He looked at her, clueless. "Erm.. we could head back to the others? I keep wandering off, maybe we should stick with them for a bit?" He smiled, thinking that his cousin may get annoyed with him if he kept running off.

Returning his smile, she nodded and started to walk, her head, however, wasn't paticularly clear and she was still wondering what was wrong with Dhati. Shaking her head mid-thought, she simply kept walking, hoping to find the others soon, so they wouldn't be cursed for their wondering.

Dhati was happy to be heading back, Mataka seemed weird now and he was scared of something about her, he would talk to his cousin after all Haiji would no more about girls then he would, he was a strange naive boy.

As a alpha, now that she was old enough, she had to notice things and keep an eye out for the others in her pack. It was also a matter of responsibility and care. She couldn't let her packmates down by not picking up something that might cause problems later on.

And so she was well aware of the time Dhati and Mataka were spending together... alone. And she had noticed them go off again today. Well, they were obviously fond of each other, but more fond than they were of the rest of the pack? A sort of couple? Haiji knew how these things worked... roughly. Her mother had explained alot to her and also told her about a father she'd never seen. A few weeks comfort had grown into something much more.

She was lost in these thoughts, laying and resting after a hard day's traveling, and so it felt as if no more than a few moments had passed when the other pair of dogs came back into view. She stayed where she were though, not wanting them to think she might have been waiting around for them.

As the slender female continued to walk, her eyes widened as she noticed Dhatis cousin, she felt a slight bit intimidated, as well, she was the alpha and obviously had a lot of power. Was she angry with her? Had she done something wrong? She held her breath, looking to Dhati curiously.

A smile appeared on the males face and he ounded over to Haiji, "Ah cousin, I have somethings I would like to discuss with you." He suddenly looked serious, after all it was a serious thing to talk about. He tilted his head slightly, his brown eyes watching his cousin. He sat down in front of her, one of his ears flat on his head listening to Mataka, before he turned to look at her, "Come on, we must tell Haiji!" He smiled again before turning seriously back to his cousin.

Haiji looked up when they approached, ear flicking back for a second. "Hello you two." She glanced at Mataka and saw her looking to her cousin. So something was going on... perhaps they'd come to say something to her? And then she wouldn't have to ask.

"Something to discuss?" She looked expectantly at him. "What is it you must tell me?"

He looked at Mataka and smiled, "Yesterday I was out wandering and I bumped into someone, not a wild dog, but good as one. He seems eager to be against the rest of his speices and is around here somewhere as I accepted him into our pack. After all a cub can't do us any harm, that and it means we will at least have some protection from lions, if we have one." He smiled, his tail wagging behind him. "Mataka has met him as she bumped into us, the youngster could be a valuble part of the pack for protection, stop the past from repeating itself." He finished his sentence with a huge smile on his face though expecting his cousin to not be pleased.

Matakas eyes widned as she watched the two converse. Her mind was still elsewhere, however, and her eyes held a glazed ghostly look. "Hmm?" She said, as Dhati addressed her by name. Nodding happily, she grinned and look back to Haiji. "Yes, He seems really sweet!" Pausing to think of the young cub, she began to nod again. "And he isnt like other lions!

Listening, Haiji's confused face turned even more concerned as Dhati's tale unravelled. "Bumped into some one who wasn't a wild dog? And then accepted him?" She repeated and quickly sat up, looking at one and then the other. "What is he then? Manned Wolf? Hyena?" Surely they wouldn't have invited a hyena in the pack, they had a very nasty reputation.

But she hadn't expected him to let slip that it was a lion. He didn't even come out and say it straight off either, which was disappointing in someone who was acting as her partner in the alpha position.

"So he's a lion?" She practically gasped before getting herself together. "What are you thinking?! And protection? What protection? He's a cub! He wouldn't provide any protection while so small. No, he'd be just the opposite! Why, what if his mother comes looking for him? Or even the rest of the pride he belongs to! They'd slaughter us for taking their young!"

Dhati listened to his cousins outburst, he had indeed expected it. "Haiji, the cubs mother abandoned him and he is no harm, he don't like killing. Think about it Haiji, if this pack is going to grow against lions then we need to know what one is like. This is the perfect way to, he is a cub yes but he will grow. We can learn from this, it isn't like you have to tell him all our plans, just look after him till he is old enough to do what he wishes." He was being serious, more serious then he had ever imagined being especially over a lion but he thought that it would be better for the pack to learn then to go around being naive after all, knowledge is always better.

He then turned to look at Mataka suddenly feeling sorry for her. She didn't need to get dragged into this, he really was an idiot, a real big idiot. He then turned back to his cousin. "Think about it Haiji, we bring up a lion cub, we are always on the move and in not too long if he has come from a pride or not his scent will change and they wont know it, that and he was left by his mother, I dont see her coming after him, ever." He was slightly annoyed that his cousin didn't see his point of view, she would though, she had to! It made perfect sense to him at least.

