"I... I wanted something that would compliment Atropos!" Jerry beamed when she seemed to receive the earrings well, "I... I'm glad you like them, I wasn't sure, there were a lot of options and I mean, I've never er... bought something like that for anyone before and well, Jordan and Robbie helped pick 'em out sort of but...!" He kissed her back, flushing with relief before his attention was brought to the large present and envelope.
He opened the card first, adjusting his glasses on his nose as he read quietly... and then reread it. And then read it a third time, his eyes getting glossy. "Oh... "

"Aww! You're so sweet! I love them, Jerry. Truly, I do. They're gorgeous!" Candace was beaming with joy as she reached a hand up to gently trace a finger over one of the earrings, giggling delightedly and wiggling where she was sitting.
He opened the card and she watched nervously as he read it. He sure was taking a long time to read it...? She blushed harder, growing worried as his eyes took on a glassy shine. Oh no..oh no! Was he crying!? "O-oh?" She squeaked, looking anxious now. "D..do you not like it? I can...er..I...it's not much I just..." Quite honestly Candace wasn't sure where she was doing with this.

Jerry, ____You are, without a doubt, one of the best things to happen to me. I am so lucky to have you, Jerry. More than you may know. You are the most thoughtful, loving man I have ever known. Personally I don't think these gifts are nearly enough; if I could I would give you so much more. Nevertheless I hope you enjoy these just the same! ________All my heart, ____________Candy
Jerry's eyes were watering, his lips quivering before he finally blotted under his glasses with the edge of his sheets, "It's... just... so n-n-nice!" He drew in a sharp breath, leaning in to hug her, "I suppose I should open the present before I get all sorts of ridiculous and sentimental, huh? Ahahahaha..." He gently set the note down before leaning in to give her a kiss, "It... it was amazingly nice. Wonderful, even."
And then he tore the wrapping paper.
Jerry stared at the cardboard box underneath, brows furrowing as he shifted on the bed to locate one end and picked away at the tape. At the dark shape inside, his face went white. That looked... that was a travel case for... "C-candace..."

Oh! They...were happy tears? O-okay. Candace squeaked as she was hugged but was quick to relax against Jerry with a happy sigh, sliding her arms around his middle and burying her face against his neck. He was so warm~. "I'm glad you like the note. It was kind of..strange for me to write!" She laughed nervously and gave him a little smile as she tipped her head back in time to receive and eagerly return the kiss, giggling and trying to kiss him a second time as he called her note wonderful.
When he reached for the box she let him go and moved over to give him room, offering him help with the tape--damn music store guy!--before just letting him discover the contents of the box himself. His face paled and she got nervous all over again, though she was more excited than anything else. He had to like it. He just had to. "I was told it's a really good one, and he threw in a strap and a couple picks for free. It was this or a keyboard, and a keyboard was very tempting to get mind you, but this seems more portable than a keyboard...what do you think?" Candace held her breath while she waited for his answer, eyes wide and teeth pressed into her bottom lip.

The case was pulled out reverently, set across the bed. His hands were trembling as he unlocked it, and slowly lifted the lid. His fingers touched the strings, moving along to the wooden body.
Somehow, he managed to lift it out of the case, but no sooner had he set it on his lap, lifting a hand to tune the first string, he suddenly folded down around it, shoulders shuddering.
And then Jerry really did cry.

Candace watched him quietly as he got the case out of the box, pushing the box off the bed along with the rest of their wrapping remnants. The box she had yet to open was still on her lap for now, though she did idly pick at the edges of the paper. Jerry looked...overwhelmed, awed, shocked. These were good reactions, right? Her eyes darted from his face to his hands and back again, swallowing hard and clutching the box tightly. "Jerry..?"
When he suddenly curled up and began to cry she gasped quietly. Oh no! She didn't want him to cry! "Jerry?! Baby! What's wrong?" Candace leaned over and gently placed a hand on his shoulder to try and coax him to sit up, leaning in to press kisses against his cheek and wrap her arms around his shoulders if he let her. "Shhh, don't cry. Why are you crying? Should I have gotten the keyboard..? O-or something else?" She was so confused.

"It's..." He choked, finally able to glance up before springing on her, the guitar sandwiched between them as he buried his face against her neck, "It's the n-n-n-nicest thing anyone's every done for me!! It's perfect!"

He threw himself as her and she squeaked, struggling to keep her balance before settling on just..kind of falling over on the bed. The guitar was rather uncomfortable to have pressed between them but she wouldn't push him away. But why was he--oh.
The look on Candace's face softened considerably as she gently coaxed his head up to give him a loving kiss, keeping him there until she was good and ready to let him go. Needing air seemed a good time for that. "I'm glad you like it." She said quietly, stealing one more kiss before she sat up again, tracing a hand along the body of the guitar. "I meant what I said in the card. You mean the world to me, Jerry...I'll do anything that makes you happy." Because seeing him smile was contagious. His happy-go-lucky, optimistic sparkles and rainbows view on life was something she loved about him.
Wait, loved? No, no. She didn't...no. Love was bad. It complicated things. Sure she liked hearing him say he loved her but...n-no. No love. Stop that, Candace.
"Can you play something for me?" Candace asked in hushed excitement, eyes wide and hopeful.

