This was awesome, he was like freaking invincible. The trainee turned back to look at Reine-

- only to see her flailing from the mobs respawning way too fast. How did he lose aggro so fast as a tank? Quickly, the mist trainee took action, doubling back to grab a hold of his party member. He was grinning like a maniac the entire time as he pretty much plucked and pulled her arm and then the rest of her body away from the shadowy masses of nothingness.

Slowly, Justin pushed the mobs back as he backpedaled out of the dungeon, placing Reine back on the training grounds grass. He crossed his arms. "Dude, next time tell me if you're too low level okay, we can find something easier to kill, you don't have to prove yourself to me or anything."

Reine spent a few seconds flailing and screaming before she felt a hand closing around her arm, noooooo was it some huge boss monster going to eat her-- but it pulled her away from the swarming shadowlings instead. This was ridiculous, it was just a training course and she'd survived worse missions before...

It took a while more for her to recover- Justin had been doing just fine and he'd run in blindly, how did that even work.. Reine was tempted to consider it fool's luck, but what if he was just better than her?

Too low level... She couldn't even be angry at him for saying that, but she was definitely not going to 'find something easier to kill'.

"Let's.." she coughed, trying to sit up on the grass. "Let's do another run."

General Information
The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.

If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.

If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.

    Mechanics
  • roll 1 d10
  • check for hp loss and death
  • decide whether or not to use your bonuses
  • if you survive, repeat.
  • roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are!
  • -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd

    01. horrible death
    02. - 50% HP
    03. live
    04. live
    05. - 50% HP
    06. - 50% HP
    07. horrible death
    08. - 50% HP
    09. live
    10. horrible death

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.

(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

  • Trainees: 1 flag
  • Death Trainees: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Hunters: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Death Hunters: 1 flag + 2 instinctive moves

"That's the spirit!" Justin held on to Reine for a second longer just to make sure she had replenished a bit more of her mana and HP before striding down the path. Oh look, there was another dungeon entrance, this was super exciting!

He ran into it -

- Only to be stopped by a sign.

'All Deathsweeper participants must enter through a type C Golem'. What did that even mean - maybe he should have pulled up the quest log and read this one more carefully.

Regardless of everything else, the trainee hopped onto the pathway and down towards the arena. Oh look at that, a few empty tiles. He stepped on one and then another, giving Reine a thumbs up and entirely missing the fact that a giant axe had just appeared out of nowhere to nearly miss him.

He was holding on to her, wait, what, Reine's face coloured slightly as she pulled away from him. She didn't need to be held, okay- except maybe she actually did, because she had to struggle to get onto her feet when he let go of her; it took her maybe two more minutes to catch up with him, only to see him disappear into the deathsweeper room.

Without a golem.

"Wait Justin--" The rest of that sentence was lost in a coughing fit, and he appeared to not have heard, because he clearly wasn't waiting. With a sigh (and a few more coughs), Reine entered a pod, the golem appearing just in time for her to see him almost get sliced in two by a huge axe.

"Justin get out of here, you need a golem!"

Reine took an experimental step towards him, only to have poisoned arrows shooting at her. She managed to evade the worst of them, but one lodged in her arm, the burning pain almost unbearable. How he had survived, she wasn't even sure. Weakly she grabbed Justin's arm, attempting to lead him out.

Justin finally noticed the axe. "Whoooaaah did you see that axe? That was freaking awesome." He continued to babble rather excitedly and nonsensically, something about frames per second and latency as Reine pulled him out the arena not a second too late.

It was then that he also finally noticed that his partner was looking rather worse for wear. "Oh man," Justin visibly cringed, for a second looking considerate and reproachful," I am so sorry, I should have brought heals with us." A little more aways from the training course he put on a thoughtful expression and pulled out from one pocket a roll of toilet paper, offering Reine a sheepish smile as he handed it over to her. "Errr all I could find in the guild vault were these lousy beginner bandages, better than nothing I guess?"

