Danny's air drumming was interrupted rather abruptly by a pretty ghoul coming and sitting at her table. The ghoul's hair slightly upset Danny, because it sort of looked like her old hair, but she didn't say anything if it bothered her. Besides, she liked her new hair too. She missed that long rope of hair trailing behind her though ...
Anyways. "Yeah I-" Danny began, but was cut off by the ghost launching into a question about a soul. Her head tilted slightly. Uhhh? A soul? Was she ... feeling okay? Of course she didn't have a soul!
"Nope," Danny said very abruptly, with no hesitation in her voice whatsoever, "Demons don't have souls, demons collect souls!" she said, as though she was repeating a nursery rhyme (and all things considered, she probably was). She smiled back eagerly at the ghoul. What was she even supposed to be doing?
Well, Danny didn't have any ideas. "Why, are we supposed to?" Uh oh. What if she was supposed to have a soul and she didn't! Oh gosh oh go-
Amarus' shiny bells caught her goldphish attention span. "Ooooh those are pretty! Do you always wear bells?"

"Naturally, Sin Err. Pleasure to make your acquaintance, Willow is it?" Sin held out a hand.
She had to work hard not to let her eyes move over the ghoul in her usual judgmental fashion. She was here to make nice after all this wasn't about demons or status, this was just...small talk.
"Please sit, I'd love to hear a bit about you. How long have you been here at school?"

Well, now Xiu had someone to go to if she ever needed tie advice! Though that being said, being a ghoul, she didn't get that many chances to wear a tie in the first place. Not unless it was part of a costume, like the mafia-themed outfit she had worn before, but...well. It was still good to know that she had a go-to person if the day ever came where she had to pick out a tie.
Her expression seemed amused as she listened to him speak about his siblings, lips twisted in a wry smile as he noted that siblings could be troublesome as well. Yes, she had definitely heard that from some of her other friends too. Therefore, what Alex said about his brother was not surprising in the least, but as for his sisters...
Xiu didn't seem like she heard anything past the "cut my head off" bit. Her eyes grew round, mouth hanging open slightly as she regarded the zomboil with a kind of horror. They had done what to him? An upset look momentarily crossed her face, but she was quick to push it away as Alex continued to talk. Unsurprisingly, it didn't seem like he wanted to dwell on the topic, so she would let it drop.
Fortunately, it wasn't too hard to get that smile back on the baku's face. At the honest confession that Alex and Yin were best friends, the ghoul resisted the urge to emit a little, "awww". Instead, she simply leaned forward, elbow on the table as she propped her chin up on her hand. "You two have such a wonderful friendship!"
She perked up, looking down as her camera was brought into the conversation. Laughing, she lifted it up and set it on the table. "A hobby! Though I am the photographer for the school newspaper and the yearbook." Photography definitely came second to cooking and baking, though. And speaking of baking...
"Oh, Alex! Have you joined any school clubs yet?"

Willow's tail twitched as she watched the other introduce herself, "Yes, Willow Voltaire. Nice to meet you Sin Err." She returned the pleasantries as she took her seat with a small smile.
"How long, hm... Well I was enrolled shortly after, Open house." She smiled, "What about yourself? How long have you been enrolled?" Willow took a moment to look over the demon, and admire her.

"It's been about two Halloweens now, though my winter break was extended by my parents after our last field trip..." She frowned a bit, the field trip, Red's demise, these were all topics she would rather avoid.
"Are you an only child?" She asked instead quickly hoping to keep the subject away from school. She always wondered what having siblings might have been like. Perhaps her parents wouldn't have pressured her so constantly to be the best. Then again knowing her parents they would simply expect every child of theirs to be the best.
She knew her friend Julian had elder brothers, and Rosc hadn't any siblings, but the demons of his club were practically family.

She knew her friend Julian had elder brothers, and Rosc hadn't any siblings, but the demons of his club were practically family. "Yeah.... that field trip before winter break was a... interesting one." Actually that had been her first field trip at the school.
It was something that left a lasting impression to say the least, and while Sin hopped right on to the next subject Willow paused, "I guess you could say not technically, but I don't really know all my siblings either."
It was a vague answer, as she straightened the table cloth in front of her. "A lot of my family tends to do the whole 'loner' thing." She air quoted herself as she spoke. "We're not normally really big on large crowds. Sort of a force of habit, not to mention we're slightly territorial. However, while my mother has a small area she cares for, dad has a larger area because he tends to several other ghoulies as well. So I think I have some half siblings somewhere."
Willow's tail twitched, as she thought, "What about your family, do you have any siblings or a large family in general?"

