Calder couldn't help it, and gave a apologetic smile to his friend when he huffed and took the bootie back. Really, Calder did feel bad he had gone through all the work, but he wanted to be PRETTY! Everyone else got to wear shoes and for some reason collected a lot of them. He'd been wondering if he's somehow see the reason why, but he wasn't really getting it. He also didn't wear much orange. He'd much prefer the lime green Zar was offered.
When Christof took his hoof, he watched as the Igor demonstrated a sense of gentleness that he didn't expect, and slipped on the sandle, arranging it a few moments before it slipped into place snugly under his hoof before setting it back down in a 'see' manner. Calder looked at his hoof a moment, taking in the orange strap, but at least able to see his nice, polished hoof. He still wondered if it would be better to have a full cover over it like the shoes everyone else wore, but at least it wasn't covered in orange. He tapped it against the floor, testing it. "Hmm." He said, before placing his hands on the floor, rump up, and them getting up to stand.
"I guess it's not too bad." He muttered to himself, pressing the hoof on the ground. "Feels a little weird." Having anything against the bottom of his hoof did. He tapped it a few times and noticed the sound of his hoof was somewhat dulled. He'd warm up to it, and glanced at Barth and Christof. "I'll help test it out." He didn't want to be a brat after all.
He turned and made his way to the kitchen, ears twitching as he felt somewhat....lopsided.

Christof looked proud as he handed off the more complicated cloven-hoof model of the rubber "sandal", beaming at Zar before hurrying with the rest of the molds. There seemed to be one pair each so far. "Professor-picked-colors," He signed once his hands were free, "I-like-them." He hoped they liked them too as he motioned for the paperwork demon to lift a hoof if he wanted help getting it on.

Zar's fear wasn't so much for fashion but for how seriously he'd be taken if he flashed people a glimpse of green every single step he took, especially with how..lacking in colour the rest of him was. Even his ties took a great deal of mettle to wear each day, a small statement of rebellion against his father's regime against the frivolity of brightness. Still, he looked Calder over approvingly as he tried out the single shoe, the other boil certainly pulled it off well, even with the orange, his hooves seeming pleasantly suited to the invention in their simplicity.
He daintily held up his hoof for Christof as he seemed to wish to help him out donning it, still hearing the voice of his father in his head complaining about such AUDACIOUS colours but for the time being, willing to set aside all his reservations, more than happy that fellow students he still hardly knew were willing to put in this much effort for a request, and for free too, it beggared beleif.
"Thank you." he said in earnestness to the patchwork, even if he was still as yet unable to understand his signing, certainly feeling some of his sentiment.

If the fit was fine, the traction shouldn't be a problem. And they'd come out of the molds in good condition.
Barth watched Calder wobble to the kitchen, and settled warily into his largest and most comfortable chair. The chair, at least, felt unassailable. Zar wasn't going to sit next to him. And there weren't any surfaces to write on.
"He says one of the Professors picked the colors," Barth said. "He was probably right, in terms of fashion considerations, even if his taste levels- never mind. What do you think, Calder?"
''It's weird.'' He mumbled, standing in the kitchen and moving his shoed hoof on the tiles and noticing it would stop suddenly as if stuck. ''I don't know? What about you, Zar?''

As soon as the shoe was on, Zar got up to go join Calder, pausing as he did so at the unusual feeling of uneven height, unusued to having anything at all on his feet. It felt like he'd trod on gum, but as he lifted his hoof and gave it a testing little shake, it didn't come off. He took a few testing steps in a circle where he was, surprised by the traction it gave on even this sort of flooring, before he finally went over to the kitchen, daintily testing it with the point of his hoof as if it was a hot bath before testingly placing it flat and pushing his weight onto it, it had full traction, as if he had sticky hooves. He couldn't even hide the look of utter revelation and delight at this.
"It works!" He brought his other hoof over to the floor, noting as he did so how slippery it felt now he compared the two, opting to put his weight on the shod foot rather than the other. "I love it."
Zar didn't often get excited about things that weren't paper based, but this was one of them.

Christof looked utterly relieved as they seemed to have somehow, miraculously fit. They worked! He hurried with the rest of the molds, trimming up the mates to their test-pairs as quickly but efficiently as he could. That done, he set them on the couch, grunting before signing, "Will-cast-more. For-when-these-wear-out. Can-pick-colors," he added, a touch defensively.
