Quinn went wide-eyed when suddenly names were being spewed at her from practically every angle. In a few minutes, she would forget every single one of them. In her past life, she was incredibly social... But since she had been Quinn, she struggled in social situations outside of the Dark Mirror gatherings. And tonight? She was struggling.
An uneasy smile crept upon her lips as she looked at the crowd gathering with the hostess, which should've been expected. "Hi Keren, and... Gardner was it?" Her head tilted slightly while she admired the girl's choice in facial piercings. She had always wanted to get something done, she just lacked the balls to do it.
Her attention snapped back to Alexij when he spoke up again and she couldn't help but laugh. "Nothing wrong with innocent crushes," her cheeks flushed a light shade of pink. "I'm flattered, really."

Keren blushed a fluorescent shade of pink that totally clashed with her eyes, her hair, her glasses, her natural skin tone, and everything on her person. If it wouldn't have been horrible for her complexion, Keren might have vowed to never wash her cheeks again. But no one looked good with pimples, least of all a fresh young flower of fifteen, so she resolved that she'd better keep to her personal hygiene, regardless of whether or not she'd just been kissed on both cheeks. (It was probably that French formality, anyways.)
Finding herself thrown into the group, Keren forced herself to put on a polite smile. (Oh! Be still, my heart!) "Hi," she offered. "It's nice to meet you. Although..." her eyes fell on Fritz. She made a confused face. "I think we may have already met in passing. Do you go to Horizon?"
Of course, Keren was conscious that most of her classmates at Horizon had been at the Surrounding with her. That was just sort of how it went, like how that useless lump Callum (who she could admit she was actually almost fond of) went to the same school as her, despite being twenty-something.
She smiled at Gardner and Quinn, and decided that both of them had lovely hair (Gardner in particular! So many pastels!) but it would be much improved by braids and ribbons and such.
Keren gave Micah's hand an excited squeeze. "Thanks for inviting me!" she grinned.

Fritz lifted a brow.
"I see I'm not the only one here from England," he said lightly to Quinn, flashing the other girl a smile. Her accent had caught his attention, and now he felt slightly less awkward about being the only male in the room so far.
Besides Micah's brother, that was.
He squeezed Quinn's fingers in a gentle handshake, then slipped his own hands behind his back, linking his fingers together as he took in the newest arrivals. A pale skinned girl with bright, blue-white hair who was introduced as Presley, followed by a purple haired girl known as Keren. Fritz gave them both a nod in greeting, smiling as he unwound the scarf from around his neck. He had meant to hand it to Micah, since she had offered to take it, but she had whisked off in favor of playing hostess, so he looped it lopsidedly over his shoulders and sat down on the couch, leaning back and crossing one leg over the other.
"Ah, yes, perhaps we have met before," said Fritz, answering Keren's inquiry with a light laugh as he pushed his unruly red hair away from his face. "I do indeed attend Horizon; I'm an art student."
It felt odd, discussing Horizon; Fritz was well aware that many of those that attended had been out on the Surrounding with him and the rest, but there could really be no telling. His double life as Celsus, a newly promoted Squire of Chronos, was of the utmost importance, and he could not afford to not be wary of those at Horizon.
But it didn't mean he couldn't be totally pleasant with them. And Keren looked about his age, which made Fritz relax a little.
"What do you study there, if you don't mind my asking?" he said, reaching out to snag a cookie from a nearby plate and munching idly on it.

"I'm doing pre-med," answered Keren proudly, also snagging a cookie. "I'm, um..." She tried to best describe herself as she munched, and settled for alluding for the reputation she'd picked up among her classmates. Rarely leaving the forensics lab did tend to get you some odd looks. "I'm the girl who tried to set up a hammock in the forensics lab so I'd never have to leave," admitted Keren, not entirely un-proud of her accomplishment. Anyone who'd seen the forensics lab and had a healthy appreciation for science would have to agree with her, though! It was a work of art. "I don't regret a thing," she assured him, popping the other half of her cookie daintily into her mouth. If given the chance, she'd do it all again! Just, this time, she wouldn't get caught. The only thing Keren missed about Crystal after the basketball team was dorming. It saved her from having to go home to Francine and Mordecai every night, which Keren was growing to hate. Being the youngest child had its serious disadvantages. "I would've gotten away with it, too, if Doctor Dinkler hadn't blown the whistle on my plan," Keren assured Fritz, and reached for another cookie. "You like Horizon so far? Where did you go before?"