Amarus wasn't good with expressions in the first place, so even if there was the smallest chance of Danny's mannerisms or expression betraying the fact that Amarus' hair style bothered her, she would never have picked up on it. Amarus did not particularly care one way or another how her hair was styled, but it was somehow important to her without verbalizing it. The way it was bound, the way it had been cut to frame her face: these things meant something, but she would never be able to put her finger on it. That was the down side to having no memories of who you had been before.
"Oh, a demon, you say?" Amarus looked Danny over once or twice, thinking. She perched a little closer to the edge of her seat. "In that case, if I have no soul, I suppose I am safe from you. But if you know that you don't have one, and that you just collect them... what is a soul, exactly?"
Finally, could someone answer her long-standing and troubling debate as to what a soul was, whether she could have one, where to find them... It had plagued her since she could remember the figure at the haunted house, that place from which she'd come.
However, Danny did reply Why, are we supposed to? which immediately made her realize that no, this probably would not answer all her questions. She did not sigh, but leaned back, her bells jingling again.
"Yes," Amarus replied, "I never remove them. It didn't occur to me I could even do so." Amarus reached up and brushed her fingers along the metal, closing her eyes to listen to them.
Amarus paused, and at the risk of sounding like a broken record, asked, "Danny, if you have no soul, is your only purpose to collect them? I was under the impression that was the task of a reaper. What would you say your... one goal is?" There had to be something that Danny wanted more than anything else, didn't there? And on Scarentines, it seemed like perhaps students could seize that which they wanted most... Even if Amarus could not do that for herself, she could find out what others wanted. What drove them, fueled them.
It was hard to understand one's purpose without memories or notable emotions. "...I'm behaving strangely, aren't I?" she asked, as if for clarification. Amarus tried to relax and lean back in her chair. "Um... so... what's your favourite... uh...food?" she asked, as if wracking her brain to try to figure out what "normal" things she could ask.

Alex nodded along happily with the comment that he and Yin had a wonderful friendship, but he wanted to stop thinking about the weremantis now because every time he did there were suddenly funny feelings in his stomach and his chest got all tight. Considering he was supposed to be focusing more on Xiu at the moment he figured it would just be best to move on from the subject and focus on something else instead. And so he eagerly grasped ahold of the new subject matter placed before him as Xiu answered his own question about her camera. His eyes lit up when she asked him if he had joined any clubs himself and he gave a small shake of his head. "No, but I've been thinking about joining some. I really need to get out and do more things outside of the classroom and library." He chuckled. "Especially since I'm more comfortable around large groups." He added thoughtfully. "Why, do you know of any good ones that I might be interested in?" (Answered: 5, Asked: 4)

Sin listened with interest as Willow described what sounded like a large and unusual family. Then again anything that wasn't demon society had seemed unusual to her.
"Me? No, I'm an only child...our family is well connected though. My cousin attends Amityville, but we don't usually attend to same classes. I love literature and minipet care, what are your favorite classes?"
She flicked her hair back and smiled, this was actually rather nice, pity she only had a few more minutes with this ghoul. Hopefully she would have the chance to bump into her again and chat sometime.

Willow's ears twitched slightly as she listened to Sin, "Oh your cousin? Might I ask their name?"
She smiled, maybe she knew Sin's cousin it'd be interesting if she did. Though if not it'd be someone else to keep an eye out for. She nodded at the mention of classes, "I don't really have a favorite so far, I came to learn about how different species interact mostly. Though, the minipet classes are very interesting and useful. I took human studies too, just to see what it was about"
This was a very interesting way to get to meet someone, "Oh, what's your favorite thing to do? Like not class wise but activities." Willow asked curiously, having thought maybe she could learn about things to do around the school through other students interests.

Good Jack this ghoul talked a lot. Like a LOT. There were so many questions! How was she supposed to handle all this!?
Danny took her feet off the table and set them on the floor, trying to concentrate, but it wasn't working well. Every time she started to focus, her eyes would be distracted by something else in the room; Xiu and Alex talking, the lights, the skull, the scarentines games- it was too much.
In fact, all she really got was some questions about souls, and favorite foods. Okay, she could do that. Sort of.
Her eyebrows furrowed in concentration. Damn this was like a test, and she was NOT happy. "No one in Halloween has a soul," she said, recalling Roch's conversation about it. "Demons go to the human world to scare humans by ... taking their soul? Contracting for their soul? Or was it eating their soul..." She scratched her head in frustration. She really couldn't remember this stuff.
"Aughhh I don't remember," she whined.
Changing the subject, she said, "My favorite food..." Her mind flitted to Rikki making burgers one night. He wasn't a great cook, but she always recalled that when the idea of favored foods came up.
"Snotcorn," she replied, avoiding it completely. "With a movie!" She tapped her chin. "Ooh! Ooh! Favorite movie!" she said, "What's your favorite movie?"((Questions Asked: 2))

