It was in that moment that Kam realized what was happening between them and for all that it should have terrified him, for all that it should have caused him to leave as soon as understanding settled over him, he could only find comfort.

They spoke with no words.

They understood without meaning.

As her body clung to his he responded, wrapping his arms tighter around her frame and holding her against him like he depended on her to give him the air to breathe. His eyes shut against the world around him, against the apartment that had become a shrine for all that was changing in his life, and pressed her down into the couch cushions until he could feel her entire body flat against his own.

He caught her lips with his own and in that moment, passion flared between them unlike any he had felt in years. For the first time since he'd left, he let someone take his pain away from him and heal the first piece of his fractured heart.

It was in that moment that he knew he could never let her go.