"If it's nothing then why are you blushing?" Alexij smiled his sly, wicked smile that he and Micah shared. "Oh, but don't look now," Alexij murmured from his vantage point. "Looks like you've got competition." He pointed out Keren's blush to Quinn. Alexij only stopped his goading when Micah returned to the group. He grinned to Keren, inclining his head. his eyes lingered on her for a moment before he looked away, finding the bow to his left much more interesting. He'd rather be reading or pissing someone off. Someone who didn't know where he slept.
"What, so everyone knows each other," Micah interjected happily. "that's great! I mean, no awkward silences, right!" Alexij cleared his throat which made Micah's mood sour immediatley. He grinned while she glared at him. for almost a minute the stare down alsted before Micah growled, "get lost, you socially inept freak." Alexij took the out greatefully and left the room, winking at Quinn. "Remember our little chat, Quinn," he called with a wave. Micah decided that she didn't want to know and turned back to Fritz.
"Pre-med, huh," Micah asked, grinning at Keren. "Fritz is more up my alley. English and literature. I can't do anything science to save my life. Numbers and such." Micah shrugged, flopping down unceremoniously into the arm chair next to the couch. "But I can't fault you for being passionate about it," she laughed not bothering to stifle it like she would in public normally. "And I'd say go for the hammock thing again. If you love what you do, then you shouldn't be asked to leave it. Unless, of course, you were to be abducted by aliens... you know... again."

"Hey, a girl can blush at a compliment like that!" She said with a laugh at Alexij. "I think I can handle a little competition..."
Quinn beamed at Fritz's accent. It almost made her heart ache for home when he spoke, but she did her damnedest not to let her sadness show. "Mhm, I lived in London, mostly. We moved a lot, but London was always home." She munched on her cookie happily in between speaking. "It's nice to hear the accent coming from someone besides me. It's been a while since I've been back. Just over a year now, actually."
She eventually fell silent when the formalities of discussing 'back home' were done with and the crowd began talking about HITS. She knew very well (from her teammates) that the students at that school were the civilians that were up at the Surrounding. Little did any of them know that Quinn herself was up there as well, but that was neither here nor there.
She quietly excused herself from the group and made her way over to the beverages, deciding to pour herself a glass of champagne to loosen her nerves a little. She tipped the glass to her lips and took a slow sip of the bubbly drink, letting out a soft sigh of contentment. Nothing better than a little bit of liquid courage at a social gathering where you knew no one.
She slipped back up to the group, glass in hand, when the discussion about aliens came up. An eyebrow raised as she listened in silence, only taking a sip of champagne every once in a while.

"No!" Keren chirped quickly, around bites of cookie. "No more alien abductions for me. Keeping my feet firmly on the planet earth, thank you very much. I've had enough space whales for a lifetime. Turns out they're not as sweet and benevolent as the Doctor would have you believe."
She shot Micah a grin, although she might not get points for the reference because it was a recycled one from their first meeting.
Keren's eyes were then drawn to the glass of bubbly Quinn held. "Is that...?" she asked, and quickly decided that yes, it was. "There's booze at this party?" she squealed, and excused herself to go investigate the beverage selection, showing all fifteen of her years of age in the process.
What a spread! Keren couldn't believe her luck. If Leah were here, they'd decimate this bottle of bubbly in no time. Except Leah wasn't here, because Keren no longer spoke to Leah Derouen. Realizing this, she was sad for exactly fifteen seconds before pouring herself a large glass of champagne in which to drown her sorrows.
"Okay, okay, I'm back," Keren grinned, sipping surreptitiously from her glass. She was going to get in so much trouble for this, and she didn't give a ********>.

"Ah, how delightful," said Fritz, with a small laugh towards Keren. "I'm afraid I don't do very well with medicine or anything of the sort, and I'm always impressed when others can do it. Props to you, darling," he added, and raised his cookie as though toasting her before taking a bite.
Then he promptly choked as he snorted with laughter, shaking his head.
"I heard about that," said Fritz, once he'd managed to actually breathe normally once more. "I didn't realize it was you, however; that's quite amusing. And it gives me some delightful ideas for the future..."
Shaking his head, he added "I went to DCU before, er...well, then I transferred to Horizon. I find it rather nice, though I do wish they had more arts classes."
Fritz flashed a smile at Micah and added "Though to be honest, I'm less literature and more 'let's draw on the walls' sort of guy."
He gave the girl a wink, then looked over at Quinn, his expression softening a little. "My family lived in London as well - well, Mum and Dad still do. My brother and I moved here a few years back, and I haven't been back since. It's a little strange, to be honest, and I do miss it quite a bit, but I'm afraid Ollie and I haven't got the funds to return just yet."
He missed England more than he was letting on, but Fritz was not about to be the downer of a party. He nodded as Quinn excused herself, and then decided champagne sounded a delightful idea and stood as well, making his way towards the drinks table. He did not normally drink, but he strangely liked champagne better than beer (unlike most of his mates back home) and soon returned to the couch with a glass of bubbly held loosely in one hand.
"So," said Fritz, once he had made himself comfortable. "What are everyone's plans for the holidays?"

