Alex's smile faltered a bit. Indeed he had done too much to Yin already. Too much harm. He felt like he was trying really hard to make it up to him, but every time he offered the other boil anything it just got declined. It was more then a little frustrating for the zomboil who continuously felt like he just couldn't do the right thing no matter how hard he tried. He was just constantly saying or doing the wrong thing, and it hurt more then it probably should have.
The whistle was suddenly blowing. The train was about to start moving. Alex glanced over to the window, then back to Yin, who suddenly looked a little..tense.
"It's fine." Alex tried to reassure him, "The train ride will be fun. You'll be able to see lots of different parts of Halloween through the window, and if you have any questions about anything, I can try and answer them for you."
But right now it seemed like Yin wanted to start talking about Alex's family. That was fine with him! Anything to distract him from this hurt in his chest.
" I--I'm not even sure where to start." He admitted. "I guess I'll tell you about each member of my family separately? Since you'll likely be meeting him first, I'll begin with my dad." he decided. It was almost like he was talking to himself and to Yin at the same time. "My dad is..a big guy. Not just tall like me. In fact, he's about 3 inches taller then I am, and wide, and uh..a little slow. Not slow like me, he can outpace me easily, just a little slow upstairs." Alex tapped on his head. "Not that he's stupid or anything, he's just very simple minded, he doesn't like things to be complicated. If things get complicated, or he doesn't understand what's happening, he'll just get very quiet and not say a thing until he knows what's happening again. Other then that though, he's loud, and he's very friendly. Uh..don't be surprised if he wants to give you a hug, but maybe try to avoid it if you can..he can be a little overpowering sometimes, without even realizing it."
Well if that didn't scare the weremantis...but it was too late for him to run now, the train was beginning to slowly move away from the train station, very very gradually picking up pace.
"He's also incredibly devoted to my mom. Like, he would do anything for her, and he's stubborn so if he get's it in his head that she want's something, he'll get it for her, without even thinking about the consequences." that had caused some catastrophic circumstances in the past that Alex didn't even want to think about. He thought that about covered his dad, however, so he waited to see if Yin had any questions so far.

Attentive listening 101. Step one: eye contact. That one was easy enough to keep, even when halfway through Alexander's explanation he leaned forward, resting one elbow on his leg and resting his face in his hand as he continued to look up at the zomboil. Step two: feedback. He nodded when it was appropriate to nod, made small noise of affirmation, and raised one eyebrow at the comment about the hugs. Yeah, he really did not mind avoiding hugs from strangers.
The train was beginning to move, which was faintly unsettling for the mantodae. He resisted the urge to look around, but the motion was not particularly pleasant. In fact it made him feel slightly queasy. But that did not make him lose his focus. His dad sounded...subservient. Which meant that his mom probably ruled the house with an iron fist. The thought made him feel even queasier.
The zomboil was waiting for him to speak, and he racked his head for a question. "And your mother demands such a devotion?" Okay, so not his best question ever. But his stomach as beginning to roll about uncomfortably.

Alex was watching Yin as he spoke, and noticed that the other boil wasn't really...looking so well. Was he slightly greener then normal? He fought the urge to lean forward and peer at him intently with narrowed eyes, or to ask him if he was sick. Maybe he just had motion sickness or something.
"If the movement of the train is bothering you, try focusing on something outside in the distance that isn't moving quickly. I've heard that it helps."
Alex's stomach did a small flip-flop at the mention of his mother and asking if she demanded devotion. "My mom doesn't demand anything. She doesn't have to. If my dad so much as catches a tiny hint that my mom wants something, he's getting it for her. Don't worry too much about my mom, Yin, she's probably one of the nicest people you'll ever meet."
It was true, his mom was incredibly friendly, observant, intelligent but not in the annoying way, and when she spoke, one couldn't help but to listen to what she had to say.
"Since you brought her up though...My mom loves to be exactly that, a mom. She's small, probably a couple of inches shorter then you, but she's strong. Not like, physically strong, though she is that as well, but I'm talking more mentally or emotionally strong. She just wants what's best for everyone all of the time, and she is pretty protective of her family. You haven't even met, but I can tell you, just from talking to her on the phone, she already considers you one of us." He grinned, finding the entire thing oddly ridiculous, but his mom was going to great lengths to make sure Yin could be comfortable once he arrived. "She likes to cook, and clean, and look after everyone. She's probably going to try and feed you all day, so get used to her offering food all. The. Time."
Alex hesitated for a second, then scooted forward in his seat, so that his knees were almost touching Yin's. "You really don't look very well.." He frowned, wanting very much to just reach out and comfort Yin in some way, but not sure at all whether that would be a good thing to do.

