Mezlijin giggled as Dru called monkeys cowards. He'd never actually run into one, so he was just going to have to take her word for it. As Dru nudged him on to continue searching for the roots, he quickly snapped back to attention and darted over to his spot once more. "Mlinzi says that these roots are best extracted in long, thin strips. But he is going to crush them into a muddy mess..." Mezlijin groaned trying to remember exactly how to extract the root. He knew it was safe to bring back as a whole, but he was here to impress! Not just do as he was told! "We have to be careful, if we pull the root too hard, the medicine inside will spill out. So I dig them out with my paws, and then pack the sides with dirt so the juice doesn't spill." The cub reached over to the root once more and this time began lightly digging into the dirt. Doing his best not to hit that hurt nerve again. But he wasn't very successful. He winced his way through it, taking small breaks and trying to play them off as demonstrations.
"See? It's easy, but it's also really hard. Sometimes I forget to pack the dirt, and then the root dries out before I can get it home. But that won't happen this time, because you'll help me remember right!?"

Dru nodded and questioned the cub when he stopped to rest his wounded shoulder. Yes, she could see the deliberate stops that he attempted to hide as demonstrations for what they truly were. The pain from his shoulder becoming overwhelming. So how could she tend to the pain without making the little male feel horrible. After all, he was taking care of what this Mlinzi needed so his pride would be hurt worse if she was too obvious about it.
"Of course I won't let you forget. I'll remind as often as need be. But let me try, Mezlijin. If you keep doing it, I'll never learn how to properly extract the roots, but I know I'll need to watch over me. I'm sure to make a mistake if you don't talk me through this."
Dru slowly dug through the soil, not nearly as slowly as Mezlijin had, but then she wasn't injured. Sore, but not injured. She stopped at calculated points in her digging to ask Mezlijin questions about the root, plant, and if she was doing it correctly, just to make sure he didn't wander over to another plant and attempt to dig out another one without her. She didn't want him straining his injury and making it worse.

A wide grin spread over the small cub's face as Dru excitedly dug up the roots. Looking as though she were really excited to be doing such a mundane task, Mezlijin shrugged it off though. To each their own, if she enjoyed doing this, he would gladly be the big tough guy and watch over her.
Taking on a more proud and tough stance, the male watched over the older female, cheering and tsking her in various different ways as she dug her first root. It had been a task, but she'd done it! "Yay, Dru you got one!" He cheered, bouncing lightly on his back paws, and allowing his tail to flit back and forth as he did so. "You sure are a fast learner. I'm STILL trying to learn all these plants! He giggled slightly, allowing a bit of exhaustion to sink into his tone.
As Dru finished up her first plant, Mezlijin sat up and looked her in the eye. "Thank you for all your help Dru, I think I only need a few more and then I can go home and tell Mlinzi all about you! He'll really enjoy the story - hehe"

Dru smiled at Mezlijin, "I bet there are a lot of plants that you're expected to remember, huh? Maybe too many at one time. I know I would be able to remember more than a few before it filled my brain for that information."
Dru started to pack the dirt around the plant so that Mezlijin would be able to carry it back to his pride and his healer friend. "I'm happy to help you Mezlijin, I think finding and caring for your plants like treasures is a good thing to do. Let me go dig some more up for you and then you'll have what you need for your Mlinzi."
