All Imara could really do about that first part was listen, as she wasn't the sort of lioness who just made comments or sounds to prove she was paying attention. People should just assume she paid attention to what they said! But at least the cub seemed happy enough just talking away.
"A pride... not too far from the pridelands." At least it hadn't been, at the time. "Then it disbanded, and I was a rogue." She didn't know what the Pridelanders thought of her old home, and she hardly wanted this cub blabbering up to the wrong person and getting her in trouble, or something! "Then I came here."

Dayo didn't know the meaning of the word disbanded, something that might be evident from the blank stare. When her brother Sar used big words she didn't understand she usually ignored him, or pretended that she knew, or tried to bite him if he was being really obnoxious. But this time she really wanted to understand. She understood what it meant to be a rogue since his father had lived like that, but she couldn't understand the transition from being in a pride to... not.
"What does disbanded mean," she asked. "Is it something bad? It can't be totally bad since you ended up here."

Imara would frown, but she kind of already was frowning, because he frown was nearly permanent at this point. Almost, anyways! "Disbanded is pretty bad." She said, and seemed for a moment rather sad, aside from just unhappy.
"It is when the pride breaks up. There was a plague, people fled." She had been surprised she hadn't gotten sick, actually. "But yes, I am here now. It is ok." Well, not totally ok. She still missed her family, and her pride, but she would be fine. Imara was always going to be just fine, even when she wasn't.

Dayo could have lived without knowing just what kind of bad it was for a pride to disband and her ears folded back as Imara told her. She had picked up what plague meant and she knew it was something scary. And even if she hadn't known she would have guessed from the sadness that seemed to radiate from the dark lioness. She padded closer to the lioness, snuggled up to her side and gave her a gentle head butt.
"It's gonna be ok," she said, trying to offer in the only way she knew how.

That was very strange, and as such Imara did tense up a bit when the cub just... snuggled up right to her. But she had the good sense to not move away, or push Dayo away, and instead stayed put, looking down at her, confused. It wasn't that the contact was unpleasant, it was simply entirely out of the realm of things the dark lioness was used to.
She figured that, at least, as far as things to get used to went, this was a pretty good one. "Yes. It is." She agreed quietly, not quite knowing how to respond.

Dayo wasn't sure what to say, so she finally shut up and just leaned against the lioness. It was kind of nice and she had always thought that snuggles were the best kind of comfort. She closed her eyes and almost fell asleep for a few moments but the sound of her mother calling woke her up.
"Oh," she said, "That's my Mom, I got to go!"
She ran as fast as her short legs could carry her, but then stopped in her tracks and bounded back.
"I'm Dayo," she chirped, "Nice to see you and see you later!"
