"Three..." She blurted out and then blushed and shuffled her hooves, having nuzzled and hugged him back as best she could. Murmering after her outburst, a little more controlled and contrite. "I counted 3 things..." Giving him a sheepish smile. She would need control and disapline, these were at least things that could be learnt with time and patience, he hadn't been wrong in calling her a wild card, though she was more in need of excitement. She found the sheltered environment of the herd boring, and while not likely to run around and beating others up for no good reason, neither did she want to have her ear talked off abot herbs, or the many uses for a thin tree branch, or heaven forbid foals... She knew her mother was a midwife but grossed out was the only thing that had been clear about Heze's thought on that job... Sure stab a skinwalker no trouble, didn't bother her really... But birth and all that which came before... nuh uh.... she would pass... foals once they were running around on their own.... those she liked.
Though she was unaware of it her reactions were clear, whatever she was thinking bout she went from happy excited smile, to bored stupid, to grossed out to smiling. Though it told him nothing of what she was actually thinking it might spurr some questions.

"Is that so...?" He asked playfully, tilting his head to the side. She was right, he smiled wider; perhaps there was hope for her yet. After all it was just as important that his protectors had the courage to tell him when he was wrong, or to update him with more accurate information. A good sign indeed. "It seems you are right, seems I am getting less able to count in my old age." He chuckled softly before watching the energetic little mare prance and dance with glee, her expression changing from time to time as she fell into a world of her own.... if only he could see what she was thinking. Something told him it would be a rollercoaster of a ride.
After a little while he coughed softly, attempting to bring her back to the here and now... at least for a little while. "I suppose focus will be another thing you will have to practise, but we have time. All the time in the world." It was a half truth, a glimspe of hope.... in truth you never knew when you would be attacked, when something would steal you away, or what things would distract you. But that was a conversation for when she was much older.
"For now," he started, turning his attention away from her and to the forest surround the area, "I have a small task for you. Answer me this." He paused for a moment returning his attention to her, his eyes soft and gentle, lose of a carer. "What wears clothes in the summer, when it's too hot to scold? But wears nothing in the winter, when the wild winds blow?" He waited to see if she could figure it out. After all, a good fighter was a smart fighter, adaptive and capable of using their own initative.

Heze was dragged away from her thoughts. She looked at Maion and pondered the answer to the riddle, or proverb or whatever it was. Her lips pursed as she thought about it, still shifting on her hooves, she had trouble keeping still it seemed. Clothes, summer, naked winter... She had no idea so said the first thing that popped into he rhead. "A tree?" Looking to see if she had to guess again after her answer.

Maion smiled at Heze, "That's right... but," he looked down at her, "I have a feeling that was a random guess?" He had only guessed that from the way she held herself and the look that crossed her expression for a moment before it faded again. "Still," he teased, "Being lucky is nothing to look down on."

Heze shook her head. "Not a guess persea, its just the only thing I could think of that did what you said... But neither was it a well thought out reply." She grinned, it having been a bit of luck and smarts, but what was she to know, there mght have been something else that she didn't know about.

Maion nodded to her, "Good enough." He looked around; the forest was cool and quite and he could see the snow threatening to leave the clouds. He grinned, "How high can you fly Heze?" Heze may look like a pure Angenicorn but he knew she wasn't, after all his own mate was a grounded mare with mutant genes and her father was also from a grounded parent -it didn't mean much, after Maion believed that genes didn't make the man, or in this case girl, but it did have an affect on high they could fly.... thr purer the blood the higher you could fly. Maion's angeni genes had always been stronger, so much so that his healing was rather pathetic.... he had only ever been able to hold someone while someone with stronger healing magic took over.

Heze shrugged. "I've never gone to see how high I can go." She had as high as she wanted or needed to. Beyond that she had never hiven it much thought. "Why?"

Maion looked to the sky for a moment, sure that he could feel a sudden drop.... "How you fancy trying to join me to greet the snow?" He would watch her like a hawk, and since he was still so much larger than her he would ensure she returned to the ground safe and sound. He would never place her in danger... not simply because she was his grandaughter, but because it was the right thing to do.

"Snow?" She looked up excitedly, trying to see what he saw. "Its going to snow??!!" Grinning a huge smile she pranced a little, her wings that would look more at home on him spreading, ready to take off.

"I will take that as a yes," he chuckled and beamed down at her... some the land would be covered in snow, the lake iced over. And although it was a tough time for a herd, supporting so many in one place through such harsh conditions it had always seemed so magical to Maion. This year would be no different, more so perhaps with his children and grandchildren around him. If he had been told last year that he would have grandchildren he would have said they were lying, a the time he had known little of Sonnet and Chandra trying, and even less about Io and her mystious stranger.... things changed quickly. He spread his wings, all four snapping to attention with a graceful bow. His wings were large and powerful, and the main reason why he could reach the heavens. He had always taken them for granted, until he met his mate.... then he had sworn to walk everywhere to be like she was... of course that was denying himself to grow, denying a huge part of himself... he only truely realised that when two of their children had been gifted with the wings of flight. And now... his grandchildren did too. Flying was as intergrated into his systems as breathing was. "Ready?" He asked, preparing himself to take off at a moments notice but wanting to ensure that Heze left the ground first. He had watched her trying to learn to fly, and had times she had struggled.... just like her mother once had. He smiled at the memory, that was how Sonnet had first came into his life... a scrunny looking foal with oversized wings and a severe lack of knowlegde on how to use them.

Heze had actually not had such a hard time with the flying, once she had gotten the basics. Her father having told her to ak her mother for lessons as he had agreed to help teach her a few things about being a protector, though she had still been very young at that point so it was all very basic. But she had had some mishaps, but she had tackled the task fearlessly. So with a solid jump and a good flap of her 4 large wings she took off from the ground, starting to climb knowing he would soon be following her. Showing no sign of fear or worry as she got higher.

Maion nodded respectfully as he lifted off himself, his much larger wings ate the air space between them until he was close by, always keeping an eye on the currents and undertones of the air... snow was unpredicatble, and usually eh wouldn't advice attempting to fly in... at least when it was fully snowing, but this was a treat.... "Keep your eyes peeled...." He said, noting the distinct difference in temperature.... a single sloppy drop struck his nose before running down it in a melted track upon his pelt. "Can you feel it?" He asked, instincting wanting him to close his eyes and enjoy though his protective urge wouldn't allow him to relax completely... you never knew.

Heze didn't have any such qualms, she was quite happily gliding under the clouds as the snow starts to fall. Her tongue out, catching snowflakes on it as she flies. Quite happy to dip and glide, circling round and under him only to climb again, laughing as she climbed only to glide and catch more snowflkes on her tongue. "Yes!" Giggling happily.

Maion was pleased to see her so free and happy, it lifted his spirits and reminded him WHY he did this, why he was a protector and guardian, why he wanted to give those under his protection the best life they could, to allow them to wander and be free rather than simply 'caged' animals.... yes, the joy he could feel radiating from his grand daughter made it all worth it. He couldn't help but join in her excitment, spinning softly so that the currents created by his massive size didn't harm Heze. It was sometime during the fun and excitment that the snow truely started.... it started off as single flakes before they started to clump getting heavier and heavier until the very ground below them was painted white.

Heze had stopped and was hovering, her wings flapping as she looked down at the white below. Her eyes wide, not havign seen anything like that before. "It looks like clouds...." Looking from the ground to the clouds over them. "Like things got turned upside down." Looking over at her grandfather as she hovers.
