughing. “Now be happy about it.” She was happy about it, and that was really the only thing that mattered to her. She couldn’t wait to tell her mom, and Jett’s mom. They could start having family dinners, and it would all just be super awesome.

Jett tilted his head to look at Millicent. He blinked, barely considering her words before a little laugh fell from his lips. “Okay, Miss Control Freak.”

He wasn’t upset with her; he considered her words to be sweet—comforting, in their own, odd little way. He told himself that he’d long since gotten over his father, but whenever he came up, there was little denying how deeply rooted Jett’s hatred was. Millicent’s self proclaimed relation to him would just thrill his mother, and how could he deny her any happiness when she deserved so much.

“…Now, settle down and watch your movie or you’ll miss it,” he grumbled, in typical Jett fashion, as he moved to adjust the blanket he was tucked under so that it covered Millicent too.

Millicent stuck her tongue out, then snuggled close once again, happy for the blanket. She turned to Star Wars and seemed completely and utterly happy with the whole situation. Her mom would be so excited that she had gone with the babysitter and come back with a brother. How cool was that.

Well, now she was just going to enjoy the rest of the day spent with Jett, and start to figure out ways to annoy him…because that was what little sisters were meant to do. They were there to annoy their big brothers…and she would start annoying him…the next time she saw him. That was a promise made to herself.
