"She thought I had you in my pocket or something, I guess, since she insisted I make you appear on demand." He moved again, finally, looking down at Zac -- and his mouth slowly split into a smile, tone dropping several notches. Not a teasing smile, but something slyer, more serious. Intent.
"I could still probably catch up with her, you know." If he teleported. She hadn't rounded that corner long ago, and it seemed doubtful that she'd be grabbing a cab. "Earlier in the day than I usually like to patrol, but it might do her some good to be at someone else's mercy for once."

“If you said that in front of her, I’m sure she’d still insist that I’d fit.” He said with a bitter edge to his voice that was blunted quite suddenly by the serious tone in Ever’s voice. The suggestion that that woman be placed at the mercy of someone else, revenge of a sort, even if it was a small one.
Uncertainty for a moment then hardness in his eyes, or at the very least it could be called emptiness. A long pause for breath before he spoke again, the answer likely surprised him as well. “Do it.”

A moment's pause, then Ever's eyes widened -- like he hadn't expected that, Zac had surprised him. He didn't wait for the young man to potentially change his mind or take it back, instead shifting immediately into his uniform and shaking out his coat so that it settled neatly around him.
One hand came up in a salute, brief, a little beat teasing, and before Zac could get another word out, Ilmenite disappeared.
