Nicholas had, as had been rightly assumed, been sleeping through everything. He didn't hear the order, but felt the slight shock that went through the table as it was kicked. Inhaling sharply, he shot up, blinking rapidly to clear his vision, before looking up at the person next to his table.
"Yes?" he asked, hoarsely as he ran a hand through his hair, as his eyes flickered to the other boy joining the first, before swiveling to the blackboard, where the young woman was now writing "Class Rules Discussion" in swirly cursive letters, catching a least some semblance of what was going on, "Ah, class rules?"
Michiyo's eye gave a slight twitch at the shortening of her name, brow furrowing slightly with irritation. Michi? Really? she thought, standing up as slowly as she could, closing a book with as loud a thud as she could manage, What are we, pals?
After stuffing the book into her bag, she swung it over her shoulder and manoevred her way through the classroom. She knew the Nicknamer of course. Even if she wasn't particulairly interested in sports, she was still in the loop of who's who, and everyone knew Ricky. Since she hadn't been paying attention during the introduction, she only knew the other boy she'd been paired with by name. She sat down at small cluster of tables, tossing her bag on the table, "Right, let's get this over with quickly." Coming up with rules for the class, how useless.
Roan slowly moved over the group she had been assigned to. It didn't matter much to her in which group she was, as every other member would be as unknown to her as the next. Nevertheless, she checked them out of the way over. She knew their names, of course, as they had been introducing themselves not moments before, and they looked friendly enough. Her two teammates were already chatting cheerfully by the time she reached them, and she hesitated for a moment by the table. "Hello," she greeted finally, her voice soft, but calm and confident, before sinking down slowly onto the seat, holding her bag in her lap.

Eunice's heart skipped a beat at the mention of working in groups. She would probably be forced to move away from the door, as well as forced to socialize with the other students. She knew that was the whole point of groups, be that didn't make her despise them any less. She looked down at her desk and sighed quietly, already gathering her things with nervous hands. She stood up and hugged her books to her chest, slinging her backpack over her shoulder. Shifting her weight nervously from one leg to the other, she waited to hear who she would be placed with.
When Miss Liv rattled off the names, her eyes darted around the room at the other students. She knew them all by sight and name, but past that, she was completely out of the loop. When it appeared that everyone was gathering around the desk of the boy named Nicholas, she started walking tentatively towards everyone. What she wanted more than anything, was to sit there in her little world, writing the rules all by herself. It never bothered her when others mooched answers or let her do all the work. In fact, she preferred to keep her nose down and let the others entertain themselves while she worked diligently the entire time, all by her lonesome. When she finally made it to the group, she gave them all a furtive wave.
"Hello," she said quietly before continuing to stand there awkwardly, waiting for someone else to make the next move. She tried not to make eye contact with them and kept her chin tucked down.

"Hi," he greeted Eunice. "Let's pull some desks together so we can finish this already." Trevor grabbed a desk, pulled it closer to the previously sleeping boy's, and took a seat. "And try to stay awake for the next five minutes bright eyes," he addressed Nicholas. Eunice seemed to be the only one with books in hand, so Trevor asked her to jot down their ideas. "I gather you don't want to present so I hope your handwriting is legible." his words directed toward Eunice.
Trevor noticed his tone was less than playful. Earth's sole satellite approaching full, being responsible for the aggression. Not the best first impression. He tried to relax by slouching and exhaling slowly. His temper would become more difficult to control over the next several days. Now he addressed all the members of the group, "Any ideas out of the ordinary? Since that's what I think Miss Liv is looking for."

Ricky nodded at Austin, "It went by really quickly."
He remained in his relaxed position as Michiyo joined them. He looked up at her and opened his mouth to greet her, when she tossed her bag roughly on the table. He frowned a little and wondered what caused her to have such a bad mood already. It was only the first day of school, what did she have to be pissed about? When she spoke in a tone just as irritated as her actions seemed, he frowned.
"What's the rush? We've got a couple hours at least," he shrugged his shoulders, "So who wants to write?"
Rey looked down at Nicholas, surveying him through his shaded lenses still. When Eunice approached he looked back up, his fox tail flicking slightly, "No need to be so shy there, Twinkles."
When Trevor seemed to take charge of things, he frowned behind his shades. He noticed the other young man's slight aggressive tone, and then the calming breath as he sat in his seat. He tilted his head for a second as he continued to watch, but then averted his gaze and threw himself into a seat of his own between Nicholas and Eunice.
"Cool it, Sparky," he addressed Trevor, "No need to order us around, we're capable of taking care of ourselves. We understand the assignment just fine," he clenched his jaw a little before answering the question, "We only need one rule... No rules."

