Not bad. It was hardly fluid - she looked rather awkward - but she'd followed instruction competently for a first go. Aulus permitted himself a bit of a grin. "We can work on pronunciation later, and introduce you to all the other funny sounding words too." That probably wasn't politically correct 'funny sounding' but it wasn't as if there was anyone around to bollock him about it, and if somebody did show up out of the blue then maybe he'd demonstrate a few more advanced, more interesting moves to Tam.
"Okay, arms," Aulus nodded, "this is called 'yoi' position, it pretty literally means 'ready'. It puts you in a good position to start off other techniques basically. For yoi you hold your arms slightly forward with your fists closed. Fists point slightly to the centre line and are roughly half a shoulder width apart, and your elbows should be bent slightly." Rough explanation given Aulus demonstrated the position, which felt a lot easier and more fluid than actually trying to describe things. He was just used to doing stuff and wasn’t really comfortable with verbal descriptions, but if he wanted to teach classes he was going to have to learn to talk the talk as well as kick the arse.

Well from her point of view, politically correct or not, they /were/ funny sounding, so she wasn't going to raise an objection to the phrase. Still, learning how to pronounce it all properly was going to be a good thing to learn; she actually rather looked forward to that too.
Arms. Good. She'd been wondering what she was supposed to do with those now that she was stood like, she supposed, some kind of novice skier. The actual demonstration, though it was certainly not a fault of Aulus' description, was much more helpful than just hearing it talk about was. Tambrey could follow the directions, but it didn't mean she'd get each bit quite write and if too much was a little off, the stance would probably look very awkward. "Yoi." She repeated as she adjusted her initial attempt to try and better reflect what Aulus was doing. Her elbows were still a little too bent and in concentrating on getting her arms right, she slightly lost some of the bend at her knees, but once she'd settled, she wasn't -too- far off. It, at least, resembled what Aulus was doing. "... 'S a lot to think of," She noted "even before the whole... fighty bit. I's still t'do with discipline?" She found herself interested by the 'whys' and such of the stances. At his explanation of it being a position to lead in to other techniques she smiled with understanding. "Ah. 'S for convenience..."

Aulus nodded. "Convenience, yea, that's apt enough I suppose. The stance basically puts you in a good position to react to whatever gets thrown at you. Also gets you laughed at by your standard thug, of course, with makes it even more hilarious when you send them running home to mummy. It is a lot to think about though," he nodded assent to that, "I'm not expecting you to remember all this stuff right away; I certainly didn't when I started, and nor has anyone else I've ever seen. It gets more natural though, just like anything else."
Humm, right, now what? Probably time for some basic strikes and stuff, she seemed to be holding the stance well enough for now and they could refine as they went along. "Right, feel ready for doing some strikes now?"
There was a long way to go but so far so good. Maybe he wouldn't be too bad at this teaching lark after all.

'Laughed at by the standard thug'? So... It served as a tool to make one's opponent underestimate them as well. She hadn't really considered it 'looking silly' until that point, but still held the stance as instructed.
"I've got t' admit, I've never actually been a 'natural' at anything, so it might be a little while before I'm not forgetting stuff without prompts..." The grunt warned but seemed almost comfortable with what they'd gone through so far all the same. She nodded when Aulus asked about strikes. /This/ sort of thing was what she'd wanted to learn in the first place- though she seemed to understand the need for the stances and formalities so far.
"Definitely." She would likely be rather clumsy at them, but at least the enthusiasm was there.

Aulus cracked a grin partially at her warning, partially at her enthusiasm and shrugged his shoulders. "Don't worry about it, we'll get there; you'll be kicking arse and taking names before you know it." She didn't seem like a bad sort really. Maybe he'd get something out of this too; it would be nice to make more friends. "Right then, moving on...."