Was there a certain weremantis that was really, really bad at admitting when he was sick? Yes. Still, he looked outside the window, and almost immediately regretted it. Why were things moving so fast? It was much too distracting to focus on something far away when everything was moving so fast and looked so foreign to begin with. He turned away, feeling even worse than before.
Listening to Alexander talk about his mother's description was odd. Yin had met enough people that others naturally respected that he could imagine what type of woman she was. Yet he also described her as doing ordinary, run-of-the-mill household chores.
Alexander was moving forward and he looked up to give him a small smile. "I believe I shall be alright. I have just...never been inside something that moved before. I simply need to adjust to this." Adjusting apparently involved a headache. He tilted his head down, resting his forehead against his hand and rubbing his temples with his fingertips.
"What...what else are mothers like?" He did not really know what to expect from the woman, and while Alexander had said she behaved as a mother that could mean any number of things. Things like feeding people at every opportunity, to calling them every day, to oh say, abandoning them as soon as they were born. And who knew what lay in between those two extremes.

The concern on Alex's face only deepened as his friend lowered his head into his hands. The food cart was approaching and Alex signalled the vendor over, asking for a bottle of water, suddenly too worried about Yin to even think about getting himself anything to eat. He drew a silver seed out of his pocket to pay for it, unscrewed the lid, and offered it to the weremantis quietly. "Here, maybe this will help? Just try drinking it slowly.." he didn't know what else to do without actually physically touching Yin, which he was still trying very hard not to do if he could help it.
He continued to answer Yin's question in a quiet tone, not wanting to hurt his obviously aching head any further. "Well, I suppose all mothers are different, but..I guess when I think of mom's I think of them as being kind, and gentle, generous and understanding. My mom pretty much knows everything about me because we talk almost everyday, whether it just be her sending me a text to see how I'm doing or if we have a long drawn out convo about what my time at the school is like. I guess that's why she feels like she know you so well already. I may talk about you a lot." His chest was starting to tighten again as he confessed that detail to Yin, though he hoped the other boil wouldn't think anything of it. He was Alex's best friend after all so it shouldn't be a surprise that Alex would talk about him to his mother a lot.
"Are you feeling any better?"
He finally couldn't stop himself any longer. The zomboil reached out and placed his cool hand gently on one of Yin's shoulders. The warmth that he could immediately feel through the fabric of Yin's shirt sent goosebumps up Alex's arm, oddly enough, but he tried to ignore it.

Yin took the bottle from Alexander, (water could not have cost him anything, right?), wondering briefly if their hands had brushed or if the bottle was simply that cold, and sipped at it gingerly. He hoped that having something in his stomach would help to settle it, and water could not upset it. Sip, sip, sip.
The description of what a mother was like was not completely foreign to the mantodae. He had seen the mothers with their daughters at market, doting on them and holding their hands as they picked out ribbons and combs. The little ghouls had always looked so pleased, so he was glad that his friend had grown up with that experience. Alexander had even bothered to talk to her about him? He felt oddly happy that he was that important to be talked about.
"The water seems to be helping, thank you. Would you like a drink?" As he held the bottle out for the other boil the wheels in his head kept right on clicking.
Alexander had told his mother about him. Forget kind, gentle, and understanding...he had said she was strong and protective. What all had Alexander told her? Had he told her about being kicked in the face? About how rude Yin was? About Yin supposedly staring at his breasts when he was a ghoul? How Yin had completely blown off their study session?
Was not his father huge and strong and would listen to whatever his mother said?
Now it made sense. Now this whole trip made sense. If he was lucky they would just dissipate him and get it over with. If not? One did not dissipate when their Fear shield failed.

Alex gave Yin's shoulder a light squeeze, pleased to see that the other boil was apparently feeling a little bit better. He then lifted his hand off, shrugged, and said "Sure," and took the bottle of water from Yin. He didn't really need to drink anything, but since it was offered, thought he should at least be polite and have a sip.
The water was cool, wet, and tasteless, just like he always remembered. Why would anybody want to drink this stuff, anyways? Oh wait...had he remembered to tell his mom to stock up on bottled water? Maybe he should phone her now and tell her...
As he was thinking all of this, he wasn't even paying much attention to Yin anymore, and brought the bottle of water up for another sip while mulling things over thoughtfully.
Ugh..why had he done that? He struggled not to make a face before handing the water bottle back to Yin.
"Oh, I forgot...if you could do my a huuuge favor and not mention to my mom any of the weird stuff that's going on at school. I don't expect you to lie to her or anything, just try not to say anything at all. She knows about the Christmas attack because it was all over the news, but she doesn't know about the hunter attacks or the time we turned into ghouls. She doesn't know that I dissipated twice or that you were training me to fight. If she did...well, she'd probably make me leave the school." he gave a little half smile, but his eyes were pleading with Yin's to understand why he needed him to do this.
"Would you like to hear about my sisters or my brother next?" He asked, turning his head to gaze out the window at all of the scenery moving past. The ickycom suddenly sprang to life to say that they would be making their first stop shortly and all passengers who were to be leaving should prepare to exit the train. "Just three more stops." He mumbled with a small smile.

