The stars danced and twinkled above them as the pair raced to the clearing. Neither spoke, but it was evident in the electric air around them that the clearing was to be their spot for all eternity.
Exhausted, she flopped down in a heap... or rather, swooned, as she would remember it later, next to Taquita. She lay there panting for a few moments- even a ghost can pant, if they aren't used to running- before breaking the silence by snapping twigs and leaves under her hooves as she rose. "This is the place," she said with a breathy whisper. She retrieved her candle and began to scrape away at the loamy dirt with a hooftip. When the hole was deep enough, she gently laid the extinguished candle in the hole, scooting it to the side so that there would be room for Taquita to place hers in as well.

Taquita laid her candle in the ground next to her best friend forever's. Now it was for real. Forever. Taquita would never be alone in this world. The love her father and mother never seemed to show her and the strained relationships with her siblings didn't matter. She had a true friend. And Taquita would always be loyal to that friendship. After all, they went though all the work to properly declare their friendship to the universe, it would be horrible to spoil it by breaking of that friendship before the end of time. So uncouth.
She filled the hole back up with dirt, and padded it down tightly. Her hooves were dusty, and in general, she looked like a hot mess after all that running.
Looking into Ender's eyes yet again, she wished she had the right words to say, but they already read their poem. Maybe a line from a movie? Would, "I see you" be inappropriate to say to someone who was party translucent? And she was fairly sure that "you complete me" might be too forward, even though it was true. And "I'm in lesbians with you" came to mind, but again too accurate and probably would not sound as good as when she heard TACO say it.
And so she stood there with her moth gaping until finally she spit something out, "I will never die." Why did that have to be the first thing to come to mind? She could have kicked herself. Really? It made best friends forever sound like a really scary prospect.

Solemnly, Ender slowly nodded. The little ghost phony knew nothing about her own mortality, although she was something of an expert on the subject in general. But she knew that she and Taquita were basically soul-bound now, and nothing, no force of nature or supernature, could come between them.
"Then I shan't either, for if you won't die, it would be disloyal of me to abandon you. And it is not within me to be capable of such a task, for I do believe that it would destroy my soul to break this bond of loyalty." She took the necessary lean forward and placed a hoof around the other filly's neck, drawing her in and laying her own head on Taquita's shoulder. "I believe now we say 'Best Friends Forever!', do we not?"

Taquita mimicked Ender's gesture, and rested her head on her. Now, no one could ever tear apart their loyalty to each other.
She took a deep breath, "3... 2.. 1... Best Friends Forever!" Taquita knew that their scared declaration would be good for all time. It felt comforting to know that after all this effort, this was a success.
"Now, for truly and always, we will be best friends. I can't think of a better filly to spend forever with than you."
