Some artists paint or sing of peace...I?

It was another quiet day in lock down...tension still lingered in the air and newly promoted genin were running around either performing missions to aid the village or training. Lock down may be suffocating to most individuals but for this young artist, lock down was just the down time she needed. With tensions high she had been running missions back and forth with barely any time to rest. She can't complain though, it was all for the good of Kumogakure and if its for her village, Shizuna, as this young painter was called, would willingly dedicate herself to it just as she is wholeheartedly dedicated to her art.

Even so, a little sketching time wouldn't hurt and that's how Shizuna found herself here, in a bench looking directly at the new iHeart Medical Hospital with her sketchpad open and her sharpen pencil scribbling away to capture the beauty and darkness that standing before her. Beauty because the hospital was a symbol of life and its an architectural beauty. Darkness because of the tension and the angry or sad look on people entering and exciting the place. Seldom does she see anyone with a peaceful or happy face parting or entering such a location. She saw a few smiles but they were forced smiles used to contain the person's true feelings within themselves.

"So much anxiety..." Thought the lips of the young painter would part, no audible sound could be heard. Most would use that to assume the girl as a mute and was just moving her mouth to some particular words but to the most sensitive and acute in hearing would they hear the vague softness of gentle voice spoken by Shizuna to her art alone. That was just how Shizuna is. She speaks only to her art and a chosen few, when required, and communicate using her art for everyone and everything else.

'Hm...seems there was another kiddy fight...' Thought Shizuna wordlessly as she watched four boys get taken into the hospital; three of which each had a set of parents to direct them forward. The last one though, had the presence of a lone-wolf and his knuckles were covered in blood. While the other three cried, this one did not, he merely followed the pack into the hospital in aggravation and silence. Once the group had entered the hospital, Shizuna returned to her work. She was almost done, all that was left was perfecting the front of the hospital - the path connecting it to the main-road, the plants, etc. 'Needs a little colour...' Bringing her pencil to her lips, Shizuna gripped its middle using her lips while she twisting her body to reach into her tool pouch located on her back left hip to search for her bundle of coloured pencils. Bundling drawing tools would seem rather inefficient when it comes to a fight but for Shizuna, these were mainly tools for sketching, her main weapon should she choose to go with art were her ink and paintbrush. Struggling slightly to extract the bundle from her pouch, Shizuna's facial expression would change to fit her struggle and as her face, mainly her mouth kept moving, Shizuna's grip would loosen on her pencil causing it to roll out towards the street. "Ah..."

Hasaki Ryoukenxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"What do we say to the God of Death?"

Hasaki had just about left the hospital, when he noted something amazing, at least in his eyes. He had noticed the girl while he was being... 'detained', but he had not thought anything about her; she was just another person who's goal had not been found. Now she was creating something from nothing in the weirdest of places. This was not a place of creativity, but of healing wrapped by the stench of illness and disease. Before he knew it, Hasaki was fixated on her... or more so her brush strokes. He did not know what it was, but as he watched her hands move, he saw the scene she created overlay what he or anyone else would normally saw. His initial impression was that she just saw things differently than the normal Joe-Blow. It was not a bad thing.

Hasaki snapped back to reality, realizing that he might look like a creeper, so he decided to move on as he original intended. Besides, he knew there was going to be a second coming of idiots and weaklings soon and he did not want anyone else to be involved with it. However, as he tried to do so, he noticed the girl's pencil roll into the street. Normally, he would have just passed by, but some royal nut-job's carriage was coming. He was fast enough and close enough to not let the girl endanger herself, so he nabbed it off the street, quick as could be. It was odd, being so confident in your physical prowess in a world normally ruled by those that could control their chakra better than others; people like Hasaki still had some use after all.

So he had the pencil... how would the girl react? Would see see him as a thief? A creeper? Would she come to dislike him as others did? That would probably be the better of most outcomes. Regardless, he extended his hand to give it to her. He could only look at her eyes for a mere moment, then had to look off to the side. Her eyes showed his impression was correct, but there was something else..... she was.... cute....

Whirling back around, bundle of coloured pencils in hand, Shizuna was ready to get up to retrieve her pencil as well when another person; more particularly the boy whom she marked as the "lone-wolf" saved it from being crushed by an on-coming carriage. 'That was close...he's pretty nimble this one...' Staring simply at the boy when he turned to face her, Shizuna would watch as he looked at her for only a brief moment before turning his gaze to the side. Smiling sweetly, Shizuna would take her pencil from his outstretched hand and proceed to flip to a new page in her sketchbook.