Austin jumped when the book bag landed on the table. He frowned a little as he watched Michiyo take her seat. Judging by her tone of voice, she wasn't the type of person who liked social interaction. But it wasn't his place to judge others. Everyone has a reason for acting the way they do, and he was certain that whatever reason Michiyo had, it wasn't his business to butt in. He looked up at Ricky as the other boy began talking.
“If you don't mind, I can do the writing,” said Austin as he got out a pencil and sheet of paper from his bag. “Let's see...the first rule...” He pondered a bit as he tapped his pencil against the surface of the desk. “Well, I think the first rule should be, “'Don't ever pull Austin's tail.'” He grinned as he said this, then his face quickly became serious. “That wasn't really a joke, by the way. Please don't ever touch my tail, if you know what's good for you.” He promptly scribbled it down, then waited for the others' input.
“Hi, Lavi!” Aella was incredibly gleeful when her friend sat down next to her. “I took some amazing pictures of Greece over the summer! I'll show them to you later!” Aella couldn't help but feel ecstatic. While most students dreaded the beginning of the school year, Aella saw it as an adventure and an opportunity to make new friends. In her excitement her wings began to flutter, but she managed to catch herself in time. “Whoops! That was a close one! Don't want stuff flying around like last year!” She giggled happily, then suddenly noticed Roan sitting across from her. The other girl was so quiet Aella didn't even realize her presence at first. “Oh, hi, Roan! Didn't see you there! Well, the gang's all here, so let's start writing down some rules!”
The first thing Murielle saw when she lifted her head was the bright color of pink assaulting her eyes. She clenched her jaw as she examined the petite figure before her. She had no idea who this girl was or what she wanted from her, but she had such an air of annoyance around her that Murielle could already tell that she wasn't going to like her. She glared at Juliet for a bit before returning to her reading. When she looked up again, she saw the girl hadn't moved an inch from her spot. Murielle could feel her knuckles whiten as she gripped her book.
“I'm reading Dracula, which I want to finish without any interruptions,” said the young Kelpie with a hint of a Scottish accent in her voice. She turned in her seat and away from Juliet, hoping the pink abomination would get a hint and leave her alone.

Nicholas gaze shifted only briefly to the girl that had joined their group, giving her a slight smile before starting to root through his bag for his thermos. He only paused momentarily in his search to send a half-hearted glare at Trevor, wondering if this was a new record in how long it had taken for people to comment on his sleeping. It wasn't as if he did it for his own pleasure, he thought darkly as his hands closed around the thermos and he extracted it.
With a grin he took in the aroma wafting up as he opened it and poured himself a cup. Double espresso. It didn't work long - he seemed to have build up a tolerance for it over the years - but hopefully it would work long enough for him to actually function for the group. He watched with clearing vision as the two other guys in the group started to argue about the rules. He didn't really have an opinion, as he would probably break a lot of them by sleeping anyway. "I don't care," he voiced out loud, voice still a bit hoarse, "I probably won't notice if anyone breaks one or not anyway."
Michiyo shot Ricky an incredulous look. A couple of hours, was he serious? "Actually, I've got something better to do with my time than come up with silly class rules, so I'd rather it not take 'a couple of hours', if you don't mind," she told him, not necessarily annoyed but at least a bit exasperated. It was fine for him to be all gung-ho about this, but she still thought it was silly and a waste of time.
She shot the other member of their group - Austin, if she recalled correctly - an amused look as he made up the rule and wrote it down. If the teach' wanted them to discuss them later, she sure as hell wasn't going to read a rule like that aloud. Deciding it might be best not to voice this out loud, she reclined in the seat, balancing it on its two hind legs. "Alright," she muttered, sighing slightly before grinning, "I say that attending class should not be mandatory." That should save her some trouble if she stayed away.
Roan just looked on calmly as the enthusiastic girl in front on her went about her vacation. When Aella addressed her, she just nodded in reply, before placing her bag next to her chair and fishing out a piece of paper and a pencil. She started doodling around the edges while she waited for the others to chime in, as she had no real thoughts about class rules, besides the usual, commonplace ones, which she assumed would already be upheld.
"Do you know any?" she finally asked, her voice still calm, pencil now hovering above an empty bit of paper to take down the rules as they thought of them, as it seemed the quickest method.

