Couple of things I don't think I explained properly in my first post. The program is being presented by one of our News Readers, rather than the normal entertainers. So it is being adverised as more of a documentary than a reality show. Secondly, it is on at 11:05pm. So no small kids can find it as they flick channels. smile Sorry for not making that clear at the beginning. http://www.channel4.com/health/microsites/A/addiction/heroin.htmlThat's the main website for the program, if you want to have a look FawN. smile

We never had speakers come in to my school to talk about things like this when I was in high school. Though coming from such a small town I think that my old school was a bit behind on the times, because even then there were things that other schools did that we didn't do.
Now that Toni is in school, if they are going to have a speaker come in for anything at all, the principal sends home a notice letting the parent know and gives the option for the parents to sing the slip refusing to allow the child to attend. I wish we had those kinds of options when I was in or, and the same opportunities. That being said, when she gets older, if they decide to have a speaker come in to discuss drugs, she will be going. Just not now when shes only 7, and surely wouldn really understand it biggrin

Well thats the second episode finished.
It seems they are focussing more on the medical side of what drugs do to you and what they do to your body. Same with coming off them, they are telling you what your body goes through.
Then to reinforce it, they are showing you how the people are doing.
Tonight at midnight however, they are being given their last dose of sedatives. So after that they will know exactly what's happening to them.

MysticfawN And these are voluntary participants right? They know they're on the show, and they're ok with that.. Yes. There are only three of them, and they are in a purpose built facility on the premises of a detox centre so noone else is caught on camera by accident. They wanted to do it so that they could tell everyone and show them what they've been through. They want to try and prevent others from going through it too.

I myself have concerns about exposing people's lives the way they do. Although I agree that it's good as a teaching tool, I always worry when it'll be decided that the candid filming of people (ie, without the subject's permission) might be benefical for the purpose of education, never mind entertainment. Maybe I'm being too suspicious, but there you have it! rolleyes