Scribbling out a short note, Shizuna would turn it around for the young lad to read. Unable to get his attention with words, Shizuna would extend out her right hand that still gripped her pencil and poke him gently in the arm. Should the boy turn around, he would notice a simple phrase written out in delicate strokes - "Thank you for retrieving my pencil." Curiosity getting the better of her, Shizuna would then flip the sketchbook back to her and swiftly scribble down another sentence before flipping it back for the teen to read. "Are a recent graduate? I've never seen you around the village much before and I wander around quite a lot..." Gentle smile still lingering on her delicate, heart-shape face, Shizuna would wait patiently for the male's response. 'Wonder how he will react to this form of communication.' Shizuna thought indicating to her using her writing words on her sketchpad instead of speaking.

"What do we say to the God of Death?"

(( Lawlz, this reminds of the blonde girl from Needless ))
Hasaki blushed slight when he saw her smile. This was so weird. Why did he feel... it was not uncomfortable, but embarrassed? When she poked him, he tensed. His usual reaction was to swat away what touched him, but he did not this time. He sensed no ill intent from her, so he would let it slide. "Yea. I'm new, and it's no problem. Just be careful." He could not look her in the eye. Still. It was weak... stupid, but he could not.

At that moment, he heard a click far off to his left. It sounded like a twig snap, and he felt uneasy. Great. This is just what he wanted to avoid. But maybe if he was with a witness, they would leave well enough alone for now. He did not want to fight out here, at least not in front of this girl. Again, he did not know why, but he suddenly felt a little protective of her, someone he barely knew.

Some artists paint or sing of peace...I?

Inwardly chuckling at the young shinobi's blush, Shizuna saw only the innocence of someone denied affection. Closely observing the male for the first time, Shizuna saw the rough quality of his outfit and the rather stree-like style of his overall appearance. 'An orphan...' Never having been one to fault/judge someone based off their family circumstances, Shizuna kept her mind free of prejudices. Smile never fading from her face, Shizuna took his words in stride and nodded at his comment to be more careful. 'Seems he's okay with this way of communicating...that's good.'

Sketchpad turned back to face her, Shizuna was about to sketch out her response when the sound of something clicking reached her ears. It came form her right and was similar to a twig snapping. Eyes glancing towards the male in front of her, Shizuna would notice his rather tense posture as if he had an idea or premonition of what that click hinted at. Never one to openly flaunt her abilities, Shizuna decided to play the part of the "oblivious by-stander" to see if the clicking sound really would end up a threat. Scribbling onto her sketchpad, Shizuna continued on with their conversation as if she was unaware of anything strange in the air. Two new sentences would appear on the sketchpad when Shizuna turned it around for Hasaki to read - "I will...and I guess congratulations is in order. Congrats on making Genin biggrin " and under it, "My name's Miyake Shizuna, and yours?"

Hasaki Ryoukenxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"What do we say to the God of Death?"

Hasaki tried again to look at her eyes, but could not. So, he decided to focus on her lips. No... that would not do either... her... nose? That seemed to work, though he probably appeared cross-eyed for a moment. Then he read what she wrote. Something about her handwriting, paired with her artistic ability, seemed... attractive. But why would she be interested... No.... it was right to have those kinds of thoughts. "It's... nothing to be proud about." It was just Gennin rank, lowbie on the totem pole. Why would that be cause for celebration? Then he read her name: Miyake Shizuna.... His mind went blank for a second, then he snapped himself back to reality. He was acting like the first-year school boy fawning over the school beauty-queen. Time to grow up. "Hasaki Ryouken." He spoke in a calm, controlled voice, almost mono-toned.

"You first."

At his response, Shizuna would tilt her head slightly to the left and flash Hasaki a look of confusion. For him to not consider obtaining the position of Genin something to be proud about he must be one of those who overlook minor accomplishments and look only at the higher picture. Sketchbook back in her court, Shizuna saw no more room thus she flipped onto a new page. Making sure to be more efficient this time around with her use of the page, Shizuna started at the very top. 'There.' Turning it back around, Shizuna would have it facing Hasaki only to have to flip it back to her as he offered his name. Scribbling something else rather quickly, Shizuna would than present her edited sentences to the boy with a smile. "It is when this marks your first step towards becoming a value shinobi of Kumo. Don't look only at the end of the road. Each small step taken to get there is just as important." Would be written in response to his humble comment and for his introduction, the following was writting - "Nice to meet you Ryouken-san. So what are you skilled at? I'm a practitioner of ninjutsu; my main focus is Suiton." Though it was wrong to lie, Shizuna had never been vocal about her training as a sealing master and for her, seals are meant to be more secretive...a means of surprise. Besides, when she's not using seals, Shizuna is pretty much reliant on her ninjutsu so what she told Hasaki can't exactly be taken a a complete lie. Though capable of using suiton, fuuton, and hiton, Shizuna has only really put in the effort of perfecting her suiton techniques; therefore even more truth within her lie. 'Speaking of which...I may want to put some time in for hiton should the worse really befall the village and we end up in war...' A sweet smile still gracing her features, Shizuna revealed nothing of the concerning thoughts lingering through her mind while she waited for Hasaki's response.

