"Ah!" Erelus beamed at the wonderful good fortune of a bronze hatching first. That bode well for a clutch! And the new Weyrleader was undoubtedly happy at such good fortune! The lad stood up tall and squared his shoulders as he looked to the bronze. One had to present oneself well, after all! Even if he didn't get picked (Though he would love to be) you had to present yourself well. It was important!
The second egg to hatch, a lovely blue from an egg Erelus remembered favoring, headed towards the girls. He wished it luck in his head and kept his eyes on the bronze.

A bronze, huh? The boys were probably pleased to see that! Whether or not any of them met its expectations, though, remained to be seen. Ralla remembered that egg well, the mocking attitude it had had. Who would be good enough for such a condescending creature?
But that was curiosity only - it was for the boys, and she was more interested in what the blue did. As it happened, the blue also seemed interested in the girls. Would he actually choose one of them, or was he simply admiring the view?

Wykla spotted Mercy and her white enter the Hatching grounds. She gave a wave to the pair. Then the sounds of cracking eggs drew her attention. A bronze had hatched first, followed quickly by a blue. That was good, and would certainly please some. She watched the dragons and the candidates.

Standing tall in the stands Kleos looked down on the eggs, a smile tugging at her horribly scarred lips. New dragons. New riders. New hope. If the red star in the skies was anything to judge by their lives would not be easy, many might be disfigured as she was or crippled or killed... and yet today they were hopeful young souls seeking their other half. Their lifemate. Their dragon. She wished each and every one of them well.

"Ooh. That's a good sign," Orlina whispered to Cyrci after the metallic dragon crushed his traitorous eggshell to bits. "A Bronze hatching first are supposed to mean a strong Clutch."
They didn't have to wait long for the temperamental Bronze to be joined by another dragon and another male. A Blue, at least, was something for some girls to hope for as well, although Orlina wasn't sure she was 'hoping' for any color in particular.
A grin split her face when the Blue looked their way and posed flirtatiously for them. What a beauty. He didn't seem shaken at all from his egg's tumble and the little chirrup he sent over to the girls was cheerful.

Z'fer watched from the stands having been deposited there by Calanoth. A flicker of amusement flashed across his face as Calanoth thrumed loudly, giddy with excitement over the arrival of new dragonets. The great Bronze was shifting from foot to foot as he welcomed the hatchlings from his perch. Z'fer sat forward in his seat as the Critically Condesending egg split open to reveal...a bronze. Not bad but not what Z'fer had expected. He kept a mental tally of the results. There were marks on the line. He grinned as Is My Middle Name revealed a Blue just as he had thought.

"You never really forget this feeling." M'cel said airily, looking down at the sands with an expression much like a pleased parent. He obviously couldn't be more proud of the clutch if his dragon had fathered it himself. Tairoth hummed up top happily, clearly focused on one thing and one thing only: The hatchlings on the ground.
The poor rider bothered by M'cel was R'ne. She squished up her mouth to one side and did her best to stoically ignore him. Gemgareth crooned to her once before he picked up the humming again. "Why are you upset? Do you not remember when you and I...
"You were a lazy dragon. Still are a lazy dragon. And you'd be annoyed too if this oaf was yapping at you."
I like Tairoth.
"You would." R'ne grimaced again. The Blackrider snickered at her.
"Though you should remember better than I. It's been some years since I stood on the sands. You're still young." He didn't speak condecendly, at least. M'cel was a friendly man. His eyes were on the sands as the eggs started to hatch. He beamed at the Bronze, but didn't pay much attention to it after that. He was focused on the Blue who was headed towards the girls.
Now there was something that made even the stoic R'ne a bit nostalgic. Blues sitting in front of the girls, greens in front of hte boys. Angrily remarking that the blues should hurry up, and a mopey little thing sitting itself in front of her....
The Bluerider sent fond thoughts up to Gemgareth. Her partner sent warm thoughts back, obviously happy. Was I really that small?
"Smaller. Runt." R'ne grinned. To M'cel she said: "You're not starin' at th'bronze? Why watch the blue?"
"Eh, found a weyrbrat that's probably mine. Gotta watch out for her."
"... The fact that you've made more of you is terrifying."

Azylrin had been spending his 'break' from chores and lessons writing a letter home. He'd not had much to really tell, but he knew his family appreciated hearing from him. Not that they responded back much (which he understood since they were usually busy). Still, it made him feel good having the small contact with his family still. And when they did respond back, it was usually worth the wait in a nice lengthy letter telling him how business had been going and what new things his mother and sister had discovered while trying a new weave.
So it took a minute for the humming and sudden activity around the Weyr to come to his attention. And when it did, the boy all but tripped over his feet in his attempt to quickly throw his writing stuff on his bed and rush towards the Sands, quickly throwing his robe on as he went. When he arrived at the entrance, there was an excited grin about his face. It was time! Oh shards this was so exciting! The shy boy didn't move up to greet any 'friends' though. That was asking too much. No, he just focused on the excitement of what was about to happen.
Walking out with the other boys, he made his bow to Feynath and took his place among the ranks of boys while looking over the eggs. There were some rocking and cracking already. And then with a crack, the first dragonet appeared. A bronze! How cool was that? No wait, a bronze and a blue! Two dragonets were on the sands now!

The bronze remained where he was for a long time, observing, judging, sitting above and beyond all these insignificant fools. A sneer found its way onto his lips as his gaze passed over the girls - never. Never ever.
That left the boys and their simpering, selfish ways and their proper admiration for his glory. It was rightly deserved, this attention, those wide eyes filled with anticipation. Walking along, head held high at first, he started towards the boys but the closer he got, the lower his head dipped and the pride gave way to a snarling, jittery uncertainty. Head swaying back and forth, he looked from one individual to the next and snapped at any fingers that reached for him.
Something was clearly wrong....
Sensing this, the blue's attention switched to his brother and he trotted up alongside the bronze, crooning with worry.

