It would take her about 10 minutes to walk to the coffee shop. Wayne had said he'd meet her there in half an hour, so that meant she had twenty minutes to kill. She tried reading her book again, but realized that wasn't going to work when she had to re-read the same sentence and still didn't comprehend it. All she could think about was Wayne. Glancing in the mirror, she regarded her reflection with apprehension. Did she look okay? Her hair was pulled back into a messy braid. Was it too messy? God, she was never this self-conscious.
Finally it was time to leave. She tore herself away from the mirror, it was only making her feel worse after all, and pulled on her coat and donned a scarf before she hurried her way toward the coffee shop. Her stomach was twisting into knots and she almost turned back around as she reached the door. Taking a deep breath, she opened it and stepped inside out of the cold, gold eyes darting around to single out Wayne. Please, please let him be there. She needed him to be there.

The bat had been sipping his quad caffeine-sugar monstrosity and looking at the door. He looked down from time to time and fiddled with the hem of his shirt. And when he looked up...
God, she was beautiful. Everything about her. Had he forgotten just how lovely she was, or had she just gotten prettier? He awkwardly stood up and strode over, clearing his throat.
"Lule?" The bat paused and held out his arms, coffee monstrosity forgotten on his table.

"Wayne." She hesitated when he held out his arms to her, still angry and hurt, but when she saw the cuts on his hands and face, her breath caught in her throat. What in the world had he been doing?! She hurried over to him and threw her arms around his neck, giving him a tight hug before stepping back to cup his face in her hands.
"What happened to you?" she asks quietly, her eyes going soft. "You look different. And you're hurt..."

Wayne hugged her back when she allowed it, his grip tight as he dared. He'd missed her..! Wayne gently held onto her wrists when she cupped his face, smiling down at her. It was so good to see her.
"I... Got a lot of training done." He cleared his throat a bit. Wayne was oddly content to just stand there now, looking down at her. "It was a long family thing. I... It's hard to explain. I missed you."
Words were coming harder now that she was there to look at. He tried, though. For her. "We were off world. Yenno, magic portals and all that crap. I... I wanted to let you know. I didn't want you to worry. We just... Got spirited off quick. I'm sorry."
"I'm so, so sorry for worrying you, for hurting you, and if you'll let me I'll do anything to make it up to you."

Everything was okay now. It was how it should be. She smiled up at him, tearing up a little. She didn't understand much of what he was saying--really, was her family the only "normal" family in HyTech?--but it was okay. It didn't matter anymore, as long as he was here.
She moved to give him another hug, burying her face in his shoulder. She breathed in his scent, smiling wide. "It's okay. I'm just so glad you're back and you're okay. I missed you so much."

Very likely her family was the only normal one. Wayne held her tightly and leaned his head on hers, breathing in. "It's not okay, but I'll make it better." He promised her, kissing the top of her head. "Dinner and movies and back rubs from here on out, all right?"
Wayne wanted to look her in the eyes but couldn't pull himself away from her. He rubbed his cheek absently against her hair and sighed. He could've lost her. But she'd stayed there for him. "I'm so lucky to have you."

She laughed softly. "That sounds wonderful," she murmurs. She could stay here like this with Waybe forever. She was so glad she hadn't moved on. Her heart never really would've been able to let her anyway.
Finally she pulled away so she could look up at him. "You are," she says, giving him a stern look. She can't let him entirely off the hook after all. "So don't take me for granted this time!"

"I won't." Wayne promised, smiling down at her. He brought up a hand to gently stroke her cheek, gazing down at her happily. "I know how lucky I am. Not every man can be so lucky, to get a loyal girl who's smart and beautiful to boot."
He nodded back to the table he'd been at. "Come sit with me. We can talk, make plans... Whatever you want."

Lule's cheeks flush lightly at the compliments and she beams. She reaches out to take his hand and squeezes it lightly. "Yes, please. Just let me grab a coffee first." She gets on her tip toes to kiss his cheek, brushing her lips lightly over his skin. "Don't go anywhere without me."

At the kiss Wayne's cheeks color. He grinned at Lule and sat at his table. "I won't. I promise." He drank the coffee to have something to do, though he looked close to nodding off while he waited.

Lule smiled back. Her head's swimming and she felt giddy as she stepped up to the counter. Yes, Wayne had disappeared. But he was back now, and he told her he missed her. She couldn't wipe the grin off her face.
She ordered a peppermint latte and made her way back to Wayne, sipping on the drink. She sat across the table from him, reaching out to take one of his hands. "You look tired."

Wayne started when she touched him, his expression moentarily taking on a darker tone. He recovered quickly and smiled at her. "I am. We all just got back. Grabbed a phone as soon as I could. I'll probably do little but sleep when I get back home." He smiled at her again, eyes tracing over the details of her face. "And I'll dream of a pretty angel. Only the best of dreams."

"Oh Wayne," Lule laughs, the corner of her eyes crinkling. "When did you become such a charmer." Sighing happily, she looks at him, studying his face and her face softens. Each cut and bump on his features hurt her to look at. She squeezed his hand, rubbing her thumb over his knuckles gently.
"You should have slept first," she murmurs

"I don't have to charm. I'm telling the truth." Wayne gave alittle half smile at her. He looked down at their hands and looked peaceful. "Slept? I couldn't sleep. I'm home, and I had no idea how you were... I couldn't help but worry that something horrible had happened to you." He looked up at her and smiled. "But... You're fine. I can rest now easy."

"I'm probably the least likely one to end up in danger at HyTech," Lule reassured Wayne. "There aren't any stray magical creatures in my house, or magic at all really. And I do have Gideon. I suppose he'd try to protect me if you weren't around." She smiled, trying to make a joke of it. "I want you to go home and sleep, but before I let you go, we need to make plans for those dinner and movie dates you promised me."