Hasaki Ryoukenxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"What do we say to the God of Death?"

(( Psh... Miyake... being vocal? ))

Hasaki grunted. Becoming a gennin was a milestone? Not likely. No, it simply meant that now the village had a leash on you and dictated what you could and could not do with almost complete authority. But he had to start somewhere, just like the foundations of a combat style. Without a firm place to stand from, you could not do a lot that was not highly complex. That was what he hated: he was being limited because of his status. At her question, Hasaki momentarily hesitated. Here it came... This would probably ruin that pretty smile of her's. "I.. use close-quarters combat. Weapons... limbs. I can't really use jutsu that well--"

As if on que, the trio from before came about, with grins on their face. "You hear that, Shizuna-sensei?", one spoke, "Hasaki's worthless. Better for him to lea--" Suddenly, he stopped. Hasaki shot him a half-death glare. "Shove. Off." His hands clenched into fists, showing a clear message: I'll throttle you again. The trio decided it was best to leave, but not before laughing at the gennin and making rude gestures. When they were out of sight, only then did Hasaki return his attention to Miyake, with another silent message, thought surprisingly enough, it was more for her sake: He had to take the Lone-Wolf role to keep others out of his problems. He was about to ask if she would feel the same way they did, but something click. ".... Why 'Shizuna-sensei...?" He had no idea what rank Miyake was. It was rather presumptuous to claim her rank without even knowing it.

"You first."

Hisaki would grunt in response to her, well, what she considered a motivational statement. Shrugging it off, Shizuna wouldn't let his attitude about it bother her. Not everyone was required to view life the way she viewed it and to be honest, not many would see the world she sees it. Through a painter's and someone who was denied anything else but forms of art. In a sense, one could call Shizuna more sensitive an attune to the world around her. She sees things for what they are - no bias; just a subject to be painted. Nothing's black and white and its those undertones that Shizuna has been more acute at picking at and translating it into her art or for observation purposes.

When his gaze shifted down her question, Hasaki would appear "troubled" by it and Shizuna wondered if she overstepped her bounds. That couldn't really be it though as such questions came out all the time in teaching situations. 'Well...I guess this can't be really considered one...more of a casual conversation than anything...' Suppose people were just more sensitive when such things came up in casual talk. And sensitive was Hasaki, especially when it came to his inability to channel ninjutsu properly. 'So that's what it was...' Face passive, Shizuna's smile would have indeed faded but it was only because Shizuna was pulled into a moment of deep thought. 'Inability to properly perform jutsu that well...such a rare case...'

His situation was indeed unique but not something to be ashamed off. To lack in one thing is to excel in another. Before Shizuna would be able to give him written words of encouragement, someone would call out to her from the direction the snapping sound originated from. 'So it was them...' Frowning slightly at the boy's words, Shizuna had half a mind to tell write them off when Hasaki would speak out in a deadly and threatening tone. Eyes shifting to glance at Hasaki, she would notice his half-death glare and clenched fist which were still stained slightly in blood. Remaining silent, Shizuna would shift her gaze back to the retreating males who were still giggling and making rude gestures. 'Is this how youths act...if so, homeschooling was better than I thought...'

Letting out a silent sigh, Shizuna would turn back to face Hasaki only to pick up his silent message. His message was met with a small smile and nod in understanding. 'A protective stance...' The two were similar in that way. While Hasaki retracted into a solitary style of life, Shizuna took to a path of silence. He closed himself off from the world, she closed herself to her art. Eyes closed, Shizuna would expertly scribble out another message on her sketchpad. She would reopen her eyes just as Hasaki spoke. 'So he doesn't know...' Moving onto the next line, Shizuna would write down a response to his answer there. Done, Shizuna would turn it around from him to read. On it were two new statements; clearly seperated by the space left between them - "The ability to perform ninjutsu and genjutsu is not all there is to a shinobi. The greatest shinobi can make the most out of nothing. So if taijutsu and weapons is what you excel at than embrace it. Show no embarrassment at your inability to do something others can't. Those who excel at everything, excel at nothing." and "I'm a jounin and I believe I substituted for one of their classes last semester." Light cherry red eyes settling themselves on Hasaki's face, Shizuna would watch for any changes to his expression. What she was really interested in seeing was his reaction to the news of her being a Jounin. 'He's new and I'm not wearing my Jounin vest so it wouldn't be strange for him to not know of my rank. Will he take it in stride or will he pull away?'

