"Oh there was this one time wh-" she began, but was cut off by the boil's return.
Danny's eyes lit up when Roch came out carrying a ... well just what was it? It didn't look very nicely wrapped. Of course, Danny didn't care. She'd never gotten a present specially picked out for her. Her parents just got her hand-me-downs from Oersted, or cheaper duplicates. It was obvious who the favorite was.
The fire demonness was liking this Monica figure less and less. Not only did she have a really long dress like Edel, she also had a present-opening rule? This was stupid!
So she pouted. "Can't we just open them now?"

"First we eat, then we open presents! It's how they do it in the shows!" Monica said as she came in with another sprig of mistletoe, which she hung after pulling a chair to the door to stand on. "That's why I'm wearing this!" the ghoul added, turning and showing off her dress.
"Monica's usually a poledancer," Roch said. "She's real good at it, she can flip upside down and everything."
"But you were tellin a story," Austin prompted Danny.
"What story?" Roch asked.

"You should take it off," Danny said absently at Monica. It was true after all. She could easily burn it off if the woman wanted. It wouldn't be too hard. Just like how she burned Edel's dress off!
Distracted again by Austin, Danny said, "Well this one time ... we got skateboards, and I had to teach Roch how to ride-"

"And what have you been teachin' her?" Vegas asked Roch. Neither he nor Austin looked too worried about Roch learning to skateboard, in fact, they shrugged it off easily.
"I haven't taught her anything illegal," Roch summed up. "But I have been teachin' her to read music!"
"Good trade off," Vegas said. "Not ride a motorcycle?"
"Nah, don't got one to show her on."

Apparently her story wasn't as interesting as their son. It was funny, Roch always talked about how his dad was a princess incarnate, but the male trio actually seemed like a lot of fun. Much better to be around than her parents anyways. These ones actually cared about fun things! Like motorcycles and skateboards!
She beamed a bit proudly when he talked about reading music. Danny was a slow learner- no scratch that- the SLOWEST learner, but she could sort of read C Major now. After a whole year, it was a pretty big deal for her.
Danny looked at Roch. "Motorcycle? You know how to ride a motorcycle? You said your grampa just put you on the back of it...."

"Yeah I blackmailed them into teaching me," Roch said shamelessly.
"Next could you teach him to dance?" Austin asked her. "The boil SUCKS somethin' horrible. You'd think a fighter could dance, too, but seriously," he said with a shake of his head.
"I can jumpstyle!" Roch protested. "Neither of you can do that!"
"Cuz it isn't dancing, it's bouncing around like a moron," Vegas told him.
"But it's fun!"

Okay at that she lost it. "Roch? A dancer?" she said in between giggles. At prom she'd seen him dance for a few seconds (back when he stole her from Moure), but then he'd been distracted by throwing things with Demi. Oh man. Roch. Dancing.
Then they lost her. "Jumpstyle? What's a jumpstyle?" she asked, head tilted in confusion. Her tail flicked idly back and forth in the chair, singing one of the legs a little. Oops. Hopefully they wouldn't notice that.

Roch brought out his phone and pulled up the video to show her. "This is jumpstyle," he told her as the kids on the screen started to dance. "It's a hell of a lot of fun! You should learn it sometime." Vegas snorted, blowing a smoke circle. "You shoulda seen him in Muertes, boil was two left feet when he tried to dance." "Dinner's ready!" Monica called from the kitchen. "Roch, honey, can you help me bring this stuff in?" "Sure, Monica!" Roch said, hopping to his feet and heading for the kitchen.

Danny watched the video with interest. Like his parents had said, it wasn't really ... dancing persay- but it looked fun! "I wanna learn!" she said excitedly. If Roch thought it was fun, odds are she probably would end up liking it.
Most would brush the smoke from the cig away, but Danny was all too familiar with smoke. It really didn't bother her in the least.
Monica called from the kitchen and Roch left, leaving Danny with Vegas and Austin. "Should I go help?"

"Nah, you're a guest," Vegas said.
"And Monica likes to play gramma," Austin drawled with a hint of amusement. "So let her. It ain't gonna hurt either of them." For now, at least. If his old man dumped the ghoul, that was another matter. But hell, Vegas had kept her around longer than he expected, so who knew?
Vegas didn't comment on that fact, merely put his cigar in the tray and made himself ready for a big meal by grabbing his fork and knife.
Soon Monica and Roch were entering with trays almost overflowing with food. It was beautiful.

Unholy s**t. Damn straight it was beautiful.
Danny excitedly looked at all the food she had made. She knew Roch ate a lot, but not this much. Like s**t. Well sure there were 3 other people at the table and all but ...
LOOK AT ALL THAT FOOD. She'd never have a meal around the table with Roch before, so she wasn't quite sure about the etiquette. Did they just start eating or ...

They started digging in, with Monica insisting they have more of this or that, beaming proudly as they complimented what they were eating. It wasn't formal at all, in fact, by the looks of it, no one had ever taught any of them manners. EVER. But it was fun.
"Hey, hey, that was mine!" Roch complained as his dad ganked a roll right from under his hand. "I'm a growing boil!!"
"Growing round, you mean," Austin teased.

This was the best dinner. The best dinner. Christmas dinner had always been politely eating, small table talk. How was your day, how's school going. Things like that.
Watching Roch bicker with his parents, Monica dolling out food (instead of a having a servant do it for her), and Austin making comments the entire time? Danny was a little envious. She wanted this.
Of course, she ate generous portions too. Anyone who had a sliver of doubt that Danny was a boilish ghoul could now be sincerely rebutted. She ate nearly as much as Vegas, but not even close to the amount Roch ate. Danny doubted anyone could eat as much as Roch could.
When all was said and done, Danny said, "So ... is there dessert?" with a big smile on her face. Dessert was always the best part after all.

"There is!" Monica said, standing again from where she had finally sat down to eat. "Vegas bought a christmastival cake!" she announced, proudly. "I'll go get it, and then we'll--"
"Do a bit of music performances," Vegas said before she could finish. "You get three musicians in a room you should at least make them work for the food," he finished.
"Can't, Roch'll fall asleep," Austin drawled with amusement.

Danny banged her fork on the table with excitement for dessert. It just got better and better and better an-
"I wanna hear! Roch can go to bed," she said, without the tiniest bit of hesitation.
