Siddie reached over to take the black ring from Barth's hand. It gleamed against the flat black of her own substance; she slipped it onto her finger, nodding a little at the neatly gauged fit. She offered the signet ring to him in turn. It had once belonged to her grandfather, and she had never bothered to have it sized. It would likely fit one of Barth's fingers reasonably well.

Barth accepted the ring, and slid it onto his claws experimentally. The band, he noted, had not been designed for Siddie's smaller fingers. An heirloom, maybe. It was handsome. He looked nervously back at the item he had given to Siddie.
"Just err, you know, don't go crazy with it. I'll try to extend the courtesy."

Siddie giggled, just a little. "Don't worry," she said. "I'll take good care of it. I wouldn't use it frivolously; it is your mark, after all." Had the engagement been seriously intended, she would have been expected to use the seal on occasion, in her capacity as future spouse. As it was, she didn't intend to make use of it as a seal unless it was required by the elaborate and careful act they were performing.