((@Tenchi: XP; btw, I wrote her name in Japanese style - last name, than first name so Miyake's her last name. No biggie but if the kids were going to address her, they propbably would have used Miyake-sensei instead of her first name.))

Hasaki Ryoukenxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"What do we say to the God of Death?"

Hasaki was impressed, that was for sure. "You write a lot for such a small time period..." This time Hasaki was determined to look her in the eyes. His cheeks grew a little color, but he did not stray. So she would not see him as others did? Maybe he could brefriend her. The question would be how long until she got sick of him. He did notice, however, Miyake's movements. One thing about focusing on physical prowess was reading movements. She could see everything he did, subtle or not so much.

He was well aware of how his skills worked; it was like being blind: take away sight and your other senses strengthened. He knew he could beat out anyone his rank with close-quarters combat, but that did not mean people would alienate him and anyone associated with. That was the thing he tried to stay away from. He was easily strong enough to handle anything anyone could say about Hasaki himself, but he did not want others to become targets as well. As for her rank, he was not off by much. He merely nodded at her jounin rank. He took her for a chunnin, or high chunnin; she had little details about herself that gave off a sense of respect and strength in that cute, fragile-looking body of her's.

He sighed, then shrugged and sat next to her. He sat cross legged and fists pressed against his legs. He no longer faced her, but forward. "Donno what it is, but you seem... different." He did not mean that in a bad way; she was just different than others he had come across. "I just don't want others sharing what's being thrown at me. I'm use to it, but.... hounding others because of one person pisses me off." He continued to speak in his calm tone, and had no idea why he was telling Miyake this. He should have just been silent. No, he should have already left. But he was wrong about her thrice now, so maybe she was not so bad. Or she was just faking. Either way, he would find out soon enough. While racking his brain, he remembered. "You taught our class.... they sat in the middle of the room, I, unfortunately, sat right behind them. Usually slept through the lessons."

"You first."

Smiling at his compliment about being able to write a lot in just a small amount of time, Shizuna felt really happy as she worked hard to decrease her penmanship time. Being someone who is always communicating by writing, Shizuna would have to write fast if she hopes to keep up with the flow of vocal conversation. It would seem as if Hasaki had finally gained the courage to look Shizuna in the eyes and maintaining a gentle gaze would watch as he cheeks gain a little colour. Anyhow, his eyes did not stray and Shizuna would mentally applaud him for his determination. 'For someone who's been avoiding my gaze for so long now, its great to see him doing his best to maintain eye contact...guess he's yet to come in contact with a lot of people who are willing to take the time to understand him and conduct a proper conversation with him...'

The male would fall silent for a bit, most likely pondering over her words and then he would nod. Most likely accepting her second statement with stride. Smiling a bit more at that, Shizuna would than watch as he let out a tired sigh, shrugged and took a seat next to her on the bench. Twisting her upper body slightly, Shizuna would watch as he sat cross-legged and rest his fists against his legs. As he spoke, Shizuna would listen attentively and taking in his tone and words, would add/adjust to her current on-going assessment of Hasaki. 'He's rather noble this one...' With that in mind, Shizuna would flip her sketchbook back to her and scribble out something in response thinking he was done.

When Hasaki continued with a rather interesting statement about her substituting, Shizuna would pause a bit in her writing before continuing again. This time not revealing what it was she wrote immediately after finishing. Instead, Shizuna would keep the sketchpad facing her while she took a moment to recall that day she substituted. '...There was a kid I couldn't get to wake up that day...Left him alone after awhile since I wasn't really teaching much. Just wrote a few extra details not listed in the text I asked the students to read.' Turning to face Hasaki for a moment, Shizuna would than return to look at her sketchpad. 'Normally I recognize people right away but I wasn't able to peg his face to that same boy because he slept with his face down that day...what a amateur mistake...a painter forgetting even one of her subjects...'

