"Free shot? If ya say so." Ofelia, sadly, didn't really have her heart into the blow and really just sort of....pushed herself at Jordan. She was more the type to respond when pressed again, a counterattack sort rather than a take the lead. She did like punching things, don't get her wrong, but her lack of hitting anything on time this time was a bit of a downer.
Maybe she could play it off, like she was just testing the weight of her weapons? Rue's cackle in her ear was not so subtle. "Er, never been too good at jus' hittin' wit'out bein' swung at first."

That had been - well, not quite pathetic, but uninspired. Jordan shrugged. "Okay," he said, and took a quick step closer to bring Ferros around in a lazy arc, aiming for Ofelia's shoulder.

Being hit was exactly what Ofelia needed, or something, and as soon as she felt the hammer make contact she naturally winced in pain...and then went on to take a nice swing at Jordan. Being able to use both her hands at equal amounts of skill always helped when she attacked, and so she could make a feint with her right hand before actually punching with her left.
It made contact, and all was well.

"Much better," Jordan said, and moved back cautiously, circling to the side and watching Ofelia carefully. He had the advantage of range on her, if only slightly; still, he intended to make as much use of that fact as he could.
He swung again, letting Ferros bounce off of Rue's metal; a test of sorts, to see whether Ofelia's weapon would get angry when directly attacked.

Ofelia wasn't taking notes, as she should have, about the fact that his hammer gave Jordan a distinct advantage of distance from her. It was hard for her to get in and get a strike and, even when she did, she got hit for all her troubles. "Tsssk."
She'd managed to get a light swipe in on his shield but had taken a nice strong hammer blow to the back as a reward. Just like with Marcus, there was too obvious a gap in strength.

"You're going to have to watch yourself," Jordan said. "Since you have to get in so close to land a hit, you're more vulnerable to attack in return. Focusing on speed and reflexes might help with defense." He should probably be taking it easier on her; she and Rue hadn't learned to work together yet, and it showed.
No, Ferros growled. Monsters aren't nice. The scrape and rumble in his voice rang harshly in Jordan's head; the sense of overflowing heat that accompanied his charge had built uncomfortably. Let me flame, the dragon demanded.
No. We're doing this to give her some experience. If I let you flatten her, she's not going to get much good out of it.

At the rate this was going, Ofelia was going to be on the ground before he even learned to break a sweat. Would monsters use weapons? Was she supposed to be talking during the fight? Either way she did get another hit in, and Rue's familiar moaning filled her ears.
I want it.
Hold on

"You're doing all right," Jordan said encouragingly. "You've hit me back every time I've hit you; that's promising." The point of this wasn't to discourage Ofelia, really. And she'd only missed once, and kept up a steady series of attacks since then, even though she had to be feeling it by now.

Now? Ofelia felt Rue groan, then moan, and then came the mental shiver that indicated what she already knew.
Now. A cackle erupted in the back of her skull as her hands seem to light up with FEAR, her weapon enveloping itself as Ofelia took two steps forward. she got hit in the process but she shrugged it off, taking care to punch both of her hands at the same time into Jordan's chest and stomach. It was a strong hit, a good hit, and Ofelia felt somewhat proud.
She also felt hella tired.

While Ofelia's short reach and range meant that she was more vulnerable to counterattack, they also meant that her punches were a lot harder to block; while Jordan might have caught a longer weapon against the head or hilt of his hammer, when Ofelia got inside his reach and her weapon lit up with Fear, he could really only brace himself for it.
The double punch sent him sprawling, winded, and it took a good few moments to shake off the pain and catch his breath enough to roll back to his feet. He rubbed gingerly at his chest and said with a note of pride in his voice, "That's gonna bruise for sure."
She hurt you, Ferros snarled. I'll hurt her.
That's kind of the point, remember? No flame. The effort required to keep Ferros from using his charge distracted Jordan, though, and he realized too late that he'd put more force into his swing than he'd intended. "Er - sorry."

This was bad, bad bad very bad bad. She was seeing stars, or at least hearing the ocean or something, and Ofelia staggered as the hammer came and struck her against the side of her body. It rattled her head, no mistake about that, and the sun hunter swayed as she did her best to stay on her feet. There was no way she was going to get knocked down, not while she still had any thoughts left in her head.
Her knees though were giving her away more than the rest of her general posture, as she managed to get back into a fighting stance but had her legs buckling somewhat inward. They were faintly trembling with the effort, but at least she wasn't just collapsing to the ground like she had before. This time she was determined to stay on her feet until the end.

"Hey," Jordan said, and unsummoned Ferros; the weapon grumbled loudly, and the swirl of metallic motes as he returned to being a ring was fractionally slower than usual, but he went without further protest. "You're looking pretty shaky. C'mon, let's go over to the cafeteria and get some coffee and something to eat. I don't want to land you in the infirmary again by accident."
He moved close, holding a hand out to Ofelia. "That was a good match. You had us down to about half strength."

Ofelia's eyes weren't focused, if that meant anything at all. She likely'd been rattled a bit too much by that list hit and was still feeling it, so when Jordan approached her she didn't quite respond as quickly as she should. Instead she looked at the hand as it slid into view, her eyes twitching with a blink, and slowly, carefully, something slid from her face and hit the ground.
It was her eye.
It rolled a good three or four feet away before coming to a stop in the grass.
". . . wha?" Rue didn't even bother to wait to be sent away, she sent herself, and in doing so she slapped Ofelia mentally in an effort to get her attention.

Crap, he'd actually forgotten about the eye - had he managed to swing from her blind spot without meaning to? Jordan went to pick it up - that had been creepy, but it was his fault the glass eye had fallen out, so he should at least retrieve it.
He returned and held the eye out to her, not looking at it too closely; it was realistic enough to make him feel weird about holding it. "Sorry," he said contritely. "I forgot about that. Are you all right?"

Ofelia was still rubbing the side of her head when Jordan came back and she peered at him, the hollow socket of her missing eye a bright beacon against her scarred face. A thin smile stretched across her lips as she registered that he was talking to her, and she nodded (why, who knows) as she took the glass eye from his hand. "Mmm, yeah, thanks." Her voice was softer, like all the oopmh and energy she had was gone, and instead of putting the eye back into its socket she stuffed it into her pocket. "Gotta use drops fer it, else it kinda hurts."
Either she was reading his mind somehow or just has been asked that before, who knows, but Ofelia swayed a bit on her feet as she tried to gain her balance. That hit had taken her for a loop, coming into her blindside like that, but she wasn't ready to just drop yet. She needed to make sure they were somewhere else before she let her knees buckle and take her down. "Also, food? Didja say? Ah....mah head."
