"I'm fine," he muttered, but did not argue further. His thoughts were whirring rapidly through his head and he could hardly keep up with them. He had a lot to think about when he got a moment.
How long had he been wandering? How far had he gotten from home? He wondered if his family was missing him. He wondered if he cared.
Should he be scared? The thought occurred to him as he followed Xihuitl into the den. He missed the entrance, at first, and his nose bumped against the wall where the skulls were hung. His heart jolted, and his muscles stiffened as he choked back a yelp.
Was this a trap? Was he being led to his death?

Xihutil rolled his eyes and pushed Ashur into the den. He wondered if this boy would just end up food for the brothers, he was taking a large risk to bring one who is blind and barely able to walk was not going to be seen very well by the others.
He looked at the pup and then sat down grabbing a few kills he had caught yesterday. "If you can tell me what animals these are you can eat them, But if you get it wrong i keep it." It was a fox, some fish and a rabbit.

He choked out a yelp as he was shoved forward, totally certain that he was about to be slaughtered for dinner. But when Xihuitl didn't bear down upon him, didn't tear him apart, he calmed slightly. He pressed against the inner wall of the den, trying to get a feel for how large the space was. It smelled strongly of wolf...male wolf...and it intrigued him. Ashur was accustomed to large family dens, shared with his mother and sisters.
The scent of food accosted him, and though he was not as voraciously hungry as he had been previously, it still caused a twinge in his gut. Tentatively, he leaned toward the odor, nostrils twitching as he examined the meat.
"This one's easy," he said, his tail swaying in recognition as his nose bumped the fish. "This is fish. I eat fish all the time." No, he ate fish all the time. His life on the river was over, replaced by newer, stranger, more exhilirating things, and he would be wise to remember it.
He turned his attention to the others. He touched his nose to the rabbit, feeling the softness of its fur, inhaling its scent. "...Rabbit?" He said, after a moment of deliberation. Tahoma had caught him a rabbit, once. He couldn't see the look of pride in his brother's eyes, but he had heard it in his voice.
The last one, though, he couldn't place. He recognized it, but he didn't know what it was. "I don't know this one," he said, regretfully. "It's...it's what you gave me earlier, when you found me. But I don't know what it is." His home pack, being pacifists, were not prone to hunting carnivores for game. He added, boldly, "But I like it. It tasted...different."

Xihuitl pushed the fish and rabbit towards him and then listened to his explanation of the last one. "Its called a fox, they are kinda like small wolves. They live without much honor and often play tricks of you." He said and threw it to his feet also.
"What do you know of this world? Were you born blind or did it occur later?"

He ate the fish first, swallowing it nearly at once, crunching on its small bones. He took his time with the rabbit, and at last left the fox til the end. "You eat foxes?" He asked, curious. He knew what a fox was, but had never thought one could eat it.
"Foxes aren't...they're predators," he said, finally, trying to articulate the idea that had come into his mind. He suddenly realized he didn't know why wolves didn't eat foxes. He didn't know why wolves were supposed to eat anything, actually. No one had ever bothered to explain any of these rules to him. Now that he thought about it, he didn't even know if there were rules.
He ignored the idea and instead shook his head. "I was born blind," he said. "Like my mom. She was always blind too, I think."

Xihuitl was confused, and rather surprised. "Yes, they are, but we are larger and are higher on the food chain then them." He said wondering what else this pup don't know, it was sad that he had never been shown the great world that he could explore.
"We are higher on the food chain that most animals, some wolves use foxes as companions just like other animals." Xihuitl explained and nodded when he said that he was born blind.

Ashur shrugged, nibbling at the fox. His belly was growing full, now, and it made him realize how sore his muscles were, and how sleepy he was. "What else are we higher on the food chain than?" He asked, settling down to his belly, feeling more curiosity than unease.

Xihuitl thought for a moment, "Well when we hunt in a pack we can take down almost anything, our pack had taken down elk and moose, sometimes a bear is need be." He said recalling one time when the food was scarce and no wolves were coming into their territory.
"When you are alone though, almost anything except bears, elk, moose, and probably a mountain lion. They are the same skill set as us and large predators, but you can kill anything you set your mind to. In the brotherhood we are required to kill anyone who does not join our ranks, or if they are a female. We will eat them as well."

He nodded, considering all this. He wasn't entirely sure what a moose was, but he had an idea about bears.
The last sentence caught his attention, though, and he stiffened, turning his ears sharply back toward Xihuitl. "...You kill and eat....other wolves?"
So he had been right. He could have been brought here to eat.

"Yes, we are the brotherhood." He stated quite simply. "Have you not heard our stories?" He wondered knowing many pups from around here have been told never to follow a hooded stranger from the den. Though they always did.
Xihuitl looked at the scared wolf and smiled a bit. "Are you afraid i brought you here for a snack?"

Ashur shook his head, suddenly wary. "I don't listen to stories," he said, slowly, "meant to scare little pups."
Maybe he should have. He tried to think back, to remember if there were any tales he had heard that even began to touch on this. Nothing came to mind.
"I don't think you're going to eat me," he said, finally, truthfully. "I think you want me to be like you."

Xihuitl laid down and nodded, "I want you to have purpose, and i need someone to carry on my work when i die. We are not immortal, and many of the brothers steal up the pups as apprentices. I have not found one whom i think would work for me."
he pulled his hood off and looked at him. "I think you have what it takes, your other senses will be heightened from your inability to see."

Ashur nodded, setting his jaw stubbornly -- and proudly. "I will be the best apprentice you could have," he said, and he believed it. It was odd, he thought, how easily he could transition to this lifestyle. It was almost as though this fate had been destined for him, calling softly for him, luring him away to be all that he could.
If the pack murdered weaker wolves, so what? All the more reason for Ashur to be strong He would much rather be allied with the monsters that go bump in the night than be coursed down by them in the darkness.

Xihuitl smiled and closed his eyes, "Im sure you will." He said and peed one more open at him. "Get some sleep, you will meet the brothers tomorrow and start training." He said and let himself doze off.
Tomorrow would be very interesting, the brothers are going to want to kill him.
((Shall we call this an end? Then we can set up another rp to meet the pack and start training.))
