Ves'tacha looks at Aras, gaze appraising. "You are the first to ask so very politely. It is interesting. You have given me enough of worth that my name may be given without debt. I am Ves'tacha."
He was indeed interesting. The careful way he requested her name made her raise her estimation of him by several degrees. Perhaps a short journey with him wouldn't be too bad.
Ves'tacha found herself smiling for no good reason. She was still careful in the placement of her bandaged hoof. It barely registered as pain at this point, but the wrapping didn't hold traction as well on the icy ground.

Aras smiled, happy he had a name to put to her face; even more happy that she trusted him enough to give it. First to ask so politely? Who had asked rudely? How? Why? Not his place to ask such questions, of course, so he kept them to himself.
He looked down at her leg. "You're a lot stronger than I thought. It doesn't seem to be giving you any trouble; except the bandage. I'm glad."
Aras caught her smile and mentally chuckled. It seemed she wasn't as stubborn or headstrong as she made out to be, either. She'd accepted his help twice, given her name and was now smiling and enjoying herself in his company.
What a turn of events; a turn for the best, of course. He would've helped her either way, but it's easier to do when the one you're helping isn't grumpy and hating it every step of the way.

Ves'tacha looked down at her hoof. "Mostly it was numbed by the cold and poultice you put on it seems to have aided as well. I'm used to walking all day and ignoring pain if I have to. Compared to walking gravid with foals, this is nothing."
Realizing she might have sounded a bit too dismissive, "But I do appreciate the assistance. My footing is not particularly stable at the moment and I would not care to slip on the ice."
"I was heading towards a resting place I remember passing through a few years ago just off the trail here. Though I do not recall how much farther it is, I can make it that far. As long as I have that as a goal, it is easy to push the pain into the back of my mind."

Aras pursed his lips. "I wouldn't sleep a wink if I left you on your own. I'll guide you to this resting place of yours and then take my leave."
Walking while pregnant? He couldn't imagine it. He'd seen one pregnant mare in passing and she was huge. He was glad he was a male and wouldn't have to deal with that.
"You have children?" He asked, keeping conversation moving. "I'm hoping to have some of my own in the future. Maybe I'll finally settle down in one place for longer than a few days. If my mate has anything to say about it I'm sure I will. At least until they're old enough to travel with us."

Ves'tacha's expression warmed with a smile. "Ah, yes. Two, a boy and a girl. And nothing like what I expected. But they are wonderful."
Peering ahead, "I believe it is just past the next bend in the trail. I do not wish to keep you from your mate, I am sure she is worried for you." Ves'tacha picks up her pace a bit, though she is still somewhat slow.

Aras smiled. "Were they a handful?" He wondered what it was like raising foals. He'd seen the way he and his sisters acted and the sighs of frustration his mother sometimes gave when they weren't listenig to her. He wondered if all foals were the same.
"I often travel for a few days looking for new flowers to plant at home, she's used to it." It was true, though he had been gone for a few days and should be heading back shortly. "Don't you have a mate of your own that's worrying about you?" He asked, curiously. The notion of two soquili breeding together and not being mates was foreign to him, since he himself had only been around mated couples.

Ves'tacha shakes her head with a smile. "Lucian and I enjoy each other's company, but we are not mates. I am Roma and the road always calls. He is gaje, and has a family and herd of his own. Our offspring have been raised with both traditions and have found a balance of their own."
A slight darkening of her eyes might be simply the reminiscence of a distant time. "My foals were an adjustment for me. They were very good with each other, but they were strange in many ways. I have never been a very superstitious mare. I wish now I had listened to those who warned of liaisons on all hallows eve under a blood moon. I love my children. But their lives are not easy."

Aras kind of understood, in a way. The call of the road.. the thought of new places.. He would feel bad for claiming a mare who did not like to travel, for he would either leave her on her own and make her miserable or stay with her and be miserable himself.
Warnings? He had not heard such warnings, though he wasn't much for stories that weren't sung to him. Perhaps he could make up a song about the warnings of such events. "At least they have you and their father, yes? I'm sure that made it a lot easier on them."

Ves'tacha smiles sadly. "I believe it did. They always knew they were loved. But what of you and your mate? Do you not yet have foals of your own?"
As the pair rounds the bend, Ves'tacha hobbling slowly along, a clear area near the road that has obviously been used as a place to stop and rest by many before, appears between the trees. "Ah, here we are. You won't be burdened with me much longer."

Aras smiled. "Not yet. We're enjoying the world right now. Children will come when they do and we'll be pleasantly surprised, but we're in no rush."
Aras eyed the clearing; it seemed comfortable enough, as if it would provide enough shelter. "You weren't a burden. It was a pleasure to assist and enjoy your company."

Ves'tacha smiles, "You are kind. I was a grouch. But I do appreciate your help."
With a slight quickening of her step, knowing the end is near and she can rest, Ves'tacha nods at his earlier comment, "That is the way of children. And it is good not to rush, to know each other first. I wish you and your mate all the blessings of the spirits. I am sure young will come when the time is right. And you won't be able to remember life without them."

Aras shook his head. "You had every right to be a grouch with that injury." He looked up and noticed their destination was close now.
"Thank you. I must admit, I'm very excited about starting a family with her." His eyes brushed over the clearing once more and he pursed his lips. "Will you be okay by yourself?"

Ves'tacha nods with a smile. "I will be fine. Thank you again. Go, before your mate starts to worry for you."

Aras smiled at the mare. Even though they'd only spent a short time together, he felt like they'd grown to be friends, even if not the best of. Either way, he'd helped someone and he felt good about that fact alone.
"I wish you the best. Good day, Ves'tacha."
Turning, he walked back down the path, tail swishing. He began to sing happily, his voice filling the air and fading out as he moved further away from the clearing. Where he was going next, he wasn't sure. But the mare had a point. Perhaps it was time to visit Chepi.