He sighed, taking a few moments to recover before he straightened up as well and adjusted his glasses and the instrument on his lap. "Well... well I'm a bit rusty, but... I can probably remember something..." He bought himself some time attaching the shoulder strap before gingerly moving through the strings to tune them. "A keyboard would have been nice, but it is a bit cumbersome... this... this is really perfect! Do you know any life hunters who might be able to look up guitar tabs?" There. He gave it a strum, the chord ringing through the room before he moved his hand in a quick change up. "Ooooh she sounds lovely!" He tried another cord, warming up his fingers slightly. He was no rock star. He was elementary school music teacher at best. But he seemed to at least vaguely know what he was doing by the sound of the generic sort of Spanish rift drifting up from his plucking fingers, "Any requests?"

"That's fine. I expected as much with it being so long since we were last able to have anything like this." Candace chuckled, watching Jerry get things ready. Would have been nice, huh? Maybe another time. Would they let them go off island to get Valentine's Day presents, maybe? She could get a keyboard to keep in his room! Yeah! Though at his question she paused and actually thought about anyone who could help. She wouldn't trust H, definitely not Before, maybe...Clarice? "I..have no idea. The only trustworthy Life hunter to me so far is Clarice, you'd have to find out. But for now I just want to hear what you can remember." Please oh please!
Candace looked a little confused by the 'she' sounding lovely but said nothing of it. Men were strange. His warmups made her giggle with excitement, hugging the present she had yet to open. "Ummmm! Anything! Surprise me~."

"Anything huh? Uh!" He sniffed again, wiping his eyes one more time before trying to get a grip on himself. Right. Anything. Well... well, he knew some Paul Simon and... hmm.... "Alright! Okay..." His hands began, pulling out the chords with an intricate jumble of notes before a discord- "Er... hold on, let me try again-" He started over, trying to not feel nervous, but once again his ill-practiced fingers fumbled, "Ah... one more time!" He tried one more time, and this time, actually made it past the introduction of the song, and into the words.... "I've been working on my rewrite, that's right," Jerry's voice wasn't quite as classic as Paul's but it was a good choice, he felt. It had been a while since he had done this... "I'm gonna change the ending, Gonna throw away my title... And toss it in the trash," He hesitated, glancing up to her with a weak smile to see what she thought so far before continuing before he lost his courage, "Every minute after midnight, All the time I'm spending, It's just for working on my rewrite, Gonna turn it into cash."

Candace nodded. Anything! She sat quietly, though she was practically vibrating with excitement. What would he pla--oh dear. When he hit a sour note she chuckled and smiled, nodding and not saying anything lest she make him more nervous than he already looked. Yes, one more time. As many times as he needed until he was happy with his playing. Practice makes perfect, right? Whatever made him comfortable!
When he finally did get it right she sat a little straighter, resisting the urge to bounce with excitement. This was neat! And he was singing! Oh, she loved hearing him sing for her. Her fingers idly tugged and pulled at the edges of the wrapped gift on her lap, trying not to make noise. When he smiled at her she smiled back, giggling at some of the words. No brain cells. Nice. And the chords! They were so cool! Even if he was a little slower at them than they sounded like they should be. He had warned her. "I've never heard this one before." Candace commented quietly while he was whistling, tilting her head to one side and watching his fingers. Oh yes, she was definitely glad she got him this guitar. "I like it."
Candace had managed to get half of the present unwrapped without much fuss, though she had yet to look down and see what it was. "You weren't giving yourself enough credit. I think you're really good!" She chirped as he finished the song, leaning in to give the man a soft kiss. "Thank you for the song." She smiled, leaving one more kiss against his lips before she playfully dragged a finger across the strings, giggling at the sounds that resonated from them. Maybe he could even teach her something one day!

Jerry settled back, trying to catch his breath. He still felt drained and sick but the glow and relief and familiarity of the instrument struck a chord deep down in his heart. It said... everything would be okay. "Thank you... for this. It's... it's really... I don't even think I have words for what it means to me," He managed weakly, still staring down at it's fingerboard. "I'll definitely be putting it to good use."

At Jerry's gratitude Candace giggled ad nodded her head, leaning in to brush her lips against his cheek. "Maybe next time I'll get a keyboard you can keep here in your room. I'm glad you like it." She then sat back. Alright! Time to open her prese--wait.
...Waaaaait.
This box was pink, and striped. Candace knew this pattern. Her eyes were wide as she tore off what was left of the wrapping. The box was held closed with a black ribbon looped around two opposite corners of the box, and in the middle of it were shiny gold letters that spelled out...VICTORIA'S SECRET.
Did he...did he really just...
Candace's eyes were wide as she very slowly pulled the ribbon off the box and then opened the box as if she was afraid something was going to jump out at her. Did Jerry seriously get her what she thought he got her?
Why yes, yes he did.
She gasped quietly as she gently held the thin straps of the lacy little dress and lifted it out of the box. "Oh my." Candace giggled, though she didn't sound at all scandalized or embarrassed. She was smiling. "How bold~." Candace whispered, turning the dress to hold it up against her body. "I love it, Jerry! Very, very unexpected from you." She grinned and scoot closer to him, brushing her lips against his cheek closer to his ear, whispering quietly. "Should I go try it on to make sure it fits?" Lingerie? From Jerry? She was shocked! Never in a million years could she even imagine him looking at the front of a store without running away!

Judging by how he suddenly recoiled the moment she started to open the last present, curling his legs in and hunching down until he was practically hiding behind his new guitar, it had been a tricky ordeal to obtain. "I... ah... it.... ummm... e-eight is a lot of presents and so I thought uh... that ummm... aah!" His face had gone scarlet. "I... The ladies at the store were very nice, and there was this one that was about your build and um..."
