Why did I choose the Rockets?

The streets were dark as he walked along, trying to push back the thoughts that were trying to consume his thoughts. The words 'bully', 'abuser', and 'tyrant' were on constant repeat. It had been three days since his pokemon had collapsed in the arena and the abuse started coming his way. As if he didn't have enough of it coming his way since that day in the forest a year ago. It seemed like everyone that had ever had issues with him had come out against him; bringing up talk of old fist fights in the dressing rooms that hadn't even been initiated by him, stating that they knew something was wrong with him, that his aggression towards his pokemon came from being forced to keep quiet about his sexuality. What did it matter if he was gay or straight? And of course someone had to mention his reaction when he had been called out as a sixteen year old as an example. It didn't matter if he had tried to mature passed it, that night seemed to want to haunt him nearly as much as that damn forest.

Now he noticed the looks people were sending him as he walked down the street. Moms pulled their children off to the side, out of his way, as they passed by. As if he'd attack them if they got too close. A rain drop fell against his face and he sighed as he kept walking.

He heard footsteps behind him but ignored it, hoping whoever it was would leave him alone and go about their own business.

"Hey, kid!" So he was wrong. He sighed once again and turned to face the guy behind him.

"Y-yeah?" he asked hesitantly. What did this guy want that he stopped him in the middle of the sidewalk. The man's lips pulled into a harsh smirk as lighting lit up the sky. He felt the blood start to run cold as the man stepped closer to him.

"I heard you like beating up innocent little creatures," the man spoke as he stepped close enough to tower over the smaller man.

He felt his heart start to pound as someone grabbed him from behind and held his arms behind his back. "I don't know what you're talking about. I never touched her!"

He heard cruel laughter coming from the man that was holding him hostage as the first hit went straight to his rib cage. He gasped for breath as the man in front of him grabbed him by the neck. "How's it feel to be beaten, little f**? Huh? Not so fun when you're on the other side huh?!"

He let out a scream as the man's fists continued to connect with his body. His ribs, his stomach, his face, even his groin were subjected to the vicious hits. When he started to feel like he was going to pass out, he felt the arms that had been holding him tight shove him to the ground. He tried to get to his feet and made it as far as his knees as he heard the loud, boisterous sound of laughter as the men walked away. He tried to pull himself up further when a man came out of the near by alleyway wearing a familiar black uniform with a red letter R emblazoned on the front.

"S-s-top!" he called out as loud as his weakened throat would allow him.

The grunt looked down at him with a sad look on his face before the look turned to contempt. "What do you want?" he sneered.

His vision became blurry as blood started to seep down his eyes. "W-w-where do I....sign up?"

The grunt looked over the broken body of the young, blond man at his feet and smirked. He threw the blond's arm over his shoulder and helped steady him before walking down the sidewalk. There was always a place for new recruits after all.

Set after....Is It Supposed To Do That?, Shopping Run In, and The Moonlit Desert

After they had gotten the small janitorial closet cleaned up from the mess that had been caused by the machine and the fire extinguisher, Rory had got back to his room to collect his toiletries and a change of clothes before going to the bathroom to shower. Most of the powder had been shaken off but he could still feel it in his hair and on his skin. He ended up spending nearly forty-five minutes scrubbing trying to make sure he got all of it off of him.

Once he rinsed all the soap and shampoo off of him, he turned off the water and grabbed the towel he had brought in with him. As he toweled off and got dressed, he couldn't keep the error message from replaying in his mind. 'Evolution Data Corrupted' the machine had said.

What did it mean? Was it the machine or was there something wrong with Pinkie? Could that be what was keeping her from healing properly? Or was something wrong with the original cells that had been put in the machine? Was his pokemon defective, for lack of a better word?

No! No. No. She had come from his parents, she had been a special gift to him. They were excellent breeders, they would have noticed if something was wrong with her when she hatched. Right?

Rory closed his eyes, feeling a headache starting to come on as he pulled on his worn sneakers. To try to get the confusing message out of his mind, he decided to go outside to attempt to clear his head. Besides, right now, people were the last thing he wanted to be around as his mind tried to process the information from earlier that night.