”Sounds good.” Lavi grinned at the young Pegasus’ enthusiasm, looking forward to seeing the pictures she’d made over the holidays as he thought her to be a really good photographer. He wrote down the word ‘rules’ in large, capital letters at the top of the page and underlined it. This sounded like an easy enough assignment, but he wondered whether they had to think of class rules themselves because their new, provocatively-dressed teacher was too lazy to think of any. Whatever the reason, he didn’t mind at all, glad that they weren’t being made to jump back into boring studies the moment summer holidays had ended. In the meanwhile, Roan had joined them at the table and he glanced up at her with a smile as she greeted them softly. He wasn’t at all surprised that Aella hadn’t seemed to notice the new addition to their little group and he chuckled amusedly as her out-of-control wings almost swept everything off the table.
“Well, that’s definitely rule number one…” he started scribbling on his notepad, glancing up at Aella now and then with a small grin. When he was done, he held the notepad out in front of his face and cleared his throat before he announced his rule formally. “If your wingspan is greater than 7 feet, please make sure to keep those feathery appendages in check at all times before you take out somebody’s eye.” He ended with a firm nod.
“Oh, I see…” Juliet pouted slightly at the other girl’s words and behavior, tightening her grip on the book and staring at her back for a few seconds before turning around on her heels. That had been a rather short, less than amiable conversation and the blonde wondered if she’d said something wrong. She didn’t think she’d come on too strongly as she knew she had a tendency to do, all she’d done was show an interest in her classmate’s reading preferences. She glanced over her shoulder at the Scottish girl and childishly stuck out her tongue a little before canvassing the room for other people to talk to. The book wasn’t due to be finished any day soon, so she wanted to use this first day of school to get to know the other students a little better. She spotted two of the girls talking to each other by the bookstands and was about to step towards them when she noticed one of the girls her twin brother at a table nearby.
Juliet maneuvered around the tables towards the one the boy was sitting at and gracefully slid onto the seat next to his, her small wings folding to lie flat against her shoulder blades so they would not catch behind the back of the chair as she sat down. She placed her bag at the foot of the table and laid down the book in front of her. She started flipping through it as if she was really planning on doing anything with it. Clearing her throat a little, as he seemed to be concentrated on his reading, she smiled sweetly at him. “Hello. Your name was Kyle, right?” Sixteen, Football Team, Welcoming Committee. Likes to surf. She rattled off what he’d told the class during introduction, and what she’d written down in her little pink notebook, in her mind. It was hardly enough information if she wanted to find out if he were compatible with anyone, but that’s why she was there.

Kiah had been reading through the summary of a book series she probably wouldn't have time for when her ears twitched, rotating in the direction of someone's skipping. She took a few seconds after being poked to finish her reading, hating to be stopped in the middle of something, but still able to concentrate. Tucking the book under arm possessively, she turned to the girl she hadn't seen for most of the summer and gave her a bright smile. "Hey Mizaka. It's been awhile." Since they'd been on vacation for the summer, Kiah hadn't had a chance to visit the Buttercup Cafe to hang out with everyone.
"Nothing's really up with me. Same old, same old," Kiah waved her hand dismissively, grinning at Mizaka's scowl when asking about Kyle. "He's as cocky and annoying as always. I think you had fallen asleep as soon as he started bragging about how great a surfer the ladies thought he was." Rolling her eyes in the direction of her brother, she saw Juliet walk over to him, making her grimace a bit. "Oh geez... Anyway, how have you been?"
Flipping through his book randomly to find one of his favorite parts, Kyle had watched the exchange between Juliet and Murielle with a bit of amusement, trying not to get caught watching. Secretly, he'd been hoping for a cat fight, but when the blonde girl started walking toward him, he couldn't hardly complain. He pretended to continue reading while taking his feet off the table, not thinking for a second that it might look a bit suspicious that the book he just grabbed was open to the halfway mark, and waited for her to come to him.
Kyle waited for her to say something, trying his hardest to keep the smirk off his face at her attempt to slide in next to him and act natural. When she tried to get his attention, he instantly snapped his book shut and looked at her with a charming smile, brushing his hair back a bit to show off his scars. I know her name... I know it... Oh! "That is correct, miss Juliet. Did you need something, or were you hoping I would be your Romeo?" he asked, wiggling his eyebrows a bit. Obviously Kyle had no idea that his cute blonde classmate was trying to get more information, and instead believed that she was one of his many admirers.

