Haha Kung Fu Sucks??

I don't agree. I believe that some flowery forms of Kung Fu seem impractical, but not all Kung Fu sucks. One mentionable style of Kung Fu that definitely does NOT suck is Wing Chun. Built upon simplicity, it is the mother to Jeet Kune Do, yet another style of Kung Fu that does NOT suck. As well as San Shou, which is practical Shaolin Boxing.... another form of non-sucking Kung Fu. I would go to say all Kung Fu sucks, as it has been carefully implied here. smile

San Soo under San Da rules, as I've stated, makes Muay Thai look like cuddling.

I agree, Wing Chun seems applicable and even evil when compared to other martial arts, fist sparring with a skilled Wing Chun practitioner can and will get you bashed a few times.
But mind you I wouldn't be quick enough to see all those openings, i'll stick with my straight punches and crappy kicks :p.

Totally agree.

And Jass I'll have to check out that San Soo style. I heard of it but never really seen it in action.

Eh, Muay Thai is never to be disregarded, especially if mixed with BJJ in a NHB fight. I don't care what martial art you do, San Soo or not, you better stay on your toes.

I have a great deal of faith in Kung Fu.

I recently started taking Kung Fu classes which offer a wide variety of styles, which I will post here:

Hung Sing Choy Lee Fut

This eclectic style combines features of both Shaolin kung fu traditions. The hand techniques of two southern masters, Choy and Lee, were combined with the kicking expertise of a northern Shaolin Buddha or "fut". The explosive combination was then employed against the Shaolin temples' Manchu defilers. As a true combat art, Choy Lee Fut features many weapon forms; frequently, this style utilizes the staff or broadsword.

This is what I spend most of my training time on.

Wing Chun

Developed by a nun in the southern Shaolin Temple, Wing Chun was developed for fighting in close quarters where footing is unsure. Characterized by an upright stance and aggressive linear attacks. Wing Chun employs sophisticated "sticky hand" techniques to control and manipulate an opponent. Kicks are mostly low and are used to jam incoming kicks or to weaken the opponent's foundation. When integrated, hand and leg techniques form a balanced, almost modular system that is brilliant in design but somewhat unspectacular in appearance.

This is quite an excellent style. Consider yourself lucky if your school has a genuine teak wood dummy. They are quite rare.

Northern Shaolin Lohan

The Northern style originated approximately 1000 years ago in the Northern Saholin Temple of Honan province. It is a hard style originally employed by the religious order charged with disciplining erring monks. Powerful long range hand strikes and leaping kicks were developed to take advantage of the hard open terrain and the relatively large stature of the northern chinese natives. The stylish forms, accompanied by characteristic vocalizations, are elegant, complicated, and most impressive.

This is a decent style. You can learn a lot from it, but it's not the best discipline to whip out in a bar fight.

Wong Tai Chi

More and more people are taking Tai Chi lessons and discovering the numerous benefits it offers for both the mind and body.
Tai Chi improves blood circulation and strengthens the skin and muscles.

Through deep breathing exercises, Tai Chi helps develop the lungs and tones up the heart.

Enhances clear thinking, refreshes the spirit, induces stable temperament, and increases the vital force.

While technically not a fighting art, I thought it would be appropriate to post here.

Iron Palm

Iron Palm training is a means of strengthening and conditioning the hand so that it may be used open and relaxed to deliver devastating strikes. Only recently have instructors begun to offer to teach these skills publicly.

This is what attracted me to and keeps me at my school. Iron bone is much like the shin hardening process that kickboxers go through, only much more refined and effective. My instructor describes it as building up your bones like a bodybuilder builds up muscle. Scary stuff.
