He stood alongside next to Horus for a few moments longer, trying his very best to stay still. But try as he might, his itch to keep moving began to kick in. It was something that he couldn't control when he had been a foal, but with time he was learning to get a handle on it. It was more often now that he could keep everything still enough that others would not notice his tic.

But just then with a sudden growing excitement within him, Acanthus' tic came to the surface once more. His ears were stock-still, focusing toward where the mist seemed to be moving, but his tail flicked more often than it needed to, and he kept lifting one foot only to put it back down. When he realized he was rustling his feathery wings he glanced over at the other male and nodded. "I think it's going somewhere."

Turning to face the guidance of the fog, he lifted his wings slightly, almost ready to throw them out to either side in case he needed to fend something off or take to the sky with a moment's notice. Perhaps it was just the guidance of a gentle breeze making it look like the fog was going somewhere, but the seed had been planted. He was convinced the fog was trying to tell them something, and he was going to find out what.

Acanthus was moving slowly, concentrating and embracing what he had said. He was accepting his lies--foolish, foolish stallion to believe in someone he just met so easily...It was as if he was asking to be controlled.

"Do you hear it?" He strained his head forward and flicked his ears like he was listening intently so some soft sound. "Do you hear what it's saying? Like a soft whisper...calling..."

He widened his eyes in surprise, as if he was really shocked. "Can you hear it to?"

Acanthus stalked forward, first few steps very cautious, the next several followed not quite as sternly. His heartbeat was rising, he could feel his blood pulsing faster. Oh, yes. Excitement was in the air. It was almost... tangible. Delicious.

'Do you hear it?' He paused, flicked one ear over at Horus, but otherwise waited a moment... Nothing. 'Like a soft whisper... calling...' Jerking his head back to glance at the orange stallion Acanthus couldn't hear a thing, but the other was reacting just as if he could indeed hear something... and who was he to question that? After all, he had no reason to suspect the stranger of lying...

Shaking his head Acanthus turned his gaze forwards again and trained his ears in the same direction as Horus' in an effort of perhaps picking up whatever it was that he was missing. After this short stall he picked up the pace once more, following the trailing ethereal body of fog. Perhaps when he got closer to the source of all of this mystery he would begin to hear what he currently could not.

Horus couldn't stop the devilish smile flitting across his face for a tiny moment. How foolish this Acanthus was! How easy to manipulate and use! But to what purpose? That was the question, what did he want from him? His unflinchingly loyalty would be the best, but that wasn't possible in the current circumstances. Maybe just plant the seeds, make him think he had powers or...well, something would come from it.

He followed after, eager to not let Acanthus get lost in the fog. "You hear it go?" His eyes were wide and surprised. "You hear it too, don't you? You understand what...it's saying? How it...calls to us?"

So easy, so agonizingly easy to do. Were all soquilli this easy? Would it really be that easy to manipulate anyone? He should expand and try it on others. He could...he could become something. He was born with nothing, and then he could have an army of minions...He could really have others at his very beck and call...

But maybe...well, what was the point? Was there a purpose? Why did he want this so badly...

THe only reason he could think of was so simple and easy.

It was fun.

Why try to lie about it? Why try to pretend it wasn't so? Why pretend that all he really liked to do was manipulate and that for a long time, he'd wanted to push it further? He needed it. He needed to go on see what he could do and wreck havoc all in the name of fun.

Something speaking...? Something calling to them? Tilting his head to one side so that his hair fell away from his face and ear he concentrated as he continued on. And as with any forced concentration, if one believed something enough one would make ones'self see or hear things that did not truly exist. As such, Acanthus -- with Horus' careful guidance and prodding, of course-- had also come to hear what did not actually speak to him.

"Yes!" Quiet but excited, the whisper was expelled in exuberance. He was hearing something, quite what... he couldn't yet tell, but it was something, there was no doubt! "I can't... I can't make out what it's saying, quite yet..." A quick glance back at Horus to make sure he was still following, but then right back up to the leading fog.

