He thought about it for a long moment, brow furrowed. "The hole caved in," he said, half-sensically. "Or I would've had her."
He had played that part of the scenario over and over in his mind, whenever he wasn't busy conversing with the new voice in his head.
He shook his head, laying back against the floor, his eyes half-closed. "I am weary, brother. Shadows save you, you will never have to feel this." His eyes twinkled. "On the bright side, now I know exactly what punishment to inflict upon the traitor. Before we kill him."

Dios shook his head, amused despite himself. Yes, that would surely be a punishment cruel enough to suit the crimes.
"Get your rest, then. You are of no use to us as you are now, huntmaster," he said before leaving the den.
His mind was already categorizing and analyzing everything he had learned this night, and everything that remained unanswered. Sadly, as was often the case, he found himself with more questions than answers. He could only hope that time and perseverance would reveal the rest. Until then, he had duties to attend to.
