Erelus forked off right and laid a hand on the Gritted Teeth egg. The nervousness was overpowering from the start. He tried to send out calming thoughts, but got confusion in return. It seemed nice enough, but the constant nerves.... Erelus did his best to try and soothe the egg before escaping off.
The farthest to the right was a small black egg, the Deceptively Delicate egg. He touched it with the same care as all the others and was given quite the feeling of anger from it. He put his hand to the egg a bit firmer, trying to see if he could calm the dragonet with some nice soothing thoughts. Perhaps at his firm touch the dragonet's rage was tempered. This was a hard working dragon, wasn't it? Had something to prove? "It's all right to be small, you know?" Well, the dragonet didn't like that. Erelus pulled his hand back quickly and headed back to the central grouping.
Erelus paused for a moment back at the cener grouping, though his eyes were off towards the few eggs at the back. Couldn't miss them... His hand fell to the Swirling Depths egg while he was distracted. The dragonet inside the egg wasn't distracted, it seemed frightened! His attention was pulled away from the eggs at the back to focus on this one, sending out his most soothing thoughts and promises of warmth and happy. No matter how much he sent out the dragonet didn't seem to be warming to him. Just very shy and very scared. Erelus pouted a bit and moved on.
After the scared dragon, the Dancing egg was a relief. All the things of an amusing dragon seemed to leap out at him. Relaxed and cheerful feeling, and the dragonet seemed to feel like he could take on the world. Erelus grinned and caressed the shell, calming himself and hoping to make a good impression on the dragonet within.
Erelus drifted to the back and spent time with both of the eggs. Both the Silent and Veiled eggs were hard to pick up anything from. The silent egg felt dead to him, and the Veiled egg felt mostly there. He spent his time with them, of course, and tried to send out the very best feelings. He couldn't help but feel his efforts were in vain, however.

The day had finally arrived and Morgaine was at her first touching. After listening to the Candidate Master's words she waited her turn to touch the eggs. She was both excited and terrified as she approached the eggs, her mind semi-distracted by the feeling of sand touching her feet. Witha small cringe she pushed that thought to the back of her mind and went to touch the first egg. Her hand hovered over the Solid-As-A-Rock Egg for a few seconds. That shell, it just didn't look clean to her. After a few moments of indecision she used the hem of her robe to 'clean' a spot on the egg before laying her hand on it. The hard shell was a shock to her, and after a moment she could sense the politeness coming from the egg. With a smile she took in it's friendly manner and moved to the next egg.
After repeating the same thing she had done on the first egg, cleaning it with the hem of her robe before actually touching it, Morgaine then came to the small Deceptively Delicate Egg. An almost immediate sense of anger regarding it's weak look made Morgaine gasp a bit. Perhaps the dragon inside wasn't weak after all, in fact now she believed quite the opposite and there was a hint of determination coming from the dragon inside.
Next she touched the Critically Condescending Egg. The condescending feeling she got made her pull her hand away for a moment before placing it back on the egg. Well didn't this one have a bit of an attitude. After a moment she pulled her hand away once more. Who knew what the other eggs had in store for her. The Swirling Depths Egg was next, there was a long pause before she felt anything. Shy and perhaps a bit nervous of the situation, Morgaine sympathized with the dragon. Not everyone was born to be accepting of others presences or their contact either, she knew this quite well.
The Jitterbug Egg had her a little bit on edge. The way the egg kept moving around, it made touching it a bit more difficult. Everytime her hand got close it would shake this way and that. Finally she managed to make contact with it's shell. Similar to the previous egg she touches there was hesitation from the dragon after she touched the egg. Strange how such an active egg was such a quiet and hesitant dragon. Once she was done with this one she moved to the Sturdy Prankster Egg. A sense of humor as well as a hint that it would be a hard worker. Such an interesting combination, or perhaps she was being joked with, honestly it was hard to tell.

Back to the pack, and Erelus found another egg. The Jitterbug egg certianly was interesting, wasn't it? It was by far the most lively egg in the clutch. At first touch it seemed nervous but them easily warmed up to him. It reminded him a bit of younger siblings. Shy at first, then full of energy. He enjoyed his time spent with this egg, giving it a fond pat before moving on.
Oh dear! Erelus snickered a bit and patted the shell of the Topsy-Turvy egg. Uprooted by it's neighbors, huh? He caressed the shell and and tried to project polite thoughts towards the dragonet. He didn't think he reached the upset creature, but tried anyway. Poor thing!
Up next was the Streaked Sleeper egg. It seemed pretty placid, somewhat tired perhaps? Little dragon, your life hadn't started yet! It wasn't time to be sleepy! He caressed it's shell for a goodly amount of time but got no serious reactions from it. He moved on to the last egg, the one on the left.
Last but not least was a lovely large egg, the Sturdy Prankster. Erelus patted it much like he had the others, tipping his head to one side. A smirk formed on his face as he 'listened' to the dragonet within. Huh. Kind of funny, weren't you? Seemed like a hard worker, but did you like the good things in life, too? A bit like himself! He looked forward to seeing you hatch, dragonet!
His business on the sands done, Erelus bowed again to the queen and excused himself.

