"It's different. You look normal, you are not a monster. Do not say you understand." It was harsh to admit these things, but the reapers? They were pretty, they were attractive. Some people found monsters attractive, sure - but not Chuppi. She was a pet, nothing more.
She was patted, she was fed. She was called cute, but never hugged nor kissed nor called beautiful.
She was a pet.

He fell silent, staring forward. "I have no awesome natural form. I'm not as strong as an undead, or as fast as a monster, without my guitar I can't even use FEAR. And I still don't know any spells, or any of that stuff that's supposed to make reapers badass. But I like you, Choops. You know I do."

"You were treated like a pet? I am a pet. People feed me, pet me, call me cute. I am never called pretty, or beautiful. I am never kissed, or hugged. I...." She shifted on the branch, ignoring the sound of cracking that her weight was causing. "You will grow, I am...almost full grown. My kind we mature rapidly, but I am runt. In a years time, I will be an adult."
It was true, she'd be...twenty-one come her next aging, if it was at all feasible to anyone else, but that wasn't the point. "You escaped from the gang and past yes? You are learning yes? You are fine, better off. You will be loved."
The branch groaned again.

"I think you're pretty," he said, looking a bit surprised she thought differently. "But... I dunno, is this even your real form?" he asked her curiously. "And what does how you look like have to do with anything? You think people only love other people because of their looks? And sure I'm away from them NOW..."
He moved a bit, looking uncomfortable, but it wasn't over the tree limb. "Just cuz I'm in school right now doesn't mean I'm out of the gang," he told her softly. "Don't tell anyone, okay? But if I ever DO wanna leave the gang, and I'll probably try when I get out of school, they're gonna beat me to death. It's called bein' drummed out in my gang, don't know what they call it in others."

"You won't die if they beat you to death, you respawn in the school." Chuppi's words were innocent and matter-of-factly. She never figured life outside the school and dying from being beaten - passing on from old age was common enough and she'd never thought about reincarnation or respawning or whatever came with that. Still, dying from an attack when you're an adult never seemed to click and she was going to keep it that way.
"And this form is unnatural - it is forced. My true self is much uglier, less 'cute'." At the question about people liking only for looks, she didn't even hesitate. "You're saying it's not true? I can believe it's true because people go for a pretty face - it is the nature of the beast."

"Still ain't lookin forward to it," Roch said with a shrug. "And hell if I know what people go for, but if they're shallow jackers that only focus on the face, then they damn well don't deserve you, or your love."
What else was he supposed to say? He really sucked at comforting people. "But hell, since I can't do anything right here, I'll let you throw your own pity party," he told her with a sigh, dropping down from the tree. "I like you a lot, Choops, but I guess some random boil that's only interested in pretty faces matters more."

"DON'T YOU SAY THAT. DON'T YOU LEAVE ME!" The branch snapped just the same moment Chuppi's words finally did, and the shrieked as it gave way beneath her and sent her tumbling down to the ground.
She didn't even have time to think before she made a hard contact, her whole body stunned. That really, really, was a bad idea and it really, really, hurt.

He sighed turning and crouching down in front of her. "Breathe," he said softly. "I know it's hard, but don't panic, just breathe," he told her, not touching her, he didn't want to distract her from getting her breath back. "Is the pity party over yet, lil sis?" he asked her. "Cuz I was plannin' on coming back after it was."

She was silent but awake, and it well. she hated having the air knocked out of her - this was the second time! It was just as scary as the first and it was all because of her carelessness again, and Chuppi sat up quickly and latched herself onto Roch, not caring that she could barely breathe properly and he was probably angry at her for this goosechase. Instead she wailed (a good sign she was breathing okay) and hot tears ran from her eyes like someone had opened a faucet.
"Uwaaaaahhhahahahahaha!!!" Her words weren't even words, just noise, and probably for the first time since she'd been rejected, Chuppi was crying. She'd kept it all inside for so long, but now? Now she just wanted to cry.

He fell back, grunting a little at her weight, then reaching up and patting her head. "It's okay, screechie," he said quietly, letting her cry. "Let it all out. You wanna cry, you jackin' well cry all you can," he told her.

Well she didn't really need his permission because she was going to cry anyway until she felt like she was entirely done with all the sobbing. She didn't care that her claws were digging into Roch's arms and that she was probably drawing blood, nor did she care that she was making his clothing gross with tears and snot. Thankfully she wasn't wailing, just sobbing, so he didn't have to worry about her cries reaching the pitch that would make him puke.
The last thing she needed right now was to make her big brother vomit everywhere while trying to comfort her. She didn't know for how much longer she was going to cry either, probably until she passed out. Chuppi would be hard to move then if she did, poor Roch.

"Yeah," he said with a little smile. "I felt a little like that the first time, too," he told her. He would just... deal with the seriously heavy little sister if she passed out on him, he figured. As it was, he was wishing he could find out who it was so he could hunt the b*****d down and beat the living hell out of him for making Chuppi cry.
But it didn't work like that. He didn't want anyone beating up Xiu for what happened with her, he seriously doubted Chuppi would want her ex crush beat up. It was probably a good thing he'd gone through the Xiu situation, otherwise he'd have no clue.