"That axe almost killed you," Reine practically yelled at Justin. If she were tall enough she'd try to shake some sense into him, but all she could settle for was punching him as hard as she could- which wasn't really very hard, considering her current state. But maybe it would work, right, after all she'd punched Robert a few times and he'd gotten it.

This wasn't fair, how was it that he did all the stupid things and still looked completely fine, when she'd just been following behind him and okay, the arrow had only hit the golem, but Reine could still feel a rather disconcerting numbness in her arm. She could feel tears welling up in her eyes, and she wasn't even sure why, maybe whatever pride she had as a hunter had been completely shattered by Justin. She caught him cringing, even, what was that supposed to mean, was he looking down on her; Reine was positively seething by this time, should have brought heals---

You think?

She was that close into bursting into tears and yelling at him when he stopped abruptly and pulled out a roll of toilet paper... had he been carrying them all this time, seriously, what was wrong with this boy? The life trainee simply stared at him, her rage dissipating when he said they were bandages, with that sheepish smile on his face.

The look on her face was inscrutable as she took the roll of toilet paper from him- her mind was working in overdrive, trying to process all the available information and come up with some sort of explanation for his behavior, but she was drawing a blank. Sighing, she tugged at his jacket sleeve, pulling him along as she walked towards the life division labs.

"I know where you can get better bandages." Better than toilet paper, for sure, even if they were experimental and sometimes had strange effects.

Yeah sure, the axe might have "killed" him, but walking back to his body had never been a hassle to him. Justin gave Reine a peculiar look, just in general at how angry she seemed, until he finally, finally understood it.

This girl was a serious gamer.

Suddenly, everything made sense. Why she was so upset at every action, why she hated getting hurt, and why she was in general kind of a spoilsport. Well, in theory he was a serious gamer too, he just tried to make things a little more fun for everyone but oh well, to each their own. It was good to accept all sorts of players for who they were.

Justin put on his best equally serious face to show that he was indeed listening. "Yes, better bandages, of course, why didn't I think of that?" Serious gamers were tricky to deal with, but he knew exactly what to say. "This is just an alt char of mine anyway, sorry if I wasn't playing seriously."

bandages stolen from liz
FIRST AID

Since the Infirmary is part of the Lab building, there are numerous bandages to be found throughout! However...this is the Lab building so some of them are slightly experimental.

Crayon Bandages
roll 1 d4
1: It burns! You lose 5 hp
2: Your skin turns a nice shade of purple and gain 5 hp
3: You fall in love with the first person you see ((whoever posts directly after)) for about fifteen minutes.
4: Fully healed!

Princess Bandages
1: You laugh so hard you cry, and lose 5 hp
2. Your skin begins to sparkle and you gain 5 hp
3: You think you're a princess for the next half hour.
4. Fully healed!

Cars Bandages
1. You run as fast as you can into a wall and lose 5 hp
2. Your skin begins to glow. Now just a healthy glow, but like a goddamn glowstick. But at least you gain 5 hp.
3. You make car sounds after every sentence for the next hour.
4: Fully healed!

Reine gave him a look in return, as if to say 'when have you ever thought'. He'd pretty much run straight into everything, and.. fair enough, she had the habit of doing that as well but... but okay, she just didn't like that a complete newbie was better than her, not that she was going to tell him that. His ego probably didn't need feeding anyway.

Alt char, yeah whatever, Reine was so done with you, Justin, or she would be but she hadn't beaten him yet. The mist trainee had no idea what he was in for, probably, Reine wasn't going to let him go until she beat him or until she fainted, whichever came first. Bandages first, and then.

"I wasn't playing seriously either," she retorted. Reine knew those kids who studied the whole day and scored As but said they hadn't touched their notes at all, she bet Justin was one of them. Pulling open the door to the life labs she headed to one of the cupboards and took out the box of bandages.

"Take your pick."

"Of course you weren't playing seriously, of course." Justin smiled, nodding a bit to himself, understanding entirely. He visibly brightened at the sign of bandages though, picking one up to examine it-

- Before peeling it off and slapping it on one arm. He looked down at the arm again. "By the way does it just heal your HP or also your mana, because I think some of my skills are still on cooldown and-"

- That was when Justin paused, and took a good, a good look, at Reine for the first time. The strangest expression passed over his face, a sort of cross-eyed smile, as he casually leaned over, closer, a little too close towards the other. "You know what I love about your eyes, when I look deep enough, I can see my own reflection."