Micah was about to retort to Keren about her beloved doctor, but was cut off by her squealing. Micha's already big eyes rounded further as the girl flew up and over to the table like a child.
"You would think I set out cotton candy and she was six," Micah giggled at Fritz while Keren was gone. Still, she watched Keren delightedly as she worked, squeezing her knee affectionatley when she sat back down. "You know," she muttered, "if my parents caught you you'd be in trouble. when you get that half downed add some punch. It'll hide the champagne." She winked lightly at her friend and pulled back, returning her attention to Fritz.
"I always wished I could draw. Or paint. Or make any kind of visual art." Micah flexed her hands a little. "It would give these hands a rest from thier carpal tunnel. Typing all these years had taken it's toll on both arms." She shrugged again and relaxed her hands. "Me? Twin stuff, probably. My mom and my dad are both surgeons, so they'll be working. It's just me and Alexij this year." There was evident chagrin in her voice at the absence of her parents. "Not sure how we're going to make a christmas dinner for two, but we'll work it out."
Her small grin widened when Micah's eyes rested on Gardner. She scooted patted the arm of the chair next to her and called, "Oh dear, Gardner, come sit with us! Sorry to have left you! Tell us about your holiday plans and what not. Same goes for you Quinn, find a seat and start talking. This party was meant to make friends!" Micah trademark beam spread from ear to ear. "And Gardner, you need tot ell me where you got those peircings. I've been meaning to do my navel, but... I'm kind fo a chicken." Micah's hands rested on her sotmach then, pointer fingers circling the navel she'd just been speaking about.

Presley smiled as Micah bounded off to greet Keren. Shortly after, Quinn asked for her name again, "Actually, it's Presley, if you don't mind-- I don't use my first name often. It gets mistaken for a last name." She could just change it, she supposed, but by now it was too much trouble. Everyone who knew her well just called her Presley, or some form of Elvis.
She didn't know Keren was contemplating her hairstyle, but the sides were braided a little, under the hood of her leopard-print hoodie. She shucked it off as she smiled at Fritz in passing, revealing the silvery dress she'd chosen, with an empire waist and a grey lace bow on the back. Presley could dress up, when she wanted to. For a party, why not?
She must be out of the loop, though, because she didn't remember any of the places these people were talking about. Horizon? She held her hoodie over one arm, looking at the drinks and wondering what she would have. She couldn't talk about school, she couldn't talk about families, and she didn't know much about the kind of art they were talking about. So really, she was pretty conversationally useless, standing around and looking at the ceiling.
"You didn't leave me anywhere, don't sweat it; just got lost in my own thoughts, if anything," she replied, with an easy smile. She sat down with the others, in the seat next to Micah's chair, and draped her hoodie over the back. "Hmm? Oh, my boss did them for me," she said, with a wide grin, pushing the jewelry against her lip with her tongue. "But if you want your navel, I could do that for you, no worries," she said. Something about her lit up when she talked about piercings. She caught herself, however, and coughed in embarassment, raising one hand. She shifted in her chair: her Crystal Academy training returned to the surface, making her a pretty little lady.

"Okay," giggled Keren, sipping her ill-gotten glass of bubbly. She'd water it down with whatever Micah wanted if it meant she got to keep drinking it. Heck, she'd make mimosas for the whole group if it meant she got to keep her champagne! She kept the glass clutched close and glanced down at Micah's hand on her knee, trying to read mixed messages and body language like a drunken master after only two sips. But the hand moved before Keren could get much of a grasp on what it meant besides that she wanted it to find its way back to her knee.
"Oh, we don't do much of anything for the holidays," Keren explained to Fritz. "My parents can't be assed to figure out what we're supposed to celebrate, so we just don't do anything." Not that she minded most of the time. Keren was too science-focused to believe in silly superstitions like god. Even if she'd been abducted by aliens, she still didn't believe in silly things like an all-powerful man who controlled the universe like it was a game of Spore!
She inclined her head towards Presley, admiring her braids and her piercings, but Keren didn't think she'd ever punch holes in her face. Still, Presley had nice hair! That was something going for her. "I think my parents would freak if I came home with piercings," she rationalized.
"But you should totally do your belly-button!" Keren added, turning to Micah. "It'd be fierce!" It wasn't something she could see herself ever doing, but if her friend wanted to do it then Keren would support her all the way.