Trevor bristled at Rey's remark. He did all that he could to avoid eye contact with the fox boy. It would have sent him over the edge. In a few more days, a provoked outburst on his part might be inevitable. He crossed his fingers it wouldn't come to that. Another two years flying under the radar would not help his social skills. His once silver tongue seeming to have already begun to bronze, from lack of use. Trevor grit his teeth, shifting his jaw side to side. He would most likely have to avoid Rey for some time, just to be safe.
The aroma from the contents of Nicholas's thermos jarred Trevor from his building ire. Although, he knew the caffeinated beverage inside wasn't to his liking, the scent was still enjoyable. It also distracted him from the full impact of Rey's useless input. Nicholas didn't seem to be much help either. He only hoped Eunice would be of some assistance.
Maybe the arcade... he mused about his post-curricular activities.

Eunice was elated when Trevor indicated that she wouldn't have to present their rules to the class. She was perfectly content to sit there quietly and write. When Rey told her to sit and used that nickname on her, she became flustered. She knew he had to be referring to her sparkling horn, and that made her very self-conscious. She shakily pulled her pen and paper from her bag as she took her seat, dropping her eyes downward as she leaned over the paper. She listened to the two canines start to spat, but she kept out of it. She didn't write down Rey's idea though, because she knew that it was ridiculous to suggest there would be no rules. She chanced a glance at the third boy as she heard and smelled the thermos. She wasn't a fan of coffee herself, so her nose wrinkled slightly before she looked back down at the paper. She stared at the empty lines, waiting for the silence to break. She gave a light sigh as she shut her eyes tightly, to calm her nerves.

Ricky raised his eyebrows at Michiyo's obvious attitude. He wondered what she was so grouchy about. It was obvious to him that she had woken up on the wrong side of the bed, and for some reason that bothered him. Being that he normally was pretty relaxed, her uptight attitude rubbed him the wrong way.
"You don't have to be so uptight...what's the matter?" he asked with genuine concern, masked by his chill attitude, "I don't think we'll be allowed to skip classes, but I dunno...the way Ms. Liv seems already, I think anything could happen," he laughed, and it almost sounded like a short bark.
Rey sensed Trevor's increasing irritation, and he completely returned the sentiment. He figured it would be fun to mess with the other young man though, so he didn't let on that he was all too bothered. He leaned forward on his elbows and smirked a little, flashing his teeth for a second.
"Oi Sparky, snap out of it...the rest of us are trying to do our work, and you're daydreaming," he prodded, before leaning back in his seat again, "And you're making Twinkles nervous, look at her, she can't even take her eyes off that paper."

Rey interrupted Trevor's brief respite from the flowing culmination of his fury. He had hoped that the daydream would help ebb his rising anger, letting his mind process the emotion in the background. The fox would not allow this. His fists slowly curled while his pupils dilated. Trevor's reaction brimmed with feral angst.
Through gritted teeth, the lycanthrope spoke, "'Sparky?' Coming from you, isn't that like the pot calling the kettle black? Or did your feeble mind not think that far ahead?"
His entire body tensed. He was approaching the threshold of his control. Less and less could Trevor suppress the thought of striking Rey down, to quell his inner strife quickly. More and more the idea sounded appetizing. He began to relish the thought. Unlike his current persona's motif, repercussions were the least of his worries. The feeling was liberating.

