Elle was a rare soul, confident enough in herself not to feel put-off by the complete lack of signs that she was liked. She figured that maybe Asch was just annoyed with everybody--it couldn't be just her. She was too awesome to be irritating.
"Of course you don't!" she exclaimed, a grin on her face. "A strong guy like you? I'm sure you can handle anything by yourself." She twirled one of her own curls with a finger. "But you know," she murmured, "I am surprised that a handsome guy like you is so gruff."
He clearly took pride in his appearance--it just didn't make sense how he shoved her compliments away.

Elle was certainly unique in her take on Asch's... attitude. Most people were turned off by it or simply tolerated it. She didn't seem at all phased and just continued as if they were having an extremely lively conversation. It was weird and still suspicious. He had his reasons for acting the way he did though.
"What do you want from me?" Asch then asked in an abrupt manner, fixing his suspicious frown on her, and completely ignoring her last statement. There was no way that all this... attempt at flattery, was for no reason.

Elle just stared at him. "What? Why would you think I want anything from you?" She blinked, confusion written all over her face. "Do I have to want something from you to compliment you?"
She really hoped that everyone wasn't this paranoid and suspicious. I mean, sure she wasn't above using a little flattery to get what she wanted--everyone did that, right? But she didn't really want anything from Ash--except maybe to find a crack in that grumpy, standoffish exterior of his.
"Maybe I'm just being nice. Or maybe I really do think you're handsome, or that your hair is marvelous." Elle raised an eyebrow at him. "And maybe you should stop frowning before your face gets stuck like that. It'd be a pity to ruin such a nice face."

"Most people use flattery when they want something," Asch stated matter-of-factly. Which was certainly true, it was not an uncommon practice. Judging from his reaction, it certainly had been used on him before.
He grunted a little and looked away. Maybe she was being genuine, but he couldn't really be sure. But her next comment drew a huff. "Don't be stupid. Its not going to get stuck." Why was this all about him anyway?
"Why do you talk so much?" Now turning a question back on Elle in hopes to change the subject.

She used flattery all the time. It was fun, and most of the time she meant what she said...if in a roundabout way sometimes. And maybe she did want something--but was wanting to be on good terms with the people she met a bad thing?
"I don't think I talk that much," Elle said. "But I figured that eventually I'd find something that you'd want to talk about too. One-liners are kind of dull, and I know there's got to be more to you than that."

Asch's deadpanned as he listened as he considered this. Perhaps it was this lady's way of just... making friends or something. There certainly seemed to be no reason to get hostile. Huffing again and looking out at the pool to watch the Vaporeons, he wasn't really sure what to say.
"Then what do you want to know?" He asked bluntly. If she wanted to know more about him, then fine. Although there was certainly no way he's going to spill his entire life story to her. That's probably not what she had in mind anyway.

Elle's face lit up like a Christmas tree. Asch wasn't so bad after all...maybe a little rough around the edges, but not bad.
"The usual, I suppose, you know, what you like to do, interests and whatnot. Maybe why you're here at Rocket HQ. Those are always interesting stories." She knew he probably wouldn't answer the part about HQ. Not honestly, at least. But still, the stories were good--even if they were fake.

The last time someone wanted to know all about him, was when he'd first met Kunai. It certainly couldn't be any worse than that. So, might as well tell Elle what he'd told her.
"My main interest is in swords. I can also cook and I've never cut my hair other than regular trimmings. My instructor brought me into Team Rocket when I was 10 years old, and trained me until I was of age to become a grunt."
He sounded more like he was reciting something from a bio entry on the computer. But she had asked and Asch wasn't one to get into intimate details.

Ten years old, huh? Well that would explain a lot. Elle figured he didn't get much of a childhood if he was raised here. The motto alone was heavy stuff for kids.
She stuck her feet into the pool, her now-dry hair falling forward over her face. "Swords are elegant weapons, but I can't imagine they're altogether practical," she mused, kicking her feet and sending cascades of water towards Vesper.
"So what will you do when your hair gets so long it tangles up your feet?" she asked, a grin on her face.

"They're more practical than you think," Asch replied. Sure they were archaic, there was no denying that, but in the right hands... a sword could be effective against someone who even wielded a gun. "Besides, I can use fire arms also."
However, his frown returned with renewed vigor at Elle's next question. "I don't intend for it to get -that- long," he replied indignantly. He wasn't stupid. That's why he trimmed it after all, to keep it from getting too long too fast. His hair was fast growing but not so much that he couldn't manage it.
"Your hair must be well maintained also." This observation coming from the fact that she indeed have nice hair. But not only that. The fact that she enjoyed complimenting his hair meant that she must have an appreciation and pride for her own.

"I bet anything's useful in that regard in your hands, as long as you've been trained." Practical swords. Elle didn't know what to make of that, except a vague sort of agreement. She hadn't seen blades in action before. And firearms...well, she knew she'd need to get used to them. She could shoot. Just not very well, or with any sort of enthusiasm.
Elle laughed. "Well I would hope not! It'd be hard to do your job with your legs all tangled in your hair."
She nodded solemnly. "It is. I have a whole drawer full of hair stuff." She poked at her hair, limp and straggly from her previous dousing. "Not that you could tell right now, but I usually keep it styled. It's really a shame that I got drenched before you could see."

Asch had actually found himself in the most trouble when he didn't have his sword. That being the reason he'd got injured that one time. If he had brought the weapon with him, that could have been prevented. There were times he still mentally kicked himself for that. Now he didn't go anywhere without it. Either on his person or held by his unseen Zoroark.
Elle's joke didn't draw much of a reaction from Asch, but the comments about her hair seemed to get his attention more. "I can tell by the quality," he remarked. After all, healthy hair that was well taken care of had a certain look and sheen to it. Didn't matter if it was styled or not. Besides, Asch certainly had his own share of bad hair days.

Elle practically beamed. Anyone would could tell how well she maintained her looks was just golden in her books. "I guess it's rare to find two people who really appreciate proper hair care. Especially here--I've seen so many people with gunk in their hair here and they don't seem to care!"
Maybe those people had just come from training, or missions. But Elle wasn't thinking about that. She was just horrified that they'd let their hair get in that state in the first place.

"That's true. Not many people here have the same appreciation for their hair." Sure.. he knew several girls around the base that liked to fix up their hair, but more often than not.. they were often not pleased with it or took it for granted. Most people were not happy with what they had. Or simply ignored what they had and didn't take care of it.
"But, I don't let my hair get in the way of doing my duty. It will get messed up and dirty from time to time. Get use to that."

Elle nodded. "I suppose I won't have much of a choice, eh?" She laughed softly. "I'm sure I'll be fine," she lied. "I can tough it out, for sure."
Elle was positive if she managed to get some sort of gunk in her hair she'd flip out completely. But Asch didn't need to know that.
She wondered, not for the first time, if she'd really be able to succeed here. She had wanted to choose her own fate, and she had. But this place would challenge her in ways she had never predicted. She had a steep learning curve ahead of her.