Castille loved Christmas for many reasons. The kindness towards others, the joy of family, the feeling of love among all people...and the colors! Red was her absolute favorite color, so when she spied the fliers put up for a christmas party, she knew that her dress would have to be red. So she practically danced down the street in her new favorite outfit, making sure not to mess up her hair, in it's classic twin buns. It was getting longer and harder to put up in her current hairstyle. Soon she would have to cut it or try something new. Newness wasn't a big deal to her though..
The door to the party came up quicker than she expected. She knocked once, then heard voices inside, and decided to open the door herself. Don't want to make the host leave their guest for something like opening a door! Upon entering, she marveled at the tree and the decorations, loving the red and gold without realizing the she too was dressed as the house was. Blue eyes drifted to where Micah was, and she blinked a couple times, suddenly remembering who she was. The girl form her class! And the library! Oh what fun!
"Micah!" She said, bouncing over to the girl. "I didn't realize this was your party!"

Micah eyes lit up at Presley's offer. "R-really? Do you work at a peircing parlor or something?" Oh, it all sounded so edgy and... so dangerous. "Um... well, sometime when you have a moment... do you think you could write down the name of your parlor. I'll stop by!" Granted, Micah was a little nervous about actually getting her piercing, let alone setting the idea in stone. What would her parents think? How long could she really hide a navel peircing when she strutted around the house in her nickers? Not long, that was the answer.
"Oh, first the navel peircing, next I'll want to get that tattoo Alexij and I have been talking about for years." A joke, but only half way. Micah knew that her rebelion was a slippery slope. She and Alexij had only jsut finished climbing out of the hole they'd gotten themselves into before they moved here. Keren's gentle approval didn't help her resistence at all. She patted Keren's knee again with a warm smile.
Castille's voice made Micah look up in a bit of shock. Well, wasn't this a day for surprises! She jumped up, nearly tipping over her chair, and bounded for Castille with only slightly less enthusiasm than she had run for Keren.
"I had no idea you were coming," she gushed back at Castille, slamming the girl into a tight hug. "Oh, you must tell me about any good books you've read since we last met. Oh! But first, you simply must meet everyone!" Micah bounced as she lead Castille into the living room. "Castille this is... Fritz, Quinn, Presley, and my number one lday, Keren." She pointed to each person in sucession as she spoke. "Everyone, this is Castille, by book worm buddy."

Keren, who had somehow been promoted from 'best friend' to 'number one lady' in the last fifteen minutes and was thrilled with this development, gave Castille an enthusiastic wave. She had champagne, Micah was giving her compliments and relationship upgrades left and right, and Keren couldn't possibly complain about anything tonight. Even if best friend and number one lady weren't all that different and it was the bubbly making them seem like they were. Especially then.
"What kinda tattoo do you wanna get, Micah?" she asked, drumming her anxious fingers on the side of her goblet. "An awesome one, right?" (Of course it would be awesome. Micah was going to get it.) "Maybe a dinosaur?" Keren added, after a moment's hesitation. "That would be badass. Dude, I would so get a dinosaur if you got a dinosaur with me."
Of course, thought Keren, if it was something Micah had decided on with her brother then maybe she wouldn't want a friend tagging along on it. Then they'd just have to get a different, additional tattoo! And be awesome.
"Um," said Keren to Presley, "Could you pass the cookies? When you get a chance?" Because forget dinner, bring on the pastries.

"It's an eight bit Link tattoo, on our lower backs. Link in the middle with navi on either side. Then some blue tribal marks pointing out from that." Micah grinned, not minding her nerdiness in the least. She was proud of the face that she could play through Majora's Mask in a day, and Ocarina of Time in less than that. She had the storylines memorized, but that didn't take away from the fun of the game. "Alexij and I grew up on those games, so it just seemed natural that we would eventually get a Link tattoo. It was Alexij's idea to make them tramp stamps, though." She laughed at the memory of her brother's eyes lighting up with his suggestion. "Not that he'd ever admit to the idea himself." Proud boy that he was.
At the mention of dinosaurs Micah'd heart stopped. Jurrassic Park may have been a staple during her childhood, but right now they left a bitter taste in her mouth. The words came out with more force than she anticipated. "No." Her voice was loud even in her own ears. She quickly made her recovery, clearing her throat and coughing, laying a hand on Keren's wrist for reassurance. "I mean... I'd love to get a matching tat with you. Just... not a dinosaur." She smiled shyly at her and blushed at her own mistake. "Sorry for my loudness, I put more breath behind my words than I expected.
At the mention of cookies her eyes lit up again. "Oh, but we don't just have cookies, you know!" She jumped up, trotting back and forth between the coffee table between them and the table set up for the food. "Cupcakes, and quishes, and all sorts of goodies." She grinned at everyone, setting down the last plate before her guests.
