“I have many things that are worth risking my life to protect, though the biggest thing would have to be my child. I don’t suppose you’re old enough to have a child, are you?” Caelian folded her arms over her chest, just watching him.
“When you finally do, though. You’ll see. They make you do crazy things, children. You’d do anything for them, just to make them happy, keep them safe. Next time you’re with your mother, you should thank her for all she gave up for you, and maybe think about what she would say if she knew you were…well. What you are.”
She didn’t seem angry now, just…well. Saying what she knew was true. At least for most mothers, that is. “I think you and I should end this silly fight now, if you don’t mind. I really…am not in the mood to die tonight.”

Oh, God Damn it.
“If I’d wanted to kill you, I’d have done it already,” Remarque replied, voice very low. He could feel heat in his ears as anger pulsed through him; his hands were clenched into fists at his side. “I could have called out my wraiths and drained you beyond death. I’m considering it, now. I wasn’t before, but now?”
His teeth were clenched though his voice was as smooth as ever. “My mother is none of your concern. You don’t have any idea of all that she’s given up for me. Of how hard she’s worked, of all that she’s sacrificed. While I appreciate your concern on the matter,” and, he clearly didn’t, “stay out of it. That isn’t your business and you speculating on it is only embarrassing yourself. Focus on yourself and what you’re fighting for. Or, better yet, just stop fighting. What are you going to do if you get yourself killed? What’s going to happen to your kid when they get the news ‘Mommy’s never coming home’?”

Raspberry eyes narrowed for a moment, but then the page just sighed and nodded. “I apologize. I didn’t realize that my words would affect you so badly.” She hadn’t meant to hurt any feelings or step on any toes. It was just what had come to her mind, and she wanted it said. The thought of not being able to come home to Millicent just about brought tears to her eyes and she nodded. “Well. My daughter nearly had to go through that. Before I became this…one of those wonderful Negaverse people you were mentioning earlier? Attacked me for absolutely no reason.”
She shut her eyes then, sighing. “So, even if I were to just stay out of this whole mess, how would that change anything? Innocent people get attacked each and every day. And if something happens to me when I’m fighting, then at least I can die knowing that I was trying to do something to make this world safer for my daughter.”

Remarque let out a gruff, displeased sigh, though visibly relaxed. He unclenched his hands and then just shook his head. “Don’t screw around, lady. There are people here, stronger than you or I. If you have one slip up with them, that’s all it takes. If you’re really that worried about your daughter, go home and take care of her. Don’t put your life on the line, not if that means she’d grow up without a mother.”
He felt a bit uncomfortable now; he was arrogant enough that he’d never considered anything happening to him. Never thought of how his mother would react, or how she would judge him for what he was doing. She would understand, of course—he could explain it to her if it ever came down to it. Jett had done a lot of bad things in life, but this? Sailor Remarque? That wasn’t one of them.
“Look. If you’re seriously dead set on this? Go make some little senshi friends or something. Page pals. I’ll let you walk away now, but if I run into you again and you’re still dead set against me and my ways, I won’t take it easy on you. Kid or not.” He lifted his hand in a gesture of dismissal. “You’re new, and not well informed. If you want to survive, either stay home or learn how to fight. Don’t ******** over your kid because you want to be a martyr.”

Caelian nodded, then took off, moving as swiftly as she could away from this strange boy and his messed up ideals. Though…perhaps he wasn’t such a bad guy, just misinformed. Who could really know.
She continued running and sighed, powering down before she got too close to home, and going in to see her daughter, happy to see the child was fast asleep. Yes, this was a reason to fight…but a reason to stay alive as well. Remarque was right about that. She had to learn how to better protect herself. Well, that would come in time, just like everything else.

Remarque watched as Caelian walked off, waiting until she was a fair distance away before he turned his back to her and scoffed. He started walking in the opposite direction as the woman, annoyed both at her and himself. He did not like when his motives or actions were questioned, and especially loathed when his mother was brought into any situation.
The whole thing frustrated him beyond belief, and the only thing he could focus on was getting home. He knew his mother worked late tonight, and that she wouldn’t be home for a few hours, still, but for some reason Caelian’s words had left him heavily desiring her presence.
He had been so focused on his work of late that he had been neglecting his mother; he had seen her in passing but couldn’t remember the last time they’d sat down for dinner, or when they’d had a good long chat, or actually done anything.
He had friends that he would go spend time with, had his work and school and hobbies. But what did his mother have? She had him, and work, and an empty home. And if something happened to him? What would she do if he was killed?
Remarque grit his teeth again; he shook his head. Caelian was just some novice, some neophyte. She didn’t know what she was talking about, clearly, so he couldn’t understand why her words had struck him in the way that they had. He’d have thanked her for reminding him that his mother deserved his love and attention if Caelian hadn’t done such a fine job of pissing him off in the first place.
