Hah. That showed hi--- even as Before went crashing into the floor, a stray ice-crystal ricocheted back up at Reine, hitting her right in the eye.
Ouch. OUCH. A hand went up to her eye reflexively, rubbing it; she was even tearing up. Reine wasn't sure if she should feel proud, to know how effective her attacks could be..

While Reine was preoccupied with her eye, Before got to his feet. His body felt numb where Reine had struck him with those ice crystals and there was a painful pounding in his head. Mostly from where his partner was roaring herself hoarse for him to stand and attack!
Nnng, o-okay... he grimaced, shaking his head for a moment before he rushed the Lifer and struck her with his larger, heftier weapon.

Before seemed to have recovered faster than her, because just as Reine looked up, the wheel smashed into her again, knocking her off her feet.
She had no idea if it was her getting weaker- or maybe that was what his weapon's effect was- he was hitting harder than he had been. Reine coughed as she tried to get back on her feet. Well, this was embarrassing- she thought she'd gotten off to a good enough start.

Go! Proceed with a follow up, silly Before! Vanna happily cheered her partner on. Before seemed reluctant to hit someone when they were down, especially a Lifer. But this was a spar, and Reine did ask him for one, and he supposed he should be taking this seriously. Just as the girl tried to stand, Before swung low, this time the spikes cutting into her feet.

The life trainee swore when she felt the spikes digging into her skin, dragging lines of blood across her leg. In retaliation Reine slashed back at Before with the jagged edge of the blade, returning the 'favour'. Wincing, she stood back up, trying to force her mind away from the pain.
She could last through this, she could, just a little more..

Reine yelped when Before poked her in the side, uncomfortably close to a tickle; she immediately put some distance between them by stabbing at the offending hand.
If he was going to play dirty... she would end him. Reine growled, narrowing her eyes at Before.

Before raised his hands behind his face, unfortunately the movement also caused Vanna's spikes to possibly graze against Reine. "Okay! Okay! But being ticklish isn't a bad thing," 8C he reasoned from behind his wheel.

She refused to justify that with a reply, no, being ticklish wasn't okay, he clearly didn't know how much pain and suffering she had gone through before, but if he was going to insist...
She could 'tickle' him with Alynthe.
Except it would feel more like a stab.

To Before's credit, he wasn't complaining about getting beat up. If anything he was... accustomed to it. So his response to the stab? Stepping on her foot.

It was as if he'd given up on the fight, resorting to things like tickling and stepping on her foot, and Reine was getting more and more annoyed, this was not how you sparred, and she had expected more of an intermediate trainee.
Angrily she slashed out at him again, hoping to get him serious about the fight- at least as serious as she was being, but..
Before fell over, bleeding.
Reine took a deeeep breath.