Austin's long ears began to fold back on the top of his head. It was a habit he had developed whenever he felt annoyed or slightly aggravated. Right now, he felt a mixture of both emotions. Michiyo's attitude and Ricky's clear dislike for her behavior were obviously starting to cause sparks between the two. The last thing that was needed was a fight between them. Austin bit his lip a little as he watched the two teenagers bicker. He was just about to voice his opinion on the matter when Ricky laughed at his comment on the way Miss Liv might handle the class. Mentally sighing, Austin began to relax and hoped that this was enough to settle the current dispute between them. One of his ears suddenly stood erect and twitched to the direction of Group 3's table. Two of the boys seemed to have started arguing and, judging by their tones, it didn't look like this was going to end quietly. The young Tailypo gripped his pencil as his long tail began to twitch wildly. Since when did fights ever solve anything?
“Heeeeeey!” Aella pouted and stuck her tongue out at Lavi. “It's not my fault I have big wings! It's genetics! That's it, Lavi; we're not friends anymore!” She crossed her arms and turned away from him, then started giggling. “Just kidding!” She turned back around with her usual smiling face and began to ponder on what other rules they should write down. “Hmmm...how about...Always come to class with a big smile on your face!” To elaborate, the young Pegasus put the tips of her fingers on the corners of her mouth and smiled. That smile, however, quickly faded away when a realization hit her. “Oh, wait...I don't think everyone will like that rule...” She turned her attention to Murielle's empty seat, sighed sadly, then quickly turned back around to face Roan. “What about you, Roan? Got any ideas?”
Mizaka scoffed and rolled her eyes.
“So he still hasn't grown a brain yet. No surprise there.” She crossed her arms and leaned against the bookshelf. “Nothing much has happened with me, either. Spent most of the summer working. Gotta get money for food and rent, y'know. Although I think bought more cat food than human food this time around. The damn beast eats as if it's his last meal before the execution.” Mizaka frowned at the thought of her pet cat. Lately he's been acting more like a roommate who doesn't pay house rent rather than a pet. She saw Juliet sit down next to Kyle and smirked a bit. “This outta be good...” She let out a small groan at Kyle's “Romeo” line. That has got to be the most painful thing she had ever heard...

Nicholas watched the tension mount between the other two over his cup of coffee, sipping in while his eyes darted back and forth between the two, with growing exasperation. It seemed so useless to him, wasting precious energy on ridiculously petty arguments.
He really did not want to get in the middle of this, but if someone didn't say something to defuse the situation it looked like one of them - or possibly both - would need a trip to the nurse's office. While he didn't care much for either of the two, he would probably have to get up, move, answer questions about what happened, and all that jazz, which would just be a tremendous waste of energy he didn't have. Besides, their female partner was staring a hole into her paper and looked wholly uncomfortable.
"There, there, now folks," he finally muttered lazily, though loud enough for the group to hear. He kept his attention on his coffee while he spoke, "I hardly think this little spat, eloquent though it is, warrants this much attention." He let out a sigh, glancing briefly at the both of them, "Let's finish this assignment quickly and then you can have your 'broadswords at dawn' duel for your honour." After a quick look at his watch, he amended, "Though considering the time, you would have to settle for broadswords at eleven."
Michiyo rolled her eyes, letting her chair fall back onto four legs sharply. She had thought that with her – granted not very serious – suggestion for a rule that they could finally get on with it. “I'm not uptight,” she answered simply, not defensive in the least, “Like I said, I just think this is waste of my time. That doesn't make me uptight, that makes me bored, and perhaps slightly annoyed.”
She was actually surprised to hear him crack a joke about her rule after that. It was true, but she had pegged him for something of a teacher's pet, besides being a teenage boy, and hadn't expected him to find any fault with their new educator.
“I could be in luck then,” she commented lightly as he barked out his laugh, her eyes glancing over at their other teammate, whose attention was on another group. She scanned the table as well, wondering what had caught his eye, but couldn't find anything particular. Sitting up straight and clearing her throat, before resting her head on her hand and sending Ricky an questioning look, “What are your bright ideas for rules then?”
Roan was lost for a moment as Lavi pulled out his own notepad, glancing down at the one in her hands – half covered in doodles by now – which was useless. She quickly recovered, gripping her pencil tighter as she continued to fill the other half in with drawings as well. His rule was quite clever, and before she could remind herself to stay passive the corners of her lips quirked up. Her teammates seemed to get along well, and it was easy enough to keep to herself.
Roan couldn't resist a snort at Aella's rule. For a moment she imagined herself walking into a classroom with a beaming smile, and it looked ridiculous. Also, the sudden change was bound to inspire questions, which would undo all her work to keep a low profile.
This was not to be however. “I haven't given it much thought,” she admitted when Aella asked her. She briefly glanced up from her doodling, pencil halting on the page. Her voice was still soft, “I suppose... Don't bother those who don't like to be bothered.” With a slight nod, the pencil started moving again.
