Hosho knew as soon as he did it that he had failed at cutting the deers throat,a dn would have to try again. His stomach got slightly sick at the thought, but hepicked up his hatchet and tried again. He was starting to feel for this deer, and by no means wanted it to suffer any longer then necessary. So aiming his hatchet, and cut down yet again.

Hosho cleaned the deer as it finally passed away and, taking the meat, left the remains return to the forest. Pulling out some salt Hosho preserved the meat and then wrapped it in some particulary large leaves, and left for the academy, he would save the meat for later.

Higher and higher the boy went, winding his way through the villages various staircases. His goal was the Hunting Grounds at the top of the village, the base of the Mountains of Lightning. He ended up passing through almost every area of the village, at which points he could have stopped to check around for signs of the ball, but Masaaki had a one track mind, and so he missed several opportunities to gain a lead as to the ball's location. Up and up and up and up until finally the boy reached the tunnel that lead outside the mountain that Kumogakure was hidden inside.

It was cold.

Outside the protective shell of the mountain, the temperature plummeted, and Masaaki wished he'd brought another jacket. At this altitude, the air was noticeably thinner than that inside the mountain or at the entrance bridge. The winds were strong and a slight layer of snow and ice had built patches of white on the sides of cliffs and into rock faces. Masaaki couldn't imagine why the ANBU would have hidden the ball up here, but the mysterious note he'd received in the Training Grounds suggested that he try looking in higher places, and there was nowhere higher in all the village than the Mountains of Lightning.

"Wow..."

Masaaki had heard tales of a place beyond the Mountains of Lightning, called the Valley of Thunder. Supposedly it was just beyond the outskirts of Kumogakure, one of the furthest north settlements in all of the Land of Lightning. Past the Valley of Thunder was supposed to be a mountain range reaching so far into the sky, the summit of each mountain pierced the highest clouds. It was in this place that the Giant Hawks were to have made their home. In the centuries since their discovery, only a handful of shinobi had made the trip and contracted the hawks, and these were only from rumors. However, there had to be some truth to the myths, because Masaaki had seen mention of a man, from an extinct clan called the Raiken, that SUPPOSEDLY had a summoning hawk, which meant that in that place, far beyond the village, the hawks did exist.

However, Masaaki's daydreaming would get him nowhere, as when his thoughts finally returned to the task at hand, he set about combing the area for any sign of the ball.

Find the Dragon Ball Somewhere in the Village (It's around the housing area... but do not head straight there...)
There will be clues as to where the ANBU has been, because he was purposely sloppy.

It took Masaaki no more than a few minutes to find that there was no sign of the ball anywhere. It was disappointing that the clue had lead him to nothing more than a dead end, but it occurred to the boy that perhaps he might have taken the clue a little too literally. However, there was the slight off-chance that the ANBU had hidden the ball in the Hunting Grounds above. However the area was off limits to Academy students. He sighed

"I gotta try."

The boy had proceeded no more than twenty feet up the path that would take him further into the mountains when the ANBU appeared before him. Masaaki could not be certain it was the same one, for he had not taken the time to get a good at the person before they departed with the wish-granting ball. However, he could not think of a reason why this one might have shown up before the boy unless he was the one who hid it, and perhaps even left the note.

"Where do you think you're going?"

The voiced that came from within the porcelain mask was that of a man's; harsh, unfriendly, but not angry. Just indifferent, and perhaps a bit monotone.

"I'm looking for the ball. I have to find it before Ten'nyo. Otousan will give me anything I wish if I can find it first."

"It's not up there, I can tell you that. Why would I hide the ball in a place neither you or Ten'nyo-san could go?"

"I don't know..."

The boy looked down, slightly embarrassed by how stupid he sounded. The boy had turned around and was walking away with his head hanging when he felt a hand gently clasp down on his shoulder, preventing him from continuing on. Masaaki could feel the presence of something close next to the side of his head, and the faintest whisper in his ear.

"Why don't you try the Housing District?"

Masaaki's eyes widened when he heard the words, and he immediately turned around to thank the ANBU, but the man had disappeared. It took only a moment for the boy to register the thoughts before he took off at full speed heading for the Housing District. With a little luck, the magic, wish-granting ball would be his.

[Exit to Housing District]
