He shrugged. In truth, he didn't know exactly why, and he hadn't anticipated her skepticism. He hadn't anticipated anything.
So by way of answer, he told her the truth. "My family are refugees from a pack that was torn apart when I was very young," he said. "I've spent all my life wandering without purpose, under the watchful eye of my family. I've grown, but done nothing important or substantial."
The words surprised him even as they escaped his maw. He had never shared this insecurity with anyone before. He had never even said it out loud. "If you don't need any help, I understand. And I apologize if I'm being forward. I just...have done nothing else of value with my life, and here is an opportunity to help someone in need. I would be a fool not to offer."
He smiled sheepishly. He wasn't sure when the last time he had ever said so much at one time was.

"I am hardly helpless," she said coolly.
In truth, the female was more than a little miffed at the implication that she might be some helpless damsel in distress. Draga was anything but helpless. However, she was very used to company. She and Manuel might never have been particularly close, but they did have a comfortable relationship, and they were always together. It was a little lonely to be traveling alone, even with her quest driving her and consuming the vast majority of her waking thoughts, to the point that it invaded her dreams.
Perhaps it would be...nice to have a little company. Sindre did not seem a bad sort, all things considered. His motivation might be primarily self-serving, but the effect of that would benefit her, and she was not so proud that she would turn her nose up at an offer to help find her sister. This was far too important for that. Besides, it was not as though they had to stay together forever. It was just for a little while.
"However," she amended, "I am not adverse to the notion of an extra nose on the trail." She eyed him, wondering if she was really going to go through with this.
"Won't your family miss you, though?"

He shrugged. "I'll come back," he said, unbothered. His family saw him every day. They could survive without him for a little while. Besides, he had been growing slowly apart from all of them for so long that he hardly talked to them any more. His life was going in one direction...and theirs was heading somewhere different.

Never having had a chance to get to know her family, Draga was baffled by his nonchalant response about leaving his own family behind, for however short a time it may turn out to be. Did he not cherish so precious a gift? Rationally, many wolves parted ways from their families after they grew up, but...Draga could not imagine willingly leaving her family. Not while she was so desperately searching for the last living member aside from herself.
However, it was his own decision, and it was not as though he was liable to be gone forever. So, she shrugged.
"Very well," she agreed. "We will move on, then." With that, she chose her direction and continued the hunt, hoping that fate would see fit to reveal signs of Senka soon.