'Yin had no intention of ever, ever mentioning to anyone that they had been turned into ghouls. Ever. He had rather hoped that everyone else had forgotten it, but hearing it mentioned aloud he found himself blushing at the memories and glancing around, hoping no one had heard what Alexander had said. But if his mother did not know about the training then that was one less thing to worry about, two if he counted their dispute. He relaxed a little, taking a small sip from the bottle now that it was back in his possession.
He straightened up, leaving his head back against the seat, "I shall do my best not to tell her. You are right in that I will not lie to her, but if I can avoid telling her I shall." So now he could hear about his sisters or brother? A brother sounded wonderful, but it would probably be best to get the information about his sisters first in case they ran out of time. They had to be almost there after all, Yin had been sitting forever and were they slowing down?
Then Alexander told him three more stops after the announcement came on. He started bouncing his leg up and down, desperate to have some sort of activity as he looked out the window to see what was so interesting. Too fast. "You have a brother?" he found himself saying. If they still had that much time he could push off the horrible idea of sisters until later.

Alex hadn't really expected that Yin would lie, so he figured he would just have to stick with the boil all weekend long to make sure his mother didn't trap him in some corner and interrogate him. That couldn't be too difficult, right?
The train was coming to a stop now and passengers were raising from their seats to exit the train. "I appreciate that, really. I don't want my parents to haul me out of the school..." that would really suck, and it made Alex sad just to even consider it. No more classes, no more books...no more best friend. Just life back home with horde, which wasn't unpleasant by any means, but was not what Alex wanted right now.
"Ya, I have a little brother named Nathaniel. He's only nine but he's already quite big for his age...I guess that's because he wants to be big for his age..probably almost the same height as you" Alex laughed " And he's really energetic, like..he's all over the place. I don't know how he does it..kid can run circles around me. I think he takes after my dad in a lot of ways, he really just acts like a small child most of the time and I'm not sure he's ever going to grow out of it. He can be...a little annoying from time to time. He likes to play practical jokes on people, or just be a general nuisance when he knows you are busy with something. He's basically harmless though..." Unlike Alex's twin sisters, who he was really not looking forward to telling Yin about, let alone seeing them for the weekend.
He'd leave them for last.
Luckily the whistle was blowing and the train was going on it's way again. Alex kept an eye on Yin, hoping he wouldn't start to feel sick again as the train lurched back to life and started to gain speed.
Just three more stops.

Yin frowned and nodded his agreement. Losing Alexander was not precisely what the mantodae wanted either, so he would have to be careful about what he said. He might even have a chance to use some of his old skills, how to delicately phrase things to ghouls so that they heard what they wanted to hear and it was not technically a lie.
Nathaniel sounded...interesting. One of the nice things about young boils was that they were smaller and typically did not mess with those that more than a couple of inches of height on them. So a boil who was large but still young? "So essentially he is younger, but if he annoys me too often and something...happened...I would still be picking on someone my own size?" the weremantis asked quite innocently. He would not harm a young boil, especially not Alexander's brother. But he did have a rather well-developed arsenal of tricks, and could probably use a refresher course. Training. It was all for training purposes.
Speaking of trains, they should certainly not be allowed to lurch. Yin's stomach decided that it would also lurch, and Yin was suddenly glad that there was no actual food filling his stomach. He leaned forward again, the shift in his position helping his stomach slightly and put his head back into the hand not clutching his ticket and water bottle.
Just three more stops.

Alex blinked at Yin several times, letting what he just said sink in a little, then laughing nervously. "You aren't going to beat up my little brother, are you?" He said, his voice perhaps a little strained. "I mean, sure he's a bit of a pain in the a**, but he's still just a kid. And my mom..uh..ya, just, not a good idea." He coughed, and then continued on, his voice lowering back to it's more normal state.
"Though if what you're actually asking is if you can just...mess with him a bit, like play tricks on him go get him back? Then ya, I would say go for it. It's all in good fun, right?" He said, his voice hopeful. "And I've had to get him back for things loads of times." Though it was hard to remember that Nathaniel was essentially, despite his size, quite young, so things had gone a little too far on occasion and Alex had gotten into quite a lot of trouble more then once because of it. Apparently the words 'but he started it!' didn't fly with Alex's mom, and Nathaniel was quick to 'cry' and blame everything on the closest target, which was more often then not, Alex.
"Or we could just avoid him, hang out in my room, keep the door locked." That was sounding like a better plan all the time, and not just for the obvious reasons.
Was Alex's neck starting to feel warm again? Why yes, yes it was.