He took his things back to his room, throwing the fire suppressant dowsed clothes into his dirty laundry to be done later. He debated on taking his pokemon with him or not. She hadn't been outside for a while, but then he couldn't give into his thoughts properly. He would have to keep an eye on her. He left his belt with her pokeball and the extras he kept on him on his bed before leaving the room to make his way outside.

~~~~~~~~~~
A little ways over the horizon was a black lizard pokemon laying in the sand, absorbing what was left of the heat. He hadn't thought being in the desert would be so cold at night. at least he had the sand and his tail flame to keep him warm. So far he hadn't seen the head of hair he had been searching for since the humans' party in the city. Then again it didn't help that he typically kept his distance from the extremely tall building. It wouldn't do him any good if someone found him out there. Except maybe then he could run around inside until he found the man he was looking for or the little girl the guy had been with, she could lead him to him.
The Charmander let out a small yawn and stood up to stretch out his small body. He looked in the way of the building and spotted someone come out the doors. Was this the human he was looking for? Or was it someone else? The lizard laid back down but kept his head high enough to watch, just in case.
~~~~~~~~~~

The fresh air felt good as he breathed in. It was slightly chilly out but that's what happened when the sun went down in a desert. Rory leaned again the building, to the side of the entrance doors. It was quiet out here, though the sound of far off Noctowls could be heard occasionally if he listened close enough.

The only way he would know what that message on the machine had meant was to wait until they both filed their reports and continued with a second attempt. Then again they were hoping to have Rapidash DNA then, so maybe he wouldn't be able to find out anything.