Reine nodded, as if to convince herself, if she had been serious and if Justin hadn't been running head-first into everything, spoiling her non-existent plans, they would have totally aced those training courses. She was so sure of it, and so distracted by her own daydreaming about beating him at training courses that she didn't pay any attention to what he was saying until his face was right in hers.

'You know what I love about your eyes--'

Wait, no, Justin, Reine wasn't ready for this, why was he leaning so close all of a sudden, and was he complimenting her, she couldn't even tell. Just the proximity had her cheeks flushing bright red, and instinctively she reached out to Justin.

With her fist.

She stood watching him helplessly for a while, then grabbed another bandage and stuck it on his other arm apologetically. Yeah, Reine, that was a nice thing to do to a guy who actually said something nice to you, punch him in the face.

"I.. I'm sorry, I didn't.. mean.. um. I.. like.. your eyes too?!"

There was an audible crunch of something as the Mist trainee reeled back, tried to refocus his eyes, and then leaned back over, just as persistent as he gave Reine another wide grin.

"My eyes are my best feature, next to my gear and my dps, and dkp kill points of course." Perhaps, in another world Justin might have actually looked charming, if his nose was seriously not gushing blood from Reine's little outburst. What was a little more startling was how Justin seemed to ignore it entirely, focusing entirely on the Life trainee. "So how about you and me go finish this quest line together? I'll even let you touch my hotkeys."

So much for her concern, Justin seemed completely unfazed by the punch, grinning happily at her, even if he was bleeding pretty badly.. Seriously, what was this guy made of? Reine couldn't help but smile back at him, even if it was somewhat strained, he looked ridiculous right now.

How close he was to her mattered less than the blood on his face, but Reine pushed Justin away again, though far more gently this time. As he rambled on about his gear she stood up, looking around for a first-aid kit of some sort, and came back with some wet gauze. This time she was the one leaning closer to him, dabbing at the injury she'd inflicted on him in an attempt to clean it up.

What was the term he'd used for this?

"Heals first," She tried. This felt so awkward. "And then we can, uh, finish the questline." That just meant more training courses, right?

"Don't underestimate me," she said seriously. "I'll touch all your hotkeys."

Was, was this how Lady Jaina Proudmoore felt when she met Thrall for the first time? Was this how roleplayers in Goldshire felt when they interacted for the first time - what, what was this strange feeling, this warmth in his chest, he could just listen to Reine talk on and on about heals and-

- wait a second. Touching all his hotkeys?!?! She didn't mean.... all at once did she? Justin may have suddenly decided that this girl was possibly the most beautiful person he had laid his eyes on but she wasn't that beautiful, all things considered. "Wait, wait a second." He visibly backed up, just slightly, especially considering how serious she looked. "You're... not really going to touch all my hotkeys are you?" Another step back, just to make sure. "I mean, you'd pop all my cooldowns at once"

Absolute horror. How could she even live with herself even threatening to do that to another player?

Reine still hadn't the faintest idea what they were really talking about, but apparently Justin didn't like all his hotkeys touched at once. And she was really beginning to feel like this was some euphemism, this thread of conversation taking on a distinctly do-not-want edge to it. What did popping cooldowns even.. mean?

The life trainee was possibly regretting her words, but the look of terror on his face, even if she hadn't intended to get that particular reaction out of him, made her feel more excited than dismayed.

"What if I am," she taunted, moving one step closer for every step backwards he took. "I don't think you've quite learned the way things work here, Justin.."

It felt almost like stalking prey, and Reine was enjoying it. Maybe this was the breakthrough she'd been looking for, the key to 'fixing' him, now that she had something to threaten him with. "The rules are different from what you're used to, I guess" she continued, staring at him. "But if you start playing by them maybe I'll reconsider..."