"I would not hurt him Alexander," Yin said, tone slightly amused. Which meant that he was actually fairly amused, but feeling ill took quite a bit out of him. It would not be right to actually beat up an inexperienced child. He was thinking more of...side-stepping, holds that would not harm the boil but would essentially put him at Yin's mercy...the like. Training exercises. Plus, there was always the possibility that once he proved to the younger boil that he would not put up with such tricks he would stop, though it was probably just a wishful thought.
Alexander had talked about his room quite a bit, but things were just now clicking for Yin. "You have a lock for your door? And...despite having a brother the room is your own?" He understood separate rooms at the dorm as students flocked from everywhere, but Alexander did not have to share with even one other person at home? He looked up, expression thoughtful. A room with a lock and no one there except for him and Alexander? An escape from the zomboil's family? This sounded...perfect. He grinned, the very idea of a haven making him feel a little bit better. "I believe I would like that. We should certainly keep that option open."

Alex was relieved to hear that Yin wasn't actually intending on hurting his brother. The thought of what his mom might do if Yin, I don't know, say kicked Nathaniel in the face? It was not a pretty mental image, and it ended in one very dead weremantis.
No need to say anything to that affect and scare the other boil though, so he kept that bit of information to himself, fairly confident that his mom would have already told his brother to be on his best behavior. Whatever that was worth....
Alex was a little taken aback by the next question, and had to remind himself that where Yin came from, he had to share a space with many other boils. "We have a fairly large house. Well, the main rooms, like the living room, dining room, and kitchen are all very spacious. They're all on the main level. The upstairs is where are the bedrooms are. None of them are big, except for perhaps the one my parents use, but there are several. More then enough for our family and any guests that might stay, though the empty rooms aren't exactly furnished." What need was there to furnish them, when everyone who ever spent the night didn't sleep?
"So I guess that's why mom set my old room up for you, since it's at least got things in it, including a bed now, apparently." He still found it a little weird that there was going to actually be a bed in his room. He hadn't ever had use for one before, and his dorm in Amity had come with a bed that he sometimes would lay down on, like he would to read on the couch at home on occasion. He supposed his mom had done it so that Yin could have access to Alex's books, computer, and television without them having to buy and put all of those things in another room as well.
"The door has a lock on it mostly to keep..uh..Shae and Ava out." Nope, did not want to talk about them.

"She should not have just for me," the mantodae said rather uselessly. "I am sure I could have found a perch somewhere, or simply slept on the floor." It flustered him to be reminded of what they were doing to make this trip possible.
It would have been nice if that worry had distracted him from the comment about the sisters. But Alexander was not that lucky. "Shae and Ava? Are they your sisters?" Yin wished that the zomboil would say "oh of course not, they are our minipets and are somewhat nosy," but he had the sinking suspicion that he would not. His stomach seemed to agree with the general air of doom and gloom, reaching out tendrils of queasy-ness to remind him that he was on a train. He took another sip of the water, wishing he could drown out the unease he was feeling.

Alex's eyes took on very pained expression. He did not want to talk about the twins. If anything was going to make Yin jump out of this train at the next stop and walk back to Amity, it would be because of what Alex had to say about the twins.
So should he tell the truth, or just leave some things out about them? Maybe a mix of the two that wouldn't be too overwhelming? He really had no idea how to talk about them in anyway other then distastefully.
"Yes, they are my sisters. My twin sisters. They're only a year younger then me. They're...uh..small, but you'll never see one far away from the other. If you are approached by one by herself and you don't see the other, it's a trap." He blurted that last part out then had to clamp his mouth shut. It was obvious he had strong misgivings about Shae and Ava. He had no doubt that eventually Yin would find out why, but Alex didn't want to talk about it himself.
They were just simply evil, and that was all that mattered.
"I mean..." he laughed a little, and reached up to run his hand through his hair, letting it flop back down over his eye afterwards then clearing his throat a bit. "They're just never alone, so if you see one without the other, it means the other one is hiding somewhere nearby, and usually not for a good reason?" Yes, this was getting very bad, very quickly Alex was terrible at glazing over the truth.
"You know what, Yin? I'm going to make it easy for you. Just stay as far away from them as possible. At all times. You can even RUN and I will not be in the least bit offended if you do. They don't move all that fast." Faster then Alex, but not that fast. "And if they ever get you backed into a corner somehow...yell for help."
This conversation was a complete disaster from start to finish, and to top it off, the ickycom was blaring to life once again to announce that they were approaching the next stop.
Just two stops left.
