"Uh. It's not that late, is it?" He blinked, looking around: Ever, at least, was watchless. Not having any real time-based responsibilities meant he could get away with that, until he found some people to take up his tutoring fliers. It also meant odd hours, no early morning duties to wake him up or drive him down early -- and most of his focus was on that second life, these days. A nighttime duty.

"I was hungry, I guess." No clock. He shrugged, attention flashing back onto Ladon. He got a good look at that still-flustered expression and grinned again, amusement taking him over.

"Oh, come on, chill. Seriously, no one cares, and you could kick their asses even if they did, so what's your worry?"

Ladon did have a watch, and he tugged back the sleeve of his sweater to look at it and then up at Ever. "It's almost 3am." He said, as if the man should have known this right off the top of his head. It was true that Ladon had a terrible sleeping schedule these days...or weeks...months? - but he at least knew the time and tried to work 8 hours at each time. Going to bed this late was normal for him. He usually stayed up most nights and went to bed before the sun went up.

At the suggestion of just killing off the waiter, he frowned. "I can't just.." He glanced around." ...kill anyone I don't like, and I can't kick their.." He was hesitant to swear. "..a** like...this." He glanced at himself. As Ladon, he was weak. As Wolframite, he had power. "It's not like I'd hurt her anyways. There are only certain people that deserve a beating." He moved his plate to take a spoon and eat some fruit from the side dish bowl.

"I hope you're not doing this or Zac will be on you."

"It's not about actually doing it, it's about knowing you can." He looked bemused, just staring across at Ladon, unsure what to do with that shocking insecurity. If Ever'd know he took 'kick their a**' to mean 'ruthlessly slaughter them' there might have been more comments about insanity, too. He certainly hadn't used the word kill, had he? Had he ever suggested to anyone that they do that? Hell, he'd only killed one senshi in his time in the Negaverse...

Absently, he crossed one foot over onto his knee, slouching and watching him, eyes taking in the way he moved. "Why does it bother you? That's the point. If people know you well enough to matter, they know you well enough to understand. If they don't know you well enough to understand, they don't know you well enough to matter."

He rolled a hand, demonstrative. "Simple law of contrapositives. But you're tenser than Zac gets."

Ladon frowned, eating a spoonful of fruit before chewing and swallowing. "I'm no where near like Zac." Zac was tactical, smart, and came up with intricate plans. He was in a place of leadership, had even been Lina's right hand man when they were just starting out, and was now a General-King. In every way, he was nothing like Zac. "And how is anyone supposed to get to know you better to not care about things that you say or do if you ruin their first impression?" He glanced up, and then back to his food, poking his fruit again. Ladon's first impression had always been the kid you could easily ignore or loose in a crowd. Someone average, slender, and very quiet. It was probably why he didn't have many friends.

His shoulder's slouched as he pouted at his fruit. "All I want is for my waitress to not think of me as some shady pervert."

"Arguably, I am a shady pervert, though, so." He beamed at Ladon, entirely unconcerned, and fished into his pocket to check his phone. An ancient brick of a flip phone, dead or dying, it vibrated feebly at him to remind him he should plug it in. Oops. later, maybe. It just meant no one could reach him for the rest of the night...

"A different era -- or a different part of the world -- with my preferences..." He tucked it away again, one shoulder raised in a shrug, easy going still. "It'd mean a stoning, if I was lucky. Worse if not. But we're not there, thank God for that."

He raised his water glass, to that, and took a quick gulp.

He rose his mug more out of automatic reaction than to agree on that note, and stopped it when he noticed what he was doing, before taking it and drinking it. It was getting warm and he reached over to the little kettle of hot water placed on the table to refill it, and fished out another teabag from the one set on the plate beside it. "Yes. We get to die in more entertaining ways." Comas, being lost in space, aliens, youma mishaps, and the variety of senshi magic that could shock, burn, rip, and freeze. "Stoning almost seems kind in comparison."

A small smile tugged on that dark thought before he opened a packet of honey and poured it into his cup.

"You seemed rather well behaved at Zac's place." He commented, glancing up in a curious way. "He trust you a lot."

"You should tell him that. Well-behaved bit, I mean. I think Zed would argue with you." He smiled, though, suddenly, a flash of teeth in his face -- amused and pleased and affectionate. He really did like Zac. It wasn't quite lovey-dovey, but it was sure as hell as close as Ever came.

He brightened, straightened a touch, as the waitress appeared with his food. Not a lot, it was cheap and greasy but it would at least be filling. And for Ever, this was something of a luxury. Affording food out. No Ramen today.