Maybe it was the way that Danny seemed incapable of focusing, or maybe it was the way her face looked when she furrowed her brows in concentration, or perhaps it was the way in which she whined when she didn't have the answer. Amarus stared at her: irritation, or some form of it, seemed to be blossoming within her, somewhere deep down. It nagged at her consciousness, and sooner or later, she imagined she wouldn't be able to quell it.
There was very little Amarus disliked more than a ghoul who whined. At least it got Amarus to stop asking so many questions. Typically, Amarus wasn't quite so talkative, but whenever the topic of souls came up she could hardly shut up. So it was with relative dissatisfaction that she finally quieted down and leaned back. She brought her feet up and sat cross-legged on the chair, folding her hands into various shapes: the kuji-kiri she used to channel her fighting spirit. For a sub-species which was so focused around making others at ease, and one which had such a natural sense of calm, Amarus loved to fight too much. Perhaps it was because when she was fighting, everything aligned to make sense. Amarus did not understand memories, feelings, friendship, clothing, movies, or even skariokart... until it was a competition. Then she could understand being better or worse than a competitor, and striving to best them.
That was what Amarus understood. She wasn't sure why she had asked Danny what her favourite food was, as Amarus didn't know much about foods nor did she care to. What followed in the discussion was even more useless to her, as she was notoriously awful with technology. Scariokart was as far as she'd gotten, she didn't even use an eyePhone, nor any kind of skellyphone, mind; if someone needed to get in touch with her, they'd have to work a little harder. Not that anyone needed to, so far. Anyone who wanted to see her would find she pretty much showed up.
"Technology tends to... how do I phrase this," she paused, "...it seems to not work, when I am around." It didn't, really; she didn't have some kind of natural technology-disrupting field, she was just really not good with it. Mort had tried to explain, once, but it seemed that her ignorance extended pretty far. For what she possessed in raw power and skill in combat, she lacked entirely in that kind of intelligence. She also hated books, so that wasn't even a possibility.
She couldn't really answer Danny's question in any kind of interesting way, then. "So basically, I've never seen a movie." Which was true. "Why, do you like movies? What's your favourite?" she asked, trying to prompt Danny, perhaps. She stared at Danny without blinking, her hands folded in her lap.

Danny's head tilted. Movies ... didn't work when she was around? The horror. Danny couldn't even imagine never seeing movies. Well, they WERE kind of annoying because you couldn't get up and move around or anything, but still! Movies were movies!
"Yeah I love movies!" she said, getting a little more excited about the subject matter. "I like um. I like um. Scarers of the Lost Ark. Uhhh Sandlot! Love Sandlot. Errrr ..." She racked her mind. Movies sort of went in and out, but she lost focus again.
Come to think of it, she still didn't know the ghoul's name. Ama ... Ami ... Errr. It'd be Am for now. Like Ahm! "So Am," she said, "How long have you been at Amityville? 'Cause I haven't seen you before!" Well it was a big school, and she definitely didn't know everyone ... but still!((Questions Asked: 3))

chimarii [[You know you get Scarentines points on the scorecard for answering questions too, right? If you already know, don't mind me! I was just watching your tally and hoping you're keeping track of the times you answer, too! > u>]] It seemed like this ghoul really got animated when she could talk about things she liked. Okay, well, that was a lot like Amarus herself, really-- it's just that movies appeared to excite Danny, while Amarus was more interested in fighting and souls. "I have no idea what either of those are," she said, her voice relatively flat. Not that it was unusual. Amarus' eyes were getting heavy, and she leaned her elbow on the table, resting her head in her palm. She watched Danny through half-lidded eyes, and she was now so sleepy that she didn't even bother taking offense to being called Am. What kind of a name was Am, anyway?
"Well, Dan, I don't know... I've been here since the haunted house thing... yeah. I was at the Maul when the Ginger Hizzy attacked and all." Amarus looked a little more animated, for a moment. That had been one crazy battle. She smiled into her hand when she remembered Riri with purse-Neil, retrieving his skull pin, the scarf around his face... Ah, she missed her friends. "You've been here a lot longer than me, right?"
"Why did you decide to study here?" Amarus asked. Because she was a ghost who'd come to Amityville in a kind of strange way, she forgot that some were able to choose to come here, rather than wind up here.

Boil oh boil, these two looked like they were having some conversation! A Disgruntled Cupid Gnome scuttled past their table, intent on disrupting whatever they were talking about. He waited until there was a second of silence, and then kicked both of their shins.
When he ran off, one Scarentine Point fell from his diaper for each of them.
(Please claim these in the claim thread!)