Seyari wasn't exactly the most punctual Candidate. But at least he was there within the allotted time, and in his Whites. He bowed quietly to the Queen and the Weyrwoman, as well as the Weyrleader and his dragon, taking a bit more time to pay his utmost respect. After he was done with that, he looked over the choices of eggs in front of him, and made his selection almost immediately. Bright eggs, dull ones, rocking ones, quiet ones... He headed toward the front, not exactly front, but toward it, and stopped in front of an egg.
His fingers trembled, as he reached out to touch the Startling Green egg, brushing down the shell, and marveling at the brightness of the color, and very vibrancy. He expected that same 'feeling' when he mentally brushed against the dragonet inside the egg... but was a little concerned when he felt what seemed to be a sleeping mind. Sleeping, or too preoccupied thinking? Regardless of whether or not there would be an answer, he let a thought slip out anyway. Are you dreaming in there? Or are you just hard at thought? You're so young... what could a dragonet not even out of the egg have to think about? He left that thought echoing slightly as he left the green egg, and headed down more toward the front.
The egg he chose next almost shocked him with how quickly the occupant responded. It wasn't so much as a 'Yay! You're here!', more of an 'Oh! Look, you're cool!' sort of feeling. Nothing in those exact words, but the feeling was there. Jokingly, Seyari sent out a similar thought to the 'Is My Middle Name' egg. I look forward to seeing who you are. Maybe you'll find life out here, a little more challenging than life in there. Keep your patience, though. There are times -I- wish I could go back into MY mom. With that, he slowly moved away from that, and headed toward the back, stopping at one of the smaller, quieter eggs.
The Silent Egg had caught his attention on his way to the back, and he made his way toward it, finally reaching it, and stretching out a hand to lay on the sandy-colored surface. The impression he received from the egg was extremely weak, and not really... 'there', per say. But it was more like Seyari KNEW something was in there. Not really a response, just a feeling that there was, indeed, a dragonet in there. He sent out a worried, albiet soothing little thought. Maybe the dragonet was sick.... That would be terrible. Well, whenever he was sick, he enjoyed being sung to, so he figured the dragonet would like the same. He'd take care of that on his way back, but first... Take heart, little dragonling... I'll be back in a moment. I'll sing to you...
He took his time leaving that egg, but did make his way, finally to the last egg he planned to touch - the Dancing Egg just called to him, with a feeling of confidence and bubbly happiness. He felt like moving his feet to the sound of an irresistible beat by just brushing the egg with his fingers! As thanks for the wonderful mood-lifter, he sent in a though to the dragonet inside. Soon! Soon, you'll be able to dance and play! Soon!
With that thought, he circled back around, and walked to the Silent Egg again, starting to sing softly in his mind, attempting to 'project' it to the dragonet. It was just a song he'd made up to sing in his head in the odd hours, but it comforted him, and he figured it might do the same with the poor occupant of the egg.
When the winds blow cold, Think not of the rain, Think not of the snow, And not of the pain,
But think of the warmth, Held closely inside, Held dear to your heart, No actions to hide,
The sun will soon rise, At the end of the storm, So think all the thoughts, That will keep yourself warm...
And because this was a dragonet, he added a verse he'd often thought of, but never actually added before.
And soon you will see, The sands they will sing, And your life will take flight, On your strong dragon wing.
He smiled to himself as he finished the song, and gave the egg one last caress before he pulled away, and sighed, starting to head back to the other Candidates... most of which he hadn't even met yet.

As Salin was looking around at the eggs, wondering which to approach next, a tiny black egg a bit off to one side caught her eye. Curious, she went over and placed her hands on the Deceptively Delicate Egg. Why, this shell seemed somehow thinner than the others she'd felt. Would it protect the dragonet until...she jerked her head back (though her hands stayed firmly in place) at a sudden sharp surge of anger from the little one inside. It knew in no uncertain terms that it would be just fine, she could tell! Well, good for you, Salin though. You may be little, but it seems like you've got a big personality. And little can be powerful too, like a coiled spring that drives heavy machinery. As she sat there for a time the anger receded, and she could feel a sort of...drive to the little one. An intention to go do things. Coiled up and waiting to go, a bit like the spring she'd mentioned, she thought with a smile. She couldn't take too long with any one egg, so she patted the egg once and turned from it.
She nex noticed two eggs that seemed to be tucked behind all the others. She headed over to the two and placed her hands on the larger of the pair, the Silent Egg. She waited a long moment, then a moment more. Nothing. Maybe a faint hint of a presence, but that was all. Was it a dud? She frowned in concentration and stroked the shell trying to coax a reaction from the beast that was (should be?) inside. But she still got no reaction. Finally she just turned away to the other egg.
The Veiled Egg was smaller than its nearest sibling, and when Salin put her hand to it, she was reminded of the last egg she'd touched. There was little reaction to this egg too, although at least she felt some sign of life in it. She wondered what was up with these eggs that had so little to "say" to visitors. Or was it just to her? She didn't want to ask the other Candidates if they'd had similar reactions. She stayed with the egg for a bit more, hoping to get some further feel from it. When she didn't, she moved on.
One of the next-nearest to her was the Proud but Polite Egg, she she walked over to put a hand to it. This was a more positive reaction; while not exactly a warm feel, it was quite polite and seemed pleased to have a visitor. She smiled at the egg and tried to send a pleased greeting of her own. Pleased was certainly easy to feel, after the somewhat disappointing reactions from the last two eggs. Then she turned away to continue her tour of the eggs.

