Her foot soared, but missed her intended target as the zombie unexpectedly lurched to the side. It hadn't been intentional, but Vitahli wasn't going to wait long enough to correctly determine that. Turning, she moved towards a nearby stacker of rubber bouncing balls and upturned the entire crate as behind her the zombie pushed itself upright on wobbly arms-- Zero Zombie Army:AC: 13 HP: 56

The balls bounced harmlessly aside, but if anything Vitahli hoped that it would at least slow down her attacker. Zombies afterall, weren't known for their stellar motor-functions and zen-coordination. Zero Zombie Army:AC: 13 HP: 56 -Sugar Plum Rollies failed-

Looking behind her once more, Vitahli saw that the bouncing balls worked to stall the zombie, but she and the red haired boy would need to hustle out of the store as quick as they could. But after she grabbed that tee-shirt top the impudent zombie from before hand daringly fingered. Zero Zombie Army:AC:13 HP: 56

Making her way quickly to the display case the boy was hiding behind, she reached around the edge with her arm and grabbed a handful of t-shirt.
"Owwie! Lady, you're being mean," the child cried petulantly. Vitahli gave him an apologetic, but grim smile.
"Where are your parents, young man?" She asked him in her most motherly voice. The kid blinked big sky blue eyes at her. Raising his hand from his side, he responded to her by squeaking a rubber duck in her face. The rubber, yellow colored animal squeaked once, twice before descending once again to the boy's side in a tight hand-hold.
Vitahli blinked. "I'm sorry sweetie. But I don't, um, speak duck. Could you say that one more time for me?" She asked the child.
"Mommy was working on cath-o-logs, and said that she had to get something from the back. She said she would be right back," the child sniffed in discomfort, as Vitahli saw the beginning of tears welling in his eyes.
"Shh, shh baby, I'm sure she's around her somewhere. What's your name, kiddo?" Hoping to take the boy's mind off of his mother, Vitahli probed the question quickly and shot a look behind her. It looked like the zombie was starting to make progress towards them--as where the others.
The boy seemed to notice to, for he answered right away, "Peyo. What's your name, lady?" Frightened and inquisitive eyes darted a quick glance in her direction, before swiftly turning back to the zombie wobbling its way over to them. Both Vitahli and Peyo took measures back behind the counter which acted as a divider between them and the back end of Ruby's Rack.
"My name is Vitahli, sweetheart."
"Its nice to meet you, Mrs. Vitahli. Mommy said I should always say that after meeting a new friend. But not a stranger. Piyo and I never talk to strangers," Peyo babbled nervously as he fingered his toy yellow duck, Piyo.
"You're mother gave you some sound advice," she agreed.
"What're we going to do about the icky-things?" Peyo breathed nervously. Vitahli was looking around for a suitable weapon in response to his inquiry. Spotting the handle of a bat, she quickly grabbed Peyo by his small shoulder and hurried him with her over to it. Pulling it out of a container full of mismatched umbrellas and yard sticks, Vitahli was slightly dismayed to discover that the bat was, at most, a heavily plastic toy.
"That one makes sounds like swoosh, swoosh, when you swing it," Peyo chirped distractedly, as Vitahli took a quick few practice swings. Not the best weapon for slaying zombies, but she reasoned it would last them well enough to get out of the store.
They both turned as a low, groan traveled to their collective ears from the front display case. That blasted zombie had already reached them!
Peyo surprised Vitahli as the boy darted out past her, her attempt to grab and haul him back missing, before rearing back his arm and pitching Piyo as hard as he could at the zombie.