Or he could get an extra sample from Pinkie; after all he'd have to get another sample anyway after tonight's disastrous attempt. He could research and examine it himself or see if someone else would be willing to examine it for him. There was nothing he could do until he found out what was going on.

~~~~~~~~~
The black lizard watched the man as he moved off to the side of the doors. He could see him a little better now; now he could tell who it was! The yellow haired man! The Charmander let out a small, happy cry. He was close, now just how to get it?
Journal Entry #3:
What is that?
Once again the blond Rocket grunt found himself outside in the desert while his Ponyta ran around and stretched her legs. He didn't have much time before he had to get back inside; he was wasting his lunch break to let her out of her pokeball. He did manage to grab a granola bar and hoped that would slave off his hunger until it was time for dinner.
If only the desert wasn't so boring. Not only did he burn up in his uniform in the heat, but there was nothing around for miles. It was a great place for the base, but there was nothing to do except wait for the pokemon to be done with whatever they decided to do with themselves. Looking at his watch, Rory sighed; he still had twenty minutes before he had to report back down in the lab which meant he had, at most, fifteen minutes before he could go back inside.
Getting bored standing outside the doors, he decided to look around to see what he could find. All he found was sand and more sand and even more sand with the occasional cactus. He started walking back towards the base and contemplated retrieving Pinkie and going back inside. Maybe he could grab something small to snack on before going back down to his assigned work area.
As he was walking passed one of the few cacti that were in the area, something near it caught his attention. There was something yellow near it and it was shaking!
He went over and knelt down on his knees to inspect it; it was an egg! Where had an egg come from out here? Had it been abandoned? Lost? Misplaced? What pokemon decided behind a cactus was a good idea for a place to hide an egg? As he observed the egg, he noticed little cracks start to form. Whatever it was, it was hatching!
He took his eyes off of the hatching egg to find out where his Ponyta was and seeing that she wasn't far away, he clicked his tongue to get her attention before showing her the 'ball she stayed in before hitting the button to withdraw her back into the device. Once she was safe and the pokeball was reattached to his belt, he turned his attention back to the egg. This had been his favorite part about growing up with breeders for parents; watching the babies emerge from their eggs.
The egg was fully cracked around now and it wouldn't be long before whatever species it was finished breaking its way out. He watched intently as the top of the egg slowly lifted up to reveal a set of brown eyes staring right at him. The baby pokemon let out a small, high 'chu' and fought to lift its head the rest of the way, leaving it sitting up in the bottom half of the egg, with the top half resting on top of its head.
Rory pulled his Rocket-dex out of his pocket to make sure he had the species right; it looked like a Pichu, it sounded like a Pichu...When the 'dex scanned the tiny pokemon, it chimed in with the confirmation that Rory had been correct.
As Rory put away his 'dex, the Pichu crawled its way out of the bottom half of the egg and was now looking up at him from his lap. It wasn't the typical color for a Pichu; the brown eyes were one difference as well as the snow white cheeks. Its coat was a faded yellow; the color on its neck, ears, and tail were also different. As he was taking it the differences and wondering how the changes had happened, the Pichu sniffed him and curled up against his chest and let out a large yawn.
Rory grinned and held the baby pokemon as he plucked another pokeball off his belt. He held it out for the sleepy pokemon to sniff. The Pichu blinked up at him, yawned again, and sleepily sniffed at the 'ball before cuddling back against Rory's chest. The Rocket smiled and hit the activation button on the pokeball, the red beam drawing the now sleeping baby into the capsule. He attached the 'ball back to his belt, next to Pinkie's before going back inside. He'd come up with a name for it later.
Journal Entry #4
Who are you?
The dark blond Rocket yawned as he walked through the rec room floor of the base. Most of his day had been spent further down stairs in the lab. Though he had escaped to get lunch earlier and had spent some time in his room, reading up on material related to his and Tambrey’s experiment. He had come down to see if there was anything he wanted to do in the rec room. As he was walking towards the room, he was listening to music he had on the cheap mp3 player he had gotten one day while he was in town. It didn’t have much or could hold much music but it was nice to have when he was outside or in the exercise room. The closer he got to the door, he realized the light inside the room was on and the door had been left slightly ajar.
He peered inside the room from the crack in the door and noticed the little red head off in the corner. His heart sped up slightly at the sight of her and his palms started to sweat; he had been so busy lately that he hadn’t had the chance to see her or talk to her since the night of the League event where she had kissed him. He still didn’t know what to make of that incident. Though he figured if she wanted to date him, she would have come to him by now. As he watched her start to dance, the song he was listening to switched to a soft ballad.
She was beautiful; at least to him anyway, he didn’t understand why she had issues with how she looked. And she was always sure of herself and what she wanted, even if she did things out of the ordinary to get it. For being so young, and immature in some ways, she had herself together pretty well. She was much better than he had been when he was her age. As the song continued and Ally almost seemed to move to the music he was hearing, he smiled softly and leaned against the door frame.
Who are you when I’m not looking
Oh he wished he could find out. He felt compelled to learn as much as he could from her, about her, and simply be around her. He wanted to know more about what would happen if he made her mad, made her upset, made her happy. He wanted to learn her nervous habits and what made her nervous. And he wanted her to know him; he wanted her to learn all about him. Well maybe not all, yet, but enough.
Who are you when I’m not looking
He wanted to know why she came down here late and hid her talent from the rest of the world. He wanted to know why she had joined the Rockets and thanked Arceus that she had. No girl had ever made him think like this. He wanted to know what her father would think of him; he wanted to know what his mother would think of her. He wanted to know what she was like when she was away from work.
Are you thinking of me