Ripping off the page with her words, Shizuna would extend the sheet out for Hasaki to take. Once he takes it, Shizuna would flip through her sketchpad for a old sketch she once did. While she searched, should Hisaki use this time to see what Shizuna wrote, he would see a simple message - "To be able to take the bulling in stride and to only retaliate should someone else be involved is the sign of a noble character. Guess we're both different in that way. To only show anger in the face of protecting another." Locating the one she was looking for, Shizuna would turn to show her simple sketch using the basic artistic technique of shading. The picture would show a classroom of the academy from the view of someone sitting at the teacher's desk. The room would be empty cept for a single sleeping figure in the room. It wasn't a big deal but it should show Hasaki that he wasn't invincible and that Shizuna had indeed noticed him that day when she substituted.

Hasaki Ryoukenxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

"What do we say to the God of Death?"

Hasaki blushed a little. What was with this woman? Everything about her was irregular and irrational. He had been a ghost as far as everyone else was concerned: he left them alone and they left him alone, for the most part. But her... she seemed like... she cared about him.... like he was at least a little important. He was not use to that. At all. After reading what Miyake gave him, he blushed even more. He felt slightly uncomfortable now, his mind being invaded by uncommon thoughts and emotions now. When she showed him the drawing of, what he assumed was him (He did not believe in absolutes), he lightly grabbed her sketchbook and one of her pencils. He then began to scribble just above the figure's head with a thought bubble. A very crude picture of a blonde woman, dressed in Kunoichi clothes, was placed in the bubble. He handed the items back to the woman and shifted his seating, pointing his knees upward and wrapped his arms around his legs. His entire face grew red, then used his left hand to grip his bandana. "I'm not noble. I wasn't even suppose to be here. Everything that was built up by Onee got dropped on me when she got hospitalized. I wasn't even a proper human being. Wasn't able to live up to standards. My mom...." His grip on his bandana tightened. "How is a son that killed the one that gave birth to him a noble person? How is someone that could not be of use to his family a strong person?"

He spoke softly, almost in a fragile voice now. His face was completely red, and his eyes were slightly glazed but no where near about to show any tears. He had lost his ability to long ago. There had been a rumor around the village that Hasaki's mother died in child birth. In the shinobi files, there was a file for a person named Ayami Ryouken, so was a Hunter-nin. In a mission, she took a heavy hit, and was now reliant on medical care on a weekly basis. For some reason... he felt weak... open. He hated it.

Some artists paint or sing of peace...I?

Allowing for Hasaki to take her sketchbook from her, she watched as he took one of her colour pencils and began to scribble something on her drawing. Normally Shizuna would never allow for some to mess with her drawings but she'll make an exception this one time. Swallowing down the automatic irritation that bubbled within her whenever someone attempted to tamper not only with her art but any form of art around her, Shizuna maintained her outlook of absolute sincerity. When he was done, Hasaki would hand back her drawing to her and glancing down at it would notice the addition of a thought bubbled filled in with a rather crude drawing of a blonde woman dressed in kunoichi clothing. 'Hm...'

Unsure as to the meaning of it, Shizuna would raise her gaze from the drawing back to Hasaki who had now shifted into what Shizuna could only identify as a protective posture. 'He's trying to find comfort in himself...' Listening as attentively as she had been for the past while, Shizuna would remain passive and nonjudgmental as Hasaki continued to speak. Here was another crushed by the expectations of one's kin. Unlike Shizuna though, he seemed to have taken a more reclusive approach to it. 'He is burdened by it...while I threw it all away...'

She easily picked up on the changes from Hasaki's earlier tough disposition to what he was now - valunable. The fragility of his voice, the redness of his face, and slightly glazed eyes; all signs of someone feeling taken by the burden and resentment that was in one's life. Unsure of what to really say, all Shizuna really knew about life was art and the minor interaction she had with people; most of whom saw her only as a shinobi, a tool to be used to their benefits. 'Sick sister...mother dead from childbirth...and his father...?' Assuming that his father was the one whom caused so much pain on Hasaki that he was not worth mentioning, Shizuna decided not to question it. As to everything else...

Taking longer to write her response this time, Shizuna's face would show deep thought and consideration. This was a delicate situation and Shizuna must respond with the proper grace and tact that she gained through her years as an artist. Done, Shizuna would rip it and fold it. Next she would pass it to him with her left hand while her right index finger went to her mouth. A silent sign to keep it but read it later. She would than stand up and making sure she gathered all her things, would than made a gesture for Hasaki to follow. The boy needed release and this was not a good place to allow him piece of mind if his sister is really stuck in that hospital.
