"I don't know if I want to practice quite that much," she admitted, still amused. "I've seen people get their ears twisted when they get in trouble. It doesn't look very nice."

Oh. Oh. "Oh. Well. No, I know. Maybe there'll never be a dragon for me, but I won't know until I go stand out there, will I? Besides." Another nose crinkle. "I haven't decided what I'll do, elsewise."

"It's not very nice." M'cel admitted, grinning. "I was an ornrey kid. But, we grow into good riders."

"It is why you're Mine."

M'cel smiled to himself. "Well, the world is yours to take. What else interests you? Running'd be a good way to get out your energy and you look like you'd be fast."

"She would make a good rider. I can tell."

"Though you have tairoth's support."

"The ones who get in trouble, you mean?" She drank while she thought about that. "Maybe I could practice a little more." Oh, she was going to get in so much trouble if she let this rider tell her exactly what to do.

"Tai--oh." He'd named his dragon before, she remembered. "He can tell from ...wherever hs is? We haven't even met."

She very likely would. M'cel snickered at her. "How do you know she'd be a good rider?

"Because she seems like you, and you're Mine." Was Tairoth's innocent reply. M'cel smiled softly.

"He says you're like me, and he's just a little more than biased."

She was like him. More fuel for her curiosity. She took her hands off her mug and leaned her elbows on the table. "I guess it's not a bad thing, having a dragon on your side." She paused, then asked, "Do you think I'm like you, too?"

"well, you're rather ornrey. So am I." M'cel crinkled his nose at her again. "And you're plesant and nice. So I can see why Tairoth thinks so..."

He grinned again as he looked her over. "And you're a pretty girl, too. We have similar hair...." He trailed off as he really looked at her. Huh. Well... "How old are you?"

"I just like to have fun," she argued, then amended, "...sometimes when I ought to be paying attention to something else, I guess. I don't know if that counts as ornery." Except that she knew it did. Without question.

The more he noticed, the higher her eyebrows climbed. Was that hope in her eyes? Anticipation? Expectation. "You do the nose thing, too." She pointed at her own nose as she wrinkled it. "People tease me about that all the time."

And, and... "I'm sixteen."

"Welcome to my life. I've always felt like that." M'cel admitted. "I have to reign Tairoth in, though. It's taught me not to be so flippant with my time." He tried to give her a reassuring smile. At the mention of the 'nose thing', he crinkled his nose again. "I always have..."

And with her turns? Shards, he didn't have to do the math. This girl was very likely his. "Well, there's a pretty good chance you're mine, then." He said fairly casually. He'd always known there was a possiblity a few of the weyrbrats were his.

Finally. Someone who understood what it was like to live in her skin. Or so he claimed, anyway. Obviously she had to take him at his word, but she usually did, come to that, so it wasn't all that much of a stretch. "Your dragon's like you? Mostly like you," she amended, since she hadn't heard many stories of dragons and riders being exactly alike.

She laughed at the nose wrinkle. "And did you get made fun of too?" Not that she minded all that much. There were worse things to be teased about. Like freckles...

And then, for one second, she went completely still. Wide eyed, stunned into silence. Just for a second, because in the next, she was up and off the bench and around the table and flinging her arms around his neck enthusiastically.

The usually witty Wingrider was stunned into silence at the hug. He returned it after a moment, gently patting her back. "Glad the idea doesn't turn your stomach, little one." He said fondly. Heh, she was a cute kid, wasn't she?

He'd never been adverse to the idea of children. Not that he knew much about them, but he didn't dislike them. He'd always been somewhat certian that any that might be his would dislike him. M'cel, a mere blackrider. But... Well. If she didn't mind that he was likely her sire, then he couldn't dislike that either.

"Oh, I got made fun of a fair bit. But I never let it get me down. And once I got my Tairoth... Other people didn't matter as much."
