Shina recalled Rasha and sent out Tenka. He soared through the air, reveling in the static against his fur. "Tenka, that Mew took down Rasha! Get her!" Shina called. Tenka immediately focused on the Mew. With an evil grin, he drew in electricity.

Shadow shuddered violently and nearly fell out of the air from the small pokemon's powerful attack. She held on, though her vision was blurry.
It hurt Zinnia to see Shadow so hurt. She wanted to call her back, but she knew that Zyk couldn't defeat the electric type pokemon alone. There was perhaps one chance... if they were very lucky. If this plan didn't work, she would have to put all her faith in Zyk. And even if they lost, at least they had done their best, and it was a good learning experience for all three of them.
"Shadow... I know you're tired... Could you try an Ice Beam for me, please?" she asked, hating herself a little for doing it.
Shadow turned to look back at Zinnia for a moment, something that she had never done in a battle before. She spoke privately to Zinnia using telepathy, another first-time while fighting. With that, she lifted a tired paw and tried with all her remaining strength to freeze the emolga.

Tenka tried, but he couldn't get out of the way of the beam. He fell to the ground, frozen solid, but already sparking and melting the ice from within.

Zinnia bit her lip. That one didn't seem to have been strong enough. This was her chance to return Shadow to her pokeball for some rest... Wasn't it cruel to make her keep fighting on such little strength? But she remembered the look on the mew's face, and she remembered what Shadow had said. It was true that Shadow was fighting from her own desire; she could come back to the trainer's box if she really wanted to quit. Shadow wanted to keep trying, so Zinnia wasn't going to force her to stop.
"Ice Beam," she said, this time more firmly. At the very least, Shadow would be able to come away from this battle saying she tried. She was making a sacrifice to pave the way for Zyk.
Shadow closed her eyes and took a deep breath, using the time Tenka was frozen to her advantage. Once she had pulled her concentration together, she opened her eyes, aimed carefully, and fired another freezing beam at the thawing pokemon.

Tenka was nearly free when another attack hit, thickening the ice. Annoyed, he called more power to melt the prison.

Shadow saw that, once again, the ice was much too thin. It wasn't working out.
"Earth Power!" Zinnia called out finally. It would leave Shadow vulnerable, but it seemed like she didn't have the strength to freeze Tenka for long enough.
Shadow summoned up her strength and tried the attack, bracing herself for the electric pokemon's counterattack.

Tenka broke free of the ice just in time, soaring up and avoiding the attack. Quickly, he gathered energy and zapped it at the Mew.

"Shadow, return!" Zinnia said immediately after the attack hit. The mew disappeared back into her pokeball, and Zinnia looked down at it sadly. She had tried so hard. She had defeated her opponent.
Now, it was Zyk's turn.
"You can do it," she said softly, tossing his pokeball up into the air to release him. "You're fighting at a disadvantage," Zinnia informed him as he flew out into his place. "Just do your best, okay?"
Zyk squeaked confidently. What was Zinnia worrying about? He'd make her feel better by winning!
"Use Return!"
Zyk used the strength of his love and loyalty to Zinnia to power the attack.

The super effective attack on top of the electric field made Zyk sad, but he wouldn't give up! He dove at Tenka and tried to bite her, fangs dripping with poison.

"Zyk, are you okay?" Zinnia asked anxiously. Zyk squeaked back at her and managed to keep his place in the air. Zinnia wished that the battle would end soon! She sucked in a quick breath and commanded, "Confuse Ray!"

Tenka wobbled in the air, and Shina sighed, knowing he had been confused. Oh well, they could only keep trying and hope he didn't run into too many walls. "Tenka, try another Acrobatics!"