"How do you know she's abandoned him? Why would any mother abandon their young?" As a wild dog and with such close family relationships such an act was hard to believe possible. "You can't be sure of that and you can't be sure his pride wouldn't find him before his scent is covered by ours. Even then that would only happen by being constantly close with us. I suppose he's already close to you two." She looked at Dhati and Mataka. The young pair seemed to be doing their own thing together. And apparently adopting young lion cubs seemed to be one of those things.

Standing she began to pace back and forth, head down and thinking hard. "Dhati... I don't know what you think this lion will provide the pack. Protection? Would he fight with us if need be? Or so we can learn about him as an enemy?" She sighed and paused to look over to her two packmates. "I don't really think we are growing against lions. Sure I don't like them and I wouldn't trust them an inch. But you make it sound like you want to overturn them?"

"I only want it so we have a place together, with each other - that we can thrive ourselves. If any lions, hyenas or anything else get's in the way of that goal, then I would fight them and be ruthless about it. But I'm not starting this pack to start a war." She returned his serious gaze. "This reforming isn't about revenge. It's about re-establishing our place."

The alpha female sighed. "How old is he then? You know... a pack is about loyalty. If you really want him to be a member, then he becomes one of our brothers..."

Dhati looked at her. "Cousin, the youngster doesn't even like meat. Lions aren't like us they do abandon their young so do other animals. It isn't unusual." He then looked at Mataka, "I was the one who brought him not Mataka, dont blame her. I understand your points and I don't want to over turn lions, its not possible Haiji they would kill us all."

He licked at his leg suddenly, not any rael reason to, it just needed licking. He then turned back to her. "This isn't a normal lion cub, you dont have to trust him but even if he is a lion he is alone and would you leave a small pup out to die? You would be leaving him to die. He is young, very young. We can teach him what he needs to know and he can go off when he wishes. At least meet him before you judge him." Dhati wouldn't do anything that Haiji didn't wish but at the same time he didn't want to leave the small innocent cub to die. He was compasionate even towards lions, even if the stories about them weren't nice.

"I'm not blaming her..." Haiji said in a low voice. Dhati was being to irritate her now. Honestly, she'd only looked at the other female and he was getting overly protective about it. What was going on? And anyway, if she had nothing to do with bringing the cub here, why was she sitting here in this conversation?

Haiji deliberatly turned her head away from Mataka then, since Dhati seemed to want her focus on him. "Doesn't like meat? Maybe he's sick then? I know we'd care for our own if they're ill but that could be why he's been left. And I wouldn't want him to endanger the pack in that case. You do know of the plague that tore through these parts not so long ago? Either a plague or a pride might endanger us if he were to come along. You'd have me risk Mataka, Ujuzi, you and myself?"

But it was his next comment that really struck a nerve. "I didn't leave him to die. His mother did!" She snapped. If he was trying to make her come round by using guilt and blame then he'd better think again! "Like I said, the lion's a danger. You would have me put his life ahead of the pack's?"

(( While Haiji is acting unimpressed by Dhati inviting a lion to join the pack, I have nothing against it myself. Why not a lion eh? whee You just need to talk her round ic. wink And say... if Mataka's having pups.... she could be its foster mother of sorts. Just an idea. sweatdrop ))

"I think your being unreasonable. The cub is definatly not ill nor is he a threat, he is a cub for goodness sake. You say one minute that you dont want to fight lions what are you doing now Haiji? Your fighting a cub!" He wanted to snarl, why was Haiji being so stupid? His brown eyes narrowed slightly and he wished to say something harsh though he knew it would do no good. "Give him a chance. Thats all I ask, meet him for goodness sake. You dont judge someone by their speicies for goodness sake, you would look at a wild dog and welcome them happily but a welcomed wild dog could do alot worse then a small lion cub."

He then turned to Mataka who he felt sorry for, they had been playing so nicely and now this was happening! He turned back to his cousin, he wasn't playing now. He thought she was being unreasonable and out of order. "He is staying Haiji. You aren't risking anyones life but his, you are judging him before you know him because he is a lion but yet you didn't judge either me, Mataka or Ujiza did you? No. You were all to happy to see them. He looks different, so what, he is harmless and he wants to be our friend. He has no one Haiji, no one. What harm would he do us?" Dhati was truth be told close to fighting his cousin, he didn't want to but he was getting annoyed with her behaviour.

"Haiji, right now you are actually the youngest here. You are the youngest in the whole pack. Leadership means wisdom and it also means not judging before you know someone. Think about it Haiji, if you would rather run from a lion cub and leave it, makes you a bit of a coward really." His tone of voice had calmed alot as he said the last sentence. He was plotting in his head how it would all work if she was too stupid to see how stupid she was being. His respect for his cousin was dropping an awful lot.

((Mataka would make a good foster mother...
heh.. I dont think Dhati will do too much talking round.. he doesn't like talking, well he does but he also thinks fighting is good as well to sort things out. Silly boy.))