The bat whipped through the air straight at the temple of the undead beast. With a sickening crack, the bat made contact against dead flesh and a now-concave temple. Grimacing, Vitahli shook her swinging arm out as tingles ran marathons along the filamentous patchwork of nerve cells in her forearm, watching the zombie fall over--truly dead, now--to the ground.
Peyo whooped with pride, before dashing forward to grab Piyo off the ground. Vitahli took no time before she reached out to grasp Peyo's hand.
"Lets go find your momma, Peyo," she suggested, and the boy gave a firm nod in return.
"She went that way," he indicated with his forefinger towards a back door further along the counter they were currently stationed at-- Zero Zombie Army:AC: 13 HP: 44

The zombie staggered as Piyo landed a harsh planting in its face, and the momentary distraction allowed Vitahli to swing wildly at its temple. Crippled, the zombie swayed on its feet, both Peyo and Vitahli looking on with abated anxiety, when it toppled over to the ground.
Prodding it with his left foot, Peyo announced with awe, "Its down-down for good, Mrs. Vitahli."
Vitahli, wide eyed, replied absently, "good, good..." before responding to Peyo more encouragingly, "we make a great team, Peyo. You with Piyo and me with this bat."
Peyo smiled a wide, infectious grin and the two stepped over the dead zombie gingerly, before continuing on towards the back door. Zero Zombie Army:AC: 13 HP: 25

They made it safe enough to the back of the store at the red door, when Vitahli reached out to push open the door. It budged a few inches, before stopping. Sending each other confused glances, Vitahli moved to press her should up against the door and heave. Peyo caught on immediately and scouted up beneath Vitahli to help her open the door.
Counting down to three out loud, Vitahli and Peyo then heaved with all their might-- Zero Zombie Army AC: 13 HP: 25

The door gave with a final shove from the two of them, giving away so suddenly that Vitahli and Peyo both found themselves toppling through the door to land painfully on the ground.
Each recovering, they both instantly recoiled away from what had been hindering their processes with the door---another dead zombie.
Shooting each other glances, Peyo reached out his little hand in a high-five motion, which Vitali readily returned. Standing up, she brushed her legs off before reaching over to help haul Peyo to his feet. The boy then walked over and leaned downward to pick up Piyo, whom had went flying from his hand, during the door-shoving match.
Vitahli picked up her toy bat and moved to secure the backdoor in order to keep the other zombies in the main lobby of the shop, out.

They pushed past stacks of unpacked backstock, and wove their way around extra equipment and other miscellaneous items. Moving towards the back of the stockroom, Peyo led Vitahli down through a narrow hall that he said his mother's back office was located. As they reached the middle of the hall, they both felt their hearts jump when a loud shout penetrated the card-stock walls, followed by an unhealthy groan.
Moving swiftly Vitahli pushed ahead towards the door of the back office where light was peaking through. Pushing it open roughly, Vitahli threw an arm out to keep Peyo from rushing in as she and the boy saw a blonde haired woman swing an office chair at a zombie that had somehow managed to find its way into the back room

The chair swung harmlessly as the very lucky zombie managed to preform a very lucky lurch just then, slipping just barely underneath the chair. A few scraggy hairs fell out from their follicles from the back-wind.
Ruby let out an enraged growl as the chair went flying into the north facing wall of the office. A giant hole was the result of the unfortunate moment between wall and chair, pieces of broken stock crumbling to fall inward and exposing the wooden framing and electrical wiring of the building.
"Mommy!" Peyo shouted loudly, attracting the attention of both Ruby and the zombie. The zombie saw an opportunity then to take a sudden swipe at the surprised and distracted Ruby.
Whipping her head around, Ruby's eyelids flared open, nostrils widening in a moment of fear at the hand reaching for her face in slow motion, before a now-familiar duck went soaring into her peripheral towards the unsuspecting undead creature-- Zero Zombie Army:AC: 13 HP: 17 -Piyo Summon failed-

The duck failed to do much more than bounce off the side of the zombie's face, taking with it some bits of skin and mucous. But the zombie had whipped its head back around, only to stagger back as Ruby's fist made contact with the hollowed cheek of the undead creature. Fascinated, she watched its eyes roll, before the hearing the voice of the other woman holler out loudly, "get back!"

The bat made a sickening crunching sound as plastic met with wet, sickly flesh in a resounding slurch. Pulling the bat free, Vitahli watched as the zombie collapse to the ground, dead.
Taking a look at her bat, she noticed that a visible crack that had developed in the center. Frowning, she realized she would have to find a new weapon soon, because this slugger wasn't going to do her much good for longer.
Turning to look at Ruby, Vitahli quickly raised one hand and introduced herself, as Peyo flew to his mother's side.