As they got closer to the source, something changed. Something slowly but surely was changing as they made it to where they were going. "Warm. It's warmer here..." Acanthus cautioned as he slowed his pace and finally came to a stop where it was almost impossible to see a few feet ahead because it felt like the entire area was being choked with this fog. It wasn't a trail anymore, but a bigger cloud that nested on the ground, covering whatever it was coming up from.

Horus watched as the other stallion listened to things that were not real and accepted them as his own. It was marvelous the tricks that you could play on someone if they were open enough to believe what you told them. Truth be told though, he was an easy one to believe. He'd always been blessed with a velvet tongue...a way to make others believe the intricate lies that he weaved. It was so easy to manipulate the messy emotions of less....learned and less intelligent soquilli. He couldn't help that they were gullible...It wasn't his problem, in fact it was his advantage.

He eased forward, widening his eyes. "I think maybe we can use our wings to push back some of the fog at the same time, and maybe we'll be able to see." He knew what was there, it was blatantly obvious--a small lava flow. Obviously, that's what you found in a place like this...

He flapped his wings lightly, "So let's do it at the same time and see if that works, dont' you think?"

Acanthus had hazarded a step, then another, and just one more toward the source, but it didn't make sense to keep going when he couldn't see where he was stepping, so he pulled back as Horus began to speak to him once more. He could almost hear the words of the fog now too, so between that and the new idea, Acanthus jumped on the suggested solution without a second thought.

"Brilliant! Let's do it!" Caught up in the excitement, he willed himself to breathe deeply and still most of his tics so that he could pay attention to the cues Horus gave him. Pulling his wings out to either side he steadied them, and they almost jittered as he waited, but it was well worth the few seconds of waiting to finally get the answer they had been looking for. With a powerful swipe of both of their wingspans' the fog was easily whisked back and away from the source, and as it did so, it released its' message loud and clear.

"Moooooove ooooon!" it wailed softly as the draft's eyes fell to the ground and found the source at last. A pile of cooling lava lay darkening as they watched, and directly behind that was a glowing crevice that led down, down, down into the rock below. The fog had been steam all along, but such differences didn't change the tale.

"Did you hear that?!" All excited, now that he had finished gawking at the lava that had escaped the earth's rocky grasp. "It said 'Move on!', it did! I heard it!" It had not had the chance to be processed yet, nor did the fact that it was mere lava steam telling him things.

Absolute nutcase.

That pretty much summed it up. This...stallion, this Acanthus actually thought that he heard things which was beyond ludacris. The earth didn't speak to one, there was no great mystical force that enveloped and overwhelmed you--it was all the stupid belief that it did, that was it.

He flicked his ears and widened his eyes, "Oh yes! Yes, I heard it. Do you think it wise to stay here? Or should we go further on? Or should we go back?" He planted the seed in the stallions brain and tried to manipulate him to his will. It was easy after all, to get him to do what he wanted.

He wanted to see just how far he could take this. He wanted to see if the stallion would actually hear things if he mentioned them. He let out a small gasp, "Did you hear that? I heard it speak, it wants us to look into the crack." He looked at the other stallion as if he was shocked, "Do you think it's a trick?"

Now to see if the fool would take the bait. But that was stupid, he would of course.

Having not quite remembered to fold his wings away after clearing the steam Acanthus held them somewhat awkwardly outstretched as he pondered if the message could mean what he thought it did. Move on, it had said. Move on.... it could only mean just that: move on. Move on from here and now, and move on from what he had been doing, too. That had to be it, for he had already began to feel antsy about staying where he was in his life. Yes, he had found a mare that he (thought) he dearly cared for, and yes he had allowed her to introduce him into a whole new way of life, a good way of life. He in fact very much had begun to see her way of things. She was still acting sweet when she could manage, but it was becoming more often than not that her true colors were showing, her truer darker means and wants. To Acanthus, this was a steady progression, so nothing took him by surprise and indeed he was liking the changes that both of them seemed to be going through, but now that he had had his eyes opened, he wanted to use them himself. And that's what this message was telling him. It was time to move on.