That’s what he wanted to know the most. It didn’t matter at all what he thought of her; what mattered was what she thought of him. Did she see him as just another guy, a friend, a co-worker or did she think of him the same way he thought of her. Though as much as he wanted to know what she thought of him, the idea of knowing also scared him. What if she didn’t think of him the same way? What if she had just been playing with him that night?
Maybe that’s why he hadn’t sought her out yet. Maybe he didn’t want the memories of that night to be tarnished if it wasn’t what he thought it was. As he continued to watch her move gracefully around her small area, he felt his heart begin to hurt. She had the power to break him right now, if she wanted. Maybe he was best that he kept his distance from her. Maybe then her hold on him wouldn’t be as strong and if she didn’t want him, it wouldn’t hurt as much.
He took a deep breath through his nose and exhaled. He could find somewhere else to relax tonight and save the potential heartbreak for later. He quietly closed the door so she could have some privacy and turned off his mp3 player before heading to go back up to the dorms.
Journal Entry #5
What's wrong with me?!
What was wrong with him?! What was he thinking?! Why was whatever that incident was affecting him so much? He already had a girl he was crushing on, right? Okay, so he never saw her, but she had left an impression on him. He had been so convinced something would have happened by now after that party they had been at. He had his shift for the day and now back in his room, pacing up a storm. As he continued his pacing, his mind drifted back to what had happened in the makeshift lab. It had been a bit since it had happened but his mind refused to let it go. He had caught Tambrey and kept her from falling. That was it….right? But she hadn’t made a move to leave his arms once she was safe and he hadn’t had the urge to let her go either. He….hadn’t wanted to let her go. Why?
As he contemplated the situation, he thought back on his encounters with the brunette grunt. He remembered meeting her for the first time in the infirmary. Arceus, how awkward had that been? Yet, she had been decent to him when they had got to meet again when he wasn’t on pain killers. She had even offered him the opportunity to learn and help her out, to work beside her on something important to her. She trusted him and she enjoyed spending time around him. The movie night had been fun and a nice reprieve after the experiment failed that first time. He remembered behind scared for her that night, trying and wishing he could protect her.
Then there was the fair. She had stayed behind from the rest of their group when Thor had thrown his temper tantrum. Instead of going off to play the game, she had actually stayed with him even though he had caught a bit of fear in her expression as he had tried to comfort the electric type. Then they had gotten stuck at her parents’ place and that had been interesting in and of itself. Then there had come the game night with Xander and his boyfriend. He hadn’t been able to help how he reacted as she read the clues off to him.
What was going on?! He had only reacted like that with one girl since he had even come to Kodo and it wasn’t her! At least until that night it wasn’t.
He gave a growl, hoping he didn’t startle the jolteon that was hiding under the other bed before flopping down onto his own bed. He grabbed his Rocket-dex to see if he could get in the database to try to look her up; she had gotten to see most of his information after all, why couldn’t he get a peek at hers? Never mind the fact that her mother had spilled a lot of information about her while they had been stuck at her house after the fair.
He managed to log in successfully and searched to find the other grunt. When the entry for her loaded, he smiled at the picture it displayed of her. Why did he do that? What was so different that had him looking at her as more than a friend? He read through the info that was supplied and continued to grin. Her mom had hinted to him that the day was coming up and had given him the date but he hadn’t been sure.
He undid his jeans and kicked them off, leaving himself in a shirt and boxers to sleep in. He laid down and tried to relax so he could get a decent night’s sleep. As he drifted off, it wasn’t the familiar purple eyes that haunted his dreams. They had been replaced by a set of green eyes hidden by black glasses. Oh, was he in trouble!
Journal Entry #6
What are you doing?
He was curious. He had seen the wild Charmander three times now; in fact it nearly always seemed to be around when he was away from base and would always come find him. He had even seen it one day while he was outside the base. The Charmander had even followed them, carrying Thor, to Tambrey’s parents’ house when they got stranded in the rain that had ended the fair early. When they had left, however, the Charmander had given him back the Pichu before giving him a nod and taking off. Now he was back in Champhoreon City, wandering around until he needed to head back. He was walking down the sidewalk, towards the beach, when he heard a noise coming from a nearby alley way. He paused and heard the noise again; the sound of a fist hitting flesh and a pokemon’s cry.
He slowly walked down the alley, a hand on Pinkie’s pokeball just in case. As he drew nearer, he spotted a dark-haired man glaring down at the familiar Charmander. “You should know better than to run away from me, Jacy-boy,” he heard the man growl down as the Charmander groaned, glaring back up at the man, sniffing the area slightly. The man held out a pokeball towards the pokemon, “Get in. Now!”
Rory watched as the Charmander continued sniffing before looking in his direction. He noticed a glimmer in the fire-type’s eyes and watched as the pokemon turned back to the dark-haired man. The Charmander, Jace, jumped up and grabbed the pokeball, hitting the man in the face with his tail before he landed back on the ground. Rory ducked out of the alley as the Charmander went running off with his pokeball grasped in his claws. He watched as the Charmander looked to make sure the man wasn’t following him before he ran off towards the beach.
The rocket grunt was in awe of the pokemon’s spunk and followed after him. He managed to catch up and find the pokemon sitting in the sand, staring at the pokeball in his claws. He approached slowly and crouched down by the black lizard.
“Hey, buddy, remember me?” he whispered quietly and the pokemon’s head jolted up to look for the person the voice had come from. When the Charmander saw Rory, his golden eyes lit up and he chirped a greeting as he nodded. Rory watched as the Charmander looked at him then back at the pokeball then back to him then back to the pokeball once more. The pokemon gave another nod and held the ball out towards Rory.
“What are you doing?” Rory asked curiously, trying to figure out what the Charmander was doing. The pokemon sighed again and grabbed Rory’s hand with one claw and sat the pokeball down in his palm. Rory’s eyes widened. “Do you want me to have this?”
The Charmander nodded and pressed the button on the front of the ball causing the red beam to engulf him and suck him into the capture device.
Rory looked down at the ball in shock before grinning wide.
