There was a very serious frown, followed by a less serious frown, followed by a look of complete confusion. Or well, Caelius might have blinked a few times extra, and set his cup down.
"Who's Spencer?"

"Isn't he your son, sir?" Reine blinked, confused. "Spencer Claus?"
Wait.. was that.. his.. name? How did she know him? There was a mental image of Eva throwing a fruitcake at.. someone, who fell over on the street and into a puddle of.. red wine. Or was that mulled wine? Mulled wine sounded more christmassy.

"Yeah! Your son--no. Wait a minute. Wait a minute." Eva suddenly looked very serious, or as serious as a girl drugged up on Joy could when she was holding a skewer with a flaming ball of sugar at the end, "Reine, that...that can't be right! How can Santa's son be the Grinch?"
Something was very, very wrong with that thought. There was no way that Santa--wonderful, jolly, fat old Santa--could be the father to the monster who tried to steal Christmas! Unless...
Leaning towards Reine, she lowered her voice to a whisper. "I wonder if our job was to show Spencer what the meaning of Christmas was."

Caelius was pretty sure he didn't have a son. But, in retrospect, it could have happened, when one believed hard enough and wished with all their heart, anything could happen.
'Actually, master I'm pretty sure that's not how-'
"The power of wishing made it so," he filled in, "And so, he came to his own demise. A fitting end for those who dare oppose Christmas." The last words were said in a sort of stunned revelation as he stared into the fire as if it held the answer to all of his Joy-addled questions.
A few minutes later, still sitting in a rather upright position, the Death Hunter leader had fallen asleep.

"It's like that in movies," Reine insisted. "Amazing parents, son goes rogue, and then the heros come and defeat him and order is restored!"
A short pause.
"To CHRISTMAS!!!"
Reine lifted her own marshmallow skewer and did a sort of high-five with Eva's, though she made sure not to marshmallowbump the flaming one. That didn't look too delicious. Happily chewing on her own marshmallows, Reine listened again as Caelius.. muttered something else.
"Okay."
Reine nodded sleepily at Caelius. A fitting end for those who dared oppose Christmas- that meant she and Eva had done the right thing after all! Whatever it was that they had actually done. Reine looked at Evie and smiled, then moved to cuddle up with the other girl.
"That was a nice bedtime story." She waved at Caelius from the other side of the fire. "Merry Christmas, Santa."

"So in the end, it's happy ending!" ...For Christmas, at least. She wasn't entirely sure what happened to the rebel child, BUT ALL THAT MATTERED WAS THAT CHRISTMAS WAS SAVED, right? Though speaking of child...
In the back of her mind, Eva wondered who the mother (father?) to Spencer Claus had been. Her gaze was scrutinizing as she stared at Caelius, though after a few seconds ticked by, her eyes suddenly widened in realization.
Oh my god.
Maybe Caelius was like the Virgin Mary.
There was a new awe and respect in her eyes as she stared at the man, and when he dozed off, Eva actually panicked. He couldn't doze off here! It wasn't warm enough! Sure, there was a fire, but what if it went out in the middle of the night? And there were no blankets around either...
Finally blowing out her flaming marshmallow, she stuffed the whole thing in her mouth, her voice muffled as she turned to Reine. "Rwine, Rwine! We haff twoo keep Mwary warm!" She dragged the girl up with her, leading her over to Caelius' side of the table. Eva helped Reine up onto one side of the man while she hopped up on the other side. It wasn't until she took his arm and lean against him did she finally relax. Mary should be warm enough now that two of the three Wise Men (where was Otto?) was bundled up beside her him.
Eva allowed herself to close her eyes then, trying to get comfortable so that she could drift to sleep. The tiny part of her mind that wasn't affected by the Joy prayed that the Joy-effects would still be in play by the time Caelius woke up. If not...
...Well, hopefully she and Reine got up first.