Turning his head to look at Horus he had made up his mind, he was going to begin to plan how he was going to leave Fathom's herd and find his new way in life. Of course, it would be more complicated than that, as he had made some promises that he intended to keep.

As his mind was whirring with all these new progressions most of what Horus said had landed on deaf ears, so when the suggestion was made... well, it was followed... somewhat. Cocking his head, he replied, "Really?" A small furrow of his brow, now confused because he hadn't heard it say a thing since, now it was just hisses and gargles to his ears. But being curious, he did indeed tentatively lean forward and peer a little closer but as soon as he could feel the heat on his muzzle he instinctively flapped his wings, lifting himself up just a few inches, but enough to push him up and back away from the rift. Looking at Horus once more, distracted and a little concerned, he said, "I don't think it did. But... I think it's time to go now. To move on. At least for me." He wasn't sure of the other stallion's intentions anymore, but he knew he needed to get going.

Well, one couldn't have everything. If only the fissure could be a little wider...then all it would take was a little...push. But then again, one couldn't have everything. Oh well, the dupe wasn't that intelligent but he did have some innate sense that had saved him at least. That wasn't anything that Horus could help though...some just had it and some just really didn't.

"To go?" He questioned in earnest. "Are you sure? I think it meant to go on, to do more. Maybe there's more to see. I wouldn't want us to miss it...if whatever this is wants us to see it." He sighed deeply as if the thought of leaving really bothered him. It didn't that much, I mean it wasn't fun to lose one's toy...but it happens.

Acanthus took his time, not wanting to answer rashly. He waited patiently and listened to what the other stallion had to say. And though he could see that Horus wished to stay here and continue on this... well, explore of sorts, he knew deep in his heart that he was not meant to stay. At least, that's what he felt, perhaps it was just emotions, perhaps it was just something he could now cling to to explain some ideas that had been flaring up recently, but he well and truly believed he was done here.

There was, however, no reason for him to be rude to the soquili that had accompanied him on this strange and yet fulfilling journey. So he calmly replied with a firm set of nods, "Yes, I'm sure. Perhaps you have something still to find here, but I'm done here. I've found what was calling me. Maybe you still have to find what was calling to you." Strangely prophetic of him, but the words seem to fall out of his mouth without a second thought.

"Possibly," Horus mused. So this was it. The other stallion would leave, but he was right--this was only the beginning of this path. "I think there's a lot for me to do and see from here. I mean..the future is calling and all that."

Let him believe him or not. Let him think he meant it literally or figuratively, whatever the nut case wanted. He smiled. It was the same with all emotions, others believed in fate and destiny and love and hope...and crap like that, but what they didn't realize was that all of those were exactly what you made them.

You created them, you believed in them...you gave them power. But...it was just you really creating these confines and structures of rules to abide by. "So where will you go?" Maybe he'd want to find this fool again.

Another nod or two, showing his participation, but his mind was racing ahead. There was so much to mull over, so much to process before he could do anything actively to proceed. He had to find just the right way of continuing on his own destined path.

Ears twitched and his feathery wings ruffled as he shifted them, somewhat unsure of what to answer. Where was he going? Well, back to his current mate and his adoptive temporary herd, of course. But that wasn't details he particularly wanted to share. "For now... back home, but in time... in time I will find a 'Walker to kill." That was still, of course his ultimate plan, but that would be down the line, after much planning and organizing. But his wings began to itch, and he pulled them out once more lightly moving them in a simple stretch. It was time.

Horus could see he'd lost him already. His ears pricked a bit about the skinwalker...now that would be interesting, very interesting indeed. He would definitely be usable after that if he was still alive. Yes, he'd have to keep an eye on him.

"Maybe we'll meet again, find out where this lead us." On to better things, much much better things. But oh, he would promised they'd meet again if this stallion was useful.

"Good luck, Acanthus," he smiled almost a little sinisterly.