Shedrawn was one of the last of the group on the sands. He listened to the candidate master and bowed to the Queen and her Weyrwoman as well as the winning bronze and his rider, before he approached the clutch. Another fine day for a touching.
Shedrawn started with the Veiled Egg. He brushed a palm across the shell but didn't feel much radiating from the egg. He felt that there was something in there but it wasn't a very social something. Ahh well you will get your chance whether you like it or not young one. I wish you luck on hatching day.
He walked with long strides over to the 'My Middle Name Egg'. He reeled as he touched the shell. So much energy in one little round package. Shedrawn couldn't help but grin at the egg, it reminded him of his little bronze all cocky energy and not enough room to fly. Wow this was going to be a fun hatching the moment the little dragonet cracked its shell. He stayed a little longer with this egg than the other as this one acknowledged his presence in a friendly upbeat manner. He enjoyed its presence but soon it was time to move on and he stepped away.
The next egg he went to was medium in size and greeted him with lazy self assurance. This was a happy egg who enjoyed itself immensely. Shedrawn found that admirable, he was not the constantly working type he enjoyed some peace too. Not that it would be overly peaceful with you around he thought. He grinned as he patted the egg. Ohh this Dancing Egg was gonna be trouble.
The next egg was brown and green and definitely more mellow then the last egg. The Streaked Sleeper greeted him with near silence. He moved on, unwilling to disturb the sleepy beastie. Hopefully it would wake for someone.
He gave the Topsy Turvy Egg an odd look as he examined its position. He rubbed the shell and was ignored, again. He hoped this wasn't turning into a trend then he noticed that the dragonet was moving around, he could feel vibrations in the shell. Hmm your only trying to right yourself, perhaps when you finally roll over you will remember the candidates. Shedrawn wandered to the next egg.
The Gritted Teeth Egg seemed quiet and Shedrawn stayed a while to reasure the egg. He was then greeted again with a little more confidence there was still some anxiety which he puzzled over. Alas he could do nothing to reasure it more and so he went on.
The Silent Egg seemed to be a ghost of a dragon. There seemed to be something there but he could not place or grab anything. Odd, he thought. He moved on with his brow furrowed in a small frown.
The Startling Green Egg caught his eye next and he meandered over to it throught the crowd of candidates. Alas another egg who seemed rather self absorbed, maybe thinking deep thoughts. Shedrawn had become slightly fed up with this large batch of sleeper and he paused sending some thoughts at the egg. No response? Oh well at least he had tried.
Shedrawn pressed a palm against the Proud but Polite Egg and was surprised that there was a presence in this one... a coherent presence at that. He was quite delighted and shared pleasantries with the dragon inside. The visit improved his mood and he patted the shell affectionately. He made a note to revisit this one on his way out. Perhaps a few others too.
The next egg confused him slightly, it seemed to enjoy the stability of work but also appreciated humor. Huh, this dragonet had a good head on its shoulders. It seemed well balanced in its thinking, as well as a little devious. He had a feeling that this little one would hide the oiling cloth if his chosen's concentration lacked for but a moment. Shedrawn grinned at the kindred spirit and stepped away from the Sturdy Prankster.
The Jitterbug egg reacted with a little hesitancy at first but then it seemed to implore him to be happy as well. Shedrawn looked at the imprints in the sand and thought, you don't seem to realize you are wriggling all over the place, that is interesting. He rubbed the shell a bit. I bet you are gonna pop right out come hatching.

The next egg had a beautiful shell but the Swirling Depths Egg seemed hesitant to greet him. He tried for a time to convince it to emerge but not long enough so he moved to the next egg.
The Critically Condescending Egg took him a back a bit. What a personality. Shedrawn smirked a bit at the slightly snooty attitude. Despite the eggs motled appearance and its mocking attitude, Shedrawn decided that he kinda liked this egg. However the hatchling may not be so likable once it hatched and could then more thoroughly mock candidates. The next egg the Desceptively Delicate one, he thought was quite beautiful. He stroked the shell and wondered if its fine frame would hold its occupant long enough for it to hatch with the other. A thread of firey anger flared into his conscience and he tried to assure the egg that its shell had nothing to do with the hatchlings character. He gave a descisive nod at the thought and carefully rose to meet the next and last egg.
The last egg was rough and grey but was perfectly polite. The Solid As a Rock Egg reminded him of the other dragon the Proud but Polite egg. This one however seemed to be more focused on what the candidate was feeling and how he/she seemed to be doing. Shedrawn fondly patted the egg it also reminded him of some of the elders at the Harper hall, all smiles and small talk, gentle folk.
On his way out Shedrawn patted a few of the eggs that had grabbed his attention and imagination. A successful touching.