"Oh it is?" She whispered looking down at Orlina with a smile before glancing up at the bronze. A strong clutch, a fine clutch, if the bronze was too go by as Orlina said. Wher's didn't really have any sort of good luck hatching order, but that didn't stop Cyrci from taking part in the superstition of the Weyr. After all what harm was it to hope for the best?
Chuckling softly she resisted the urge to croon back at the blue, but couldn't stop the low whirrr that came with her breathing. An unconscious excited sound not unlike the dragons humming.
Hopefully these two would find there and the hatching would go off without a hitch. Thread didn't stand a chance as long as dragons were in the sky and if fate favored her this day she'd burn that gray monstrosity to ash. Narrowing her eyes anger at the thought of the skyborn menace she focused harder on the eggs willing them to hatch. Willing hers to come forward so that they might take flight together and scorch the menace of the red star bare from Pern's lovely skies.
She would not stand by. Cyrci would prove her Hold wrong even if she had to pick up a flamethrower and will herself between to burn the star herself.
After all somethings just needed burning.
Watching the blue she noticed him veer off to follow his brother. Turning her head her eyes darted to the bronze. Was something amiss?

Zeren watched the blue for a while, he couldn't help smiling at the flirtatious creature, though he himself held no attracting in girls, he could appreciate a handsome woman or a pretty girl. He moved his attention to the Bronze as he moved towards him and the other boys, he moved politely to the side and out of the Bronze's way since he knew it wasn't for him, he didn't mind and when the Bronze began snapping at fingers and hands, he was glad he had stepped aside, He was worried at the change in his behaviour... was the boy for this dragon... not here? That would mean he would go Between and that wouldn't be as lucky as his hatching first, had been, the first hatchling ... going Between? he sure hoped not. Oh here was his Blue brother, crooning at him, surely between the two they could find the Bronze's partner. He really hoped so because this proud little creature ... it would be a shame to lose him. Zeren didn't want to admit he cried for each dragon lost before it had even found it's Partner, though he was sure many others did.

Hmm. When the blue's attention shifted to his bronze brother, so did Ralla's. Could it be that there was no one among the boys who was good enough for the metallic? That would be...unfortunate, to say the least. While she wasn't, in general, interested in hatchlings who wouldn't be interested in her, she certainly didn't want anything bad to happen to them.
Perhaps, somewhere in the group, there would be someone who met his standards.

Z'fer overheard R'ne and M'cel's conversation with a grin. He thanked the first egg that so far, no brats had showed up looking a little too familiar. Shells, there had been plenty of opportunities for it to happen. He thought of the last flight...he hadn't won but the woman who he'd taken to bed had been a very agreeable partner. He'd have to keep an eye on her green.
Calanoth crooned to the hatchlings on the sand, his eyes taking on a hint of anxiety as the Bronze grew more aggravated. Z'fer frowned and shook his head, this didn't bode well. Usually a bronze hatching was a good thing...but if it went between...That was the last thing this Weyr needed.
~ He won't...He'll find His.~ Calanoth reassured his rider.
~If you're sure...~ Z'fer continued to watch, keeping his own doubts to himself.

Oh Seyari was going to GET it this time. He had been working chores late into the night last night, and had completely overslept this morning. All of which culminated in a very rude awakening when someone ran through the barracks screaming about the hatching. The HATCHING. Shards, he was going to fry if he was too late to this one! Scrabbling for clothing, he ran faster than he thought he was capable of running, arriving on the Sands just long enough to catch his breath before being shoved into a robe, and pushed along to Stand with the other boys. At least he wasn't DREADFULLY late... He missed the revealing, but was in utter awe as the hatchlings started to get their bearings about them. Awe that completely blew away any and all worries he might have had at that moment. How could he be upset? There were two new dragons in the world, two new lives that ached for a match. A proud bronze, and his equally as proud blue brother, searching for theirs among those gathered at the sands. And to think he'd almost been too late to witness... this beautiful sight. It was such an honor and a privilege to Stand now, that he barely even noticed the other Candidates, although he did briefly nod or wave to acknowledge the ones he'd seen in hallways, or briefly chatted up during classes.
All of that seemed to matter little now, as his eyes followed the two newly-hatched. Maybe his dragon lay within one of those shells... Maybe his life was about to change forever...

His easygoing mood was quickly dropped when the bronze started to act up. Being full of himself and lording it over everyone? That was a proper bronze behavior. But the change in demeanor? It didn't happen often, but dragons did go Between if theirs didn't present themselves, right?
"Oh, no." Erelus said to himself, grimacing and squaring his shoulders again. Maybe if he could be better, the Dragon wouldn't be so upset? He watched a neighbor get snapped at and waited paitently. "C'mon, c'mon... Look us down, head to the stands!"
---
Observing, M'cel didn't pay attention to those around him. He watched the little blue as it went over to comfort the bronze. Ehn. A delay in impression because the Bronze needed comforting?
Do not be hasty. This needs to be a good time! Hope for good things, Marcy!
"I know, I know..." The Blackrider sighed. R'ne went back to ignoring him, giving a nod to the rider nearby. What was his name? Something odd.
"Good hatching day." She said by way of greeting, voice gruff. THere was no friendliness here! Perhaps because of M'cel's chatter. Or maybe she was always nasty? Who knew!
