“You shouldn't ... talk about yourself that way ...” Edel murmured. Not Roch too - Moure was already too self-depreciating. Yet the frost demon knew she wasn't in any position to say anything. It frustrated her. Guys like her... being rich and powerful. Coming here to school and all it did was set up a tall, imposing wall between her and some others – for those who cared about it.
“I, er, how may we be in contact?” she asked, feeling a little desperate to fulfill that request and help in any way she could, “With Taryn I mean.”

"I... hell, I don't know," Roch said. "I could introduce you some time, y'know? Like meet at lunch or something? I'll figure something out. It ain't like we're not on the same campus, I'm sure you can run into her sooner or later, here--"
He dug out his phone, pulling up the picture he'd taken of Taryn at the train station. "This is her," he said, grinning slightly at the broad smile on the ghoul's face.

“Mm..” was the glum response, until Roch brought out his phone and flashed her the picture of Taryn.
Wait. That ghoul was familiar...
“Oh-” Edel went a little vacant for a moment before snapping back to it, “Oh yes, I've seen her before, at Drama Class – uh we never spoke though...” The frost demon could also recall that they had at least one more mutual friend or acquaintance in Mort. Edel's focus remained on the picture for awhile before her gaze slowly shifted up to the punk reaper.
“Why do you have a ghoul's picture in your phone? Y-You two must be rather good friends?” That had to be a logical assumption. It wasn't like Roch went around collecting pictures of ghouls in his phone.

"This was one of my Christmas gifts from her," he said with a grin. "But I got a lot of other pictures," he said, flipping to show her one of Danny being goofy, then one of Jove drooling during a nap, then some others of his other pals, all of which could logically be used as blackmail. If they knew about them. There was even one of her playing her violin from the play.
"And this is Carmelita," he said, showing her a picture of a young skeleton female in a beautiful black and red dress. "She's a friend I made in Muertes."
He didn't mention all the pictures of Xiu he'd deleted. He didn't have any on there now.

So she would be lying if she said she didn't think of Roch's ... weird habit of taking photos and being borderline stalker. That phone must be pretty nifty for him to have amassed such a collection of pictures. Some of which... could possibly be used as blackmail. Then again one wouldn't need to look at Roch's phone to catch Danny up to some of her Dannyisms.
“You don't suppose I should be more careful around you now do you?” she mentioned in passing, bending in to take a closer look at the picture of Carmelita, “She's lovely.” Perhaps she could understand why Roch kept all these photos in his phone now; memories, they weren't such a bad thing.
“Muertes,” she looked up at the reaper and grinned, “I'd like to visit it someday.” Alas, having fun seemed so trifle nowadays.

"Nah, see, you'd be hard to blackmail," he said, bringing up the picture of her again. "I just took this cuz it looked like it needed to be taken," he added. "You look the prettiest when you're playin, did you know that?" he said. "Then again, I might be biased about people playing."
He shrugged and stopped messing with the phone, sliding it back into his pocket. "CHARLIE, on the other hand, I got so much stuff on him--" he said with a grin. "But I won't, cuz nobody would think anything of him acting that way. So it wouldn't work. Same goes for Danny. But they're fun to look at, and when we graduate or if the school gets closed down for real, or--"
He gave her a crooked smile, letting the thought linger.

It was hard to hide the grin and blush that came across her face when he said that, but Edel said nothing in response.
Ah, Charlie. Edel wasn't surprised Roch had a god collection of pictures of the fallen angel. The pink haired boil was such a conundrum though, Edel could never really figure him out. The mood fell again with the reaper's last words. Graduating sounded optimistic now, it was something she had taken for granted when she first came. The school getting closed down wouldn't be the worst of it she supposed, though for what reason-
“We're not going to die,” she said, a little sadly, looking at Roch's smile and feeling a chill down her spine for some reason. “And I'm not just spouting that 'Halloween never dies' nonsense, no because we do, and we're as good as dead if we ever get caught by them.” The frost demon was probably not on the same tangent as Roch, but that didn't matter now.
“Look, uh, you probably would not agree to this but you'd understand where I'm coming from,” she paused, giving him a sombre stare. “May I ask a favour of you too?”

"Um... yeah, sure, you know I will," he said. "What do you want me to do?" he asked. He hadn't even been thinking of getting caught, even if he had gotten caught once. No one was safe, but...
Well, fact was, he had chosen to ignore that fact to keep operating properly.

“What Red did back then... I don't necessarily condemn it,” she spoke softly, looking away into space before turning back to stare at Roch in the eye. “I had a thought, when one our schoolmate got captured away by the hunter from the previous infiltration-”
“-The point is, if the situation arises where I'd be much better off dead than in the hunters' hands,” the ghoul paused to look away again and brush her fingers against her lips.
“Could I ask that you dissipate me?”
There. It was the most pragmatic solution to the problem. “Rather than be c-captured and turned into something that can be used against us, I – uh, dissipation ... or even death is kinder.” For the first time since the field trip was Edel on the verge of cracking and breaking down.
“Sorry I uhm, it's alright if you don't-”

"I would..." Roch said, thinking about it for a long moment. "Jack, Edel, you know what I am. I know what I am, too. Probably would shock a lot of people if they knew what I'm about to admit, but--" He leaned forward, looking her straight in the eye. "How do you know you would dissipate and go back to normal if you're in one of those cages?" he asked her quietly.
"If..." he said slowly, leaning back. "If I knew you would dissipate and go back to some starting point like I did whenever I died, I wouldn't hesitate. People would hate me, call me a monster, whatever, but hell, I've almost killed myself a handful of times. And I. Am. A. Grim. Reaper," he spelled out. "But I saw those cages. They were weird, y'know? They kept in ghosts. Why wouldn't they keep in dissipated FEAR, too?"

“Thank you.” There was a moment of silence before she spoke again.
“I was hoping you might get to be before that happens. Cages, trap guns, they do funny things to us, but there really isn't any harm in trying-”
“-You're right though, but I'll trust your judgement on this.” The ghoul was regaining some composure with the comfort of knowing that Roch was on the same page when it came to this. “I'm sorry, it's a lot to ask of you...”
“And what about you?” Odd that she would ask, but Edel was willing to return such a morbid favour too.

"I can off myself," Roch told her with a little smile. "But I'm going to damn well try and take them out first. I can't give up that easily," he told her. "It's just a part of who I am."
He went silent, shoving his hands into his pockets and thinking for a moment. "You know, I ain't like you. I ain't like a lot of the people in this school, you probably figured it out. One grim reaper from the wrong side of the tracks, whether I can play a guitar or not, I figure what happens in the future, well, it ain't gonna change much no matter what happens to me."
He stood. "But thanks," he said quietly. "I'll see about hookin' you two up for a meetin' or something soon." Then, before she could yell at him, he shadowstepped away.

Edel was going to say something about what Roch said, but before she could -
That blasted shadowstep.
The ghoul looked down the corridor to where he might have disappeared to, a slightly incredulous look on her face. Resigned, she let out a huff and spun around to head back to her room.

A few days later there would be three sack-fulls of assorted candies sitting outside the punk reaper's dorm. If Roch wasn't so busy diving into the pile of candies, well, he might notice a small note tagged to one of them that said this:
You are more than what you make yourself out to be. And as for the future, I believe you can change it. Have faith and see : )
