Pheonix knew of the instincts he spoke of. Sometimes, when she used to wander, her feet would take her to the strangest places simply because they felt right to her. Her belly felt full and she quit coughing for now. Her ears flicked forward as she slowly started toward the mountains waiting on Ahadzen to catch up.
"I would be doubtful, but I'm not sure anymore. I don't even remember what kind of bird I was.." Her brows furrowed a little as her tail flicked back and forth harshly, feathers rustling in the rhythmic blows of her tail. "Maybe you'll find something too. Did your herd use to travel to the mountains a lot?" Pheonix tilted her head in question at the stallion, ears raised toward him indicating that she was listening closely even though her gaze was toward the mountains.

Have they? Of course! He nodded slowly following, allowing Pheonix to take the lead. He wouldn't mind being the rear. "Yes... they have actually. Once a moon every year, we'd travel to and from a mountain range to have this weird worship ritual. I'm not quite sure what we were worshipping, but there was alot of a cold, white blanket on our hooves!"
His smile turned to a frown though. Just thinking about the blanket gave him an odd chill, a chill that he thought he heard a familiar whisper.

Pheonix picked her way slowly up a path, her hooves locking into small crevices where she could get them. The fact that they were cloven much like a ram's rather than rounded made this sort of thing easier on the female. Her ears flicked back listening all the while to her traveling companion, tail trailing behind her slightly limp. "Well maybe as we travel further up, you'll experience something. You might see someone." Her nostrils flared taking in the earthy scent of the mountain. "Cold, white blanket? Sounds like snow. Master used to say that snow always came around the high mountains. We might see some, but it has to be really really cold." Pheonix eyed her steps carefully trying to find paths that could also help Ahadzen climb up behind her. This little 'venture was turning out to be quite thrilling!

He looked at the ground, careful not to loose his footing. Just one step, and it could lead to a serious injury. Anything was possible.
Taking in the idea of snow, he slowly took nerve to look up. "So that's what that's called!" he whinnied. "I've always wondered what it was called. No one ever told me though." The feeling in him felt odd. What was it? His nostrils flared with wonder of what or who this "someone" could possibly be, if they do encounter a stranger.

"So one of the many mysteries of life have been solved for you, eh?" Pheonix gave a chuckle as she continued to scale the mountains. As the duo got higher, it did indeed get colder and a little more white on the ground. Her nostrils flared as she came up to a small plateau. She trotted to the side so Ahadzen could get on as she stared out. "Wow...I didn't think we climbed that far up. Come take a look, Ahadzen." The mare gave a grin as she took in the landscape. Everything was so much smaller at this height, but still pretty all the while.

He coughed taking in the fresh mountain air. Somehow it was too crisp for him. Following Pheonix, he made sure to stay beside her. "Yes... we are awfully high up." he spoke restless. The sight was stunning, but he was no azrein fit for this weather. Backing up a bit, the stallion pawed the snow in search of any sign of vegetation underneath him. None.

The mare eyed Ahadzen carefully as he restlessly moved around their little spot. She gave a bit of a grunt, "You seem uncomfortable. I suppose we need to go back down in order to have you relax...and eat." She eyed the ground where he pawed and again gave a snort. "There is very little vegetation up this high. I am sure if we find any - if at all - you won't eat it." Pheonix stretched a little as she stared over at the horizon with a sense of longing to fly. It was strange for her, but she felt at home this high up, maybe even higher. Pheonix was indeed a strange one.

Go back down? What about their adventure? "I'm fine," he argued. "Its just that I've never been this high since my colthood!" Prancing around while looking at the horizon for a few moments, he trudged on forth. She would eventually follow. Best to leave her in her thoughts first. Ahadzen thought.
On his voyage up the cliffs, he looked around for any sounds. Flicking his ears, he could hear the songs of the sairys birds overhead. Without hesitating, he went forward once again, eventually stopping at a rather flat area for Pheonix.

I most humbly apologize for my absence. That's what I get for using my mule to rp with while I waited for Gaia to return this account to me.

Free didn't know what had overcome her, but when she finally recovered her senses, the day had progressed into late afternoon, and the other Azrein were gone. She was feeling very put out with herself, and decided to see if she could find them. She raised her head and inhaled the air, but that got her nothing. So instead, she lowered her nose to the ground and sniffed around until she found a faint scent. She wasted no time in following it, as the day was wearing on, and she didn't want to be traipsing around the countryside in the dark.
Before long she was standing at the base of a mountain, and looking up it's steep side, she could just make out two figures in the rocks. She wondered how they had managed to climb so high, but she put that thought out of her mind. Mountain climbing was what she was bred for, and it would take her no time at all to catch up with them.
It had been a while since she had romped around on a mountainside, but in no time at all she was climbing the heights of the mountain. As she neared the two Azrein, she called out, "Hello up there! I was beginning to think I wouldn't find you before the sun went down."

His ears twitched back hearing a different voice rather than the one of Pheonix nor the sairys birds. It was an azrein's but where? Turning back, he saw the one that he and Pheonix left for their journey up. Now how did she easily get up here? He did see the bird-like one catch up, which was a good thing.
"So sorry for leaving you by the waters like that!" he whickered. "Will you be joining us?"

Free was glad that they heard her, and that she was welcome to join them. "Yes, by all means! I have not had this much fun since I was a foal!" You could hear the excitement and joy in her voice. It really had been a long time since she had had the chance to leap from rock to rock on a mountain side. Rhia was loathe to go anywhere near mountains if she could avoid it, so they usually stayed on the flat surfaces of roads and pathways. But Free had fond memories of her days as a youngling, chasing the other foals and colts over the sides of their mountain home. The air up here was brisk, but she breathed it in happily. Her long coat was designed to keep her warm at these higher altitudes.
"What exactly are the two of you doing up here? It must be very terrifying for someone not bred to this."

He nodded full of content. A new companion, after all, would be a great addition to the group, though he did not want to possibly upset Pheonix with just inviting this long-haired one to join them. Would she even be upset at him? Well, that was now something that they would have to deal with.
"What are we doing here?" he glanced at Pheonix then back to the stranger. "Oh, just exploring the lands hoping to find an adventure." he replied dipping his head. Maybe this stranger would be able to help him encounter the cliffs of the mountains after all. She did make it sound like this was her type of living anyways.

She was very happy to be welcomed into their little group. Although the fiery one had yet to welcome her, at least the male seemed incline to accept her. Just then a gust of wind blew past, and she dug her feet into the rocky ground. It wouldn't do to fall now, after she had brazenly announced that she was born for this sort of thing. Not that she had misled them, no, not at all. It's just that it had been some time since she had last climbed like this, and she was having to re-acclimate herself to the whole process. As the wind blew through her long fur she replied, "Well, if it's adventure you're after, then I'm more than willing to join you. Did you know that there's a legend in these mountains of a beautiful, feathered creature that upon its death, is reborn in an explosion of flames? No one I have ever spoken with has ever seen such a creature, but the legends persist all the same."
She didn't know what she would do if they actually managed to find such a creature, but it would certainly be something for Rhia to write a song about. It might even garner her the fame she so badly desired.