He beamed at the waitress as she left. At least he was friendly. Maybe it'd make up for the weird comments. "...or at least he'd pretend to argue with you. He must like me at least a little bit, right?"
PostPosted: Thu Jan 19, 2012 2:48 pm

"Yes. He must....like you." Ladon looked at Ever a moment before glancing to the window beside their booth, where the snow continued to fall. Questions were dancing on his tongue, but he didn't know how best to ask. Ever had been in Zac's apartment when he was a cat, but he also seemed to be around the officer from time to time. They could just be good friends - right?

But something just seemed - to say that wasn't the case.

"Are you two....good friends?" He asked, looking back at him before reaching out for his tea.

He'd started on the tea: Ever was sipping it, slowly, as Ladon asked the question. The result nearly killed him, an intake of breath that turned to a frantic cough, his shoulders curling forward and his eyes glittering with amusement. Carefully, so he wouldn't spill all over himself, Ever set the tea down and grabbed at a couple of napkins. One was for his face, his mouth, as he coughed again. The other was to mop up the table.

"You mean..." He was a little garbled, a mix of coughing and laughter and something wry mixing together in his voice. "...yes. We are 'confirmed bachelors', if you want to be polite about it."
PostPosted: Mon Jan 23, 2012 10:38 pm

Ladon was surprised by the coughing, and then felt bad for going down that line of questioning. It was awfully forward of him, and it really was no business of his. He was just....curious, and Zac was one of the few people he knew and talked to. Maybe it was natural to know him a bit more on a more personal, everyday level. They usually talked of business matters, and a tad on the everyday life, but not much.

As Ever stated they were confirmed bachelors, Ladon was left confused, and took the statement for what it was. That they were single guys. "Oh. I thought...I mean. Nevermind. So you're good friends." Yes. He was being stupid. No radar whatsoever it seemed.

Ladon finished his fruit and set the small bowl aside.

Ever probably could have clarified, but -- there was a point at which he just couldn't keep pushing. So instead he laughed again, poking at his eggs and slouching in his chair, a hand worked up through his hair and eyes taking in the slightly-peeved duo at a table nearby. Apparently they thought he was being too loud for this hour, that his amusement was in some way inappropriate. Ever simple didn't give a s**t. Maybe Ladon would.

Oh well.

"Jesus, you're as uptight out of uniform as you are in." He shook his head, breaking a piece of bacon in half between two fingers. "But in a totally different direction. How is that even possible?"

Just a beat, considering. "How old are you again?"
PostPosted: Thu Jan 26, 2012 1:56 pm

Ladon frowned at being called uptight. Why did everyone say that? "I'm not uptight. I'm just not....all over the place." He said, gesturing around a moment before taking the last piece of toast he had and eating it. "Maybe to you I'm uptight, but I'm normal. Not everyone talks loudly about sex if that's what you mean." He really didn't get what made everyone else think he was uptight aside from being seen as old fashioned for not being as carefree and uncaring as some teenagers.

As for the last question, he resumed poking the few bits still left on his plate. "I'll be 18 this year." Before a grown man, it was as if he was admitting he was a child.

"If you're eighteen and your way of asking if I'm ******** around with Zac is 'are you good friends', you're uptight." It was less joking now, at least, his head tilted and his eyes gone more serious. More grown up himself. It was easy to forget that Ever was twenty-two, with twenty-three approaching at a startling pace. No stumbling teenager, here.

"You don't even have to ask about the bedroom. You could have asked 'are you two a couple?' which would have been an easy answer, since it's been...Christ, let's not even talk about how long it's been." Terrifying to think about. Ever shook his head. "But you're afraid to even touch on the subject, to even let your head wrap around the possibility of two people involved together. That's uptight."
PostPosted: Mon Jan 30, 2012 1:29 pm

" That's not it at all! You're acting like I never dated or been with anyone or even thought being in love was possible. I'm not a robot. I just didn't want to insult you by insinuating that JUST because you spend time with Zac means you're sleeping with him. Some guys do get pissed if you ask if they are into guys. I already knew about Zac. We do talk. He just never said anything much about you."

He really just wanted to explain and defend himself. He wasn't boring. Really.

"It's just personal ..... So I was wondering."

Babbling -- Ever watched Ladon fumble with words, absently working through his food and his tea, his expression still serious. Not laughing. Not really shrugging it off. Ladon could make all the excuses he wanted -- they simply weren't convincing.

He chewed, and swallowed, setting his fork down again. "There's not a lot that offends me, kid. I find the dancing around the subject, and the prudish stiffness, far more annoying than if you asked me flat out what was going on in my life."

Both hands wrapped around his tea, he watched Ladon, quiet. "Plus, I can always tell you to ******** off and not answer."
